Next is a proclamation recognizing Dr. Lilliam Lopez and again Commissioner John. All right, again, thank you so much, Mr. Mayor. We're honoring another champion in our community. She is over the Hispanic Chamber of Commerce and has been able to yield so much support to the Latino community and Latino business owners. So we're gonna call President Lopez up. Which we are proud member of the Chamber as well. All right. Whereas Dr. Lopez is the President and CEO of the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce established in 1994, which under her leadership has become one of the most influential chambers in the US, representing over 160, 160,000, 1,650 members fostering business growth through membership and support. Whereas, Lopez also founded the SFL, HCC Foundation in 1996, providing over $1 million in scholarships to the minority high school students pursuing careers in business and hospitality while empowering youth through the education enrichment fellowship program. And... Whereas... Ms. Lopez... It's Dr. Lopez. President Lopez. Oh, President Lopez. La presidencia Lopez. It was a former executive director of the Spanish-American League Against Discrimination Salad and a motivational speaker who has been invited to speak at numerous prestigious events, reflecting her commitment to social progress and academic empowerment. And I'm going to ask the state of the state to reflect on the community of the state. And I'm going to ask the state of the state to reflect on the state of the state of the state. And I'm going to ask the state of the state to reflect on the state of the state of South Florida. And, yeah. Whereas through initiatives like the helping our minority children program and the FFL HCC's international outreach efforts, Lopez has championed both local and global community engagement, fostering connections with leaders from Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. And... Last one. Okay. Whereas President Lopez's outstanding contributions have been recognized with multiple awards, including the 2024 Stronger Together award, the 2020 The American Dream Award and a Doctor of Humane Letters from St. Thomas University. Now, therefore, we, the Mayor and Commission of the City of North Miami Beach, Florida, do hereby recognize William M. Lopez for her exceptional leadership dedication to community service and impactful contributions to South Florida on this 15th day of October, 2024, congratulations. Next slide. Next slide. Thank you. Thank you, Mayor, commissioners, particularly commissioner Danila Jean. She's been a friend since we met, basically via internet and just emails. And we saw each other at the White House. And it's a great job that you're doing in all of you and I like the way that you all read a paragraph and you know what, that's very inclusive. It makes it very nice so I like that idea. So thank you also much and I really really appreciate it means the world to me to be here today before all of you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. That's a husband. He's late by the way. He's so nice. He's so nice. He's late. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm going to say thank you very much for your time. Thank you very much. Alicia Vallejo on the last day of his Hispanic Heritage Month. And many of you know Alicia from a lot of the beautiful artwork that she has done. Not just at our beautiful library, but throughout the city at one of our parks as well. And you will get to know her even more because she has at the library, she did the curshading and through the CRA, now we will have more curshading done throughout the city. And let me do this before. She has someone coming tomorrow to the library to present a check to her for one medium tree and I'm presenting a check to you for one medium tree. So, of my money, not my contingency. So, whereas Alicia Maria Vallejo, a professional anthropologist and accomplished artist finds communion with the environment through her art, using her talents to explore and express the connections between people and nature and. Whereas Alicia Maria, a very old and international artist born in Columbia, has exhibited works in esteemed venues such as New York, Miami Beach, Monaco, Belgium, France, China, Columbia, Peru, and notably at the Leverne, Leverne, Louvre Museum in Paris in 2014, and here in North Miami Beach, making a milestone in her career. And... Should be a more important leap in North Bend. Yeah. Because this is the city. I included it. Happy. You know, I have been and will continue to advocate for you to paint the mural behind our amphitheater. We've been talking about that for years and I brought that up. So when we talk about branding, this should be our go-to person to brand our city. All right, so whereas Alicia Maria Vallejo is driven by community connections and altruism, using her art to organize and promote fundraising events, including her work with the Savelarian Humanitarian Foundation in 2015, and the Un Solo Corazón Pintado por Ecuador, initiative in 2016, the Ontario Foundation in 2015 and the Un Solo Corazon pintado por Ecuador, initiative in 2016 following the earthquake in Ecuador. And. Thank you. Where are we? Whereas Alicia Maria's art has been celebrated in South Florida, recognized by the City of North Miami as Hispanic Artist Award, and also by the City of Coral Gables for her participation in Venus and the Gables, exhibit where she displayed an eight foot warning poll. And whereas most people don't know that she does it for no cost, no step what she gives North Miami Beach. Whereas Alicia Maria Balejo applies her anthropical background to foster culture connections, including her collaboration with the Waiu community in Columbia to create the largest art installation at Tawala, Waiya, Fest, where more than 30 trees were dorn with indigenous fabrics and ancestral patterns, creating a spectacular display at Park 93 in Bogota, Columbia, in November, 2022. And... Whereas Alicia Maria Vallejo has a passion for education and sharing her artistic knowledge, serving as a North Miami Beach libraries, resident artists, and leading programs sponsored by the Children's Trust. She has instructed children's, adults, and seniors, transforming the Senator Gwen Margolis Ampitheater into a vibrant canvas of post-pandemic youth interaction, and recently installed the knitting and painting community project aimed at fostering well-being and building community with seniors throughout summer library program and last trip. Whereas Alicia Maria's Arden Riches is a city in North May beach with her works featured at various locations including the Forest of Joy, Triptych at Hazel Fizino Park, and the Forest of Dreams and Butterfly Murals that adorn the main entrance of the Lave Allen Memorial Library. Now therefore, we, the Mayor and Commission of the City and North Mammy Beach, Florida, do hereby proclaim October 15th, 2024, this final day of Hispanic Heritage Month as Alicia Maria Vallejo, Hispanic Heritage artist in the city in North Miami Beach. Oh, I'm so excited. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. And I just want to say that the crochet, we met what, like three years ago, about three crochet we met what like three years ago About three me and her met three years ago to get this started and Finally and thank you to the manager for proving it and thank you to the CRA now for sponsoring the the next half the next Not half the next quarter the next exhibit quarter I want to say quarter because we're just going to keep and doing more and more and more and more. Let me just say one thing. I just want you to know that when you see that art, her idea, her skills, but she takes our residents and teaches them for free how to make those squares. So when you see them all over the trees and all over where you drive the streets, know that that's your neighbor that put it together. Thankfully for this beautiful woman that gives her time to North Miami Beach. Oh, okay, thank you, thank you so much. My daughter is on the phone. I have my mother and my sister here. The rest of my family is not here, but I have my mom and my sister here. So my sister is worrying one of my jackets too. Well, thank you so much, Mayor, commissioners. Thank you for your support. Thank you, Edania, because you've been the person that opened me the doors of the city. I feel so grateful because I'm part of this city and I'm dreaming to put the North Miami Beach City that everybody can say this is the city that supports the community art. And the CRA is supporting one of my biggest dreams, but not the biggers, because every time it's going to be bigger and bigger and bigger. So thank you, City Manager, for giving the permission. When I met you, I said, well, I need your help. And I'm always asking for help because I'm always dreaming to make this city. Oh my god, everybody has to say the Northern Miami Beach is the city that always help the residents and their all-arties because we are all-arties. So thank you for believing me and I'm supporting. I'm so grateful. And I just want to say that I was at the young Haitian professionals Gala a few weeks ago and I was talking to Pedro Cassant and his beautiful, beautiful wife. And she was telling me how her children love to go to the North. They don't live in North Miami Beach, but how their children love to go to the North Miami Beach Library and how they love the crochet and how they love to touch it. And I said, yeah, but we need money to do this. And he is the one who's gonna be coming tomorrow to the library to give money for a medium tree. So thank you so much to Pedro. You're dancing, he's not watching this. He couldn't be here today because he had another meeting. He wanted to present it to you tonight. So thank you. Well, I want to invite you. I need your support now to crochet together. So everybody's welcome to do this project a reality. Please, I don't know, I have to talk with the day. I want to do the day that we're gonna start crocheting at the North Miami Beach Library. Let's start doing together. Yes, I want to see you, I want to see you mayor, city manager, all of you crocheted it with me, okay? Yes, I have yours. I have a big bag of yarn. Please, let's take a picture. Are you ready? Yes, yes. Great. Even. One, two, three. Thank you so much. for a nice evening. Right? One, two, three. Thank you so much. And I want to say, I didn't even ask Pedro for money. I wasn't even thinking of asking him. Just when I said no, we need money, he's like no, no, no. My kids love it. I want to do it. So it just, it was something that just came natural. So anybody out there that wants to do it naturally also, we're happy to do anything to help Alicia and her cause. Thank you. I'm so excited. I'm so excited. Thank you. I'm so excited. Thank you. Thank you. I'm so excited. I'm doing a good job. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you so much. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Oh, I have one more thing to add to this. Before we continue, also, the crochet exhibit was actually featured on Minervision. So that was an amazing the fact that we were featured the exhibit was featured on a major network so that was amazing accomplishment for the city. Also when you go in the library and you see the statue, she's holding the book from the famous play, that was her work that's inside the plastic. We put it inside so the kids couldn't destroy it, but she did it and donated it to North Miami Beach. And let's continue with the library. Let's call up the Friends of the library that are really. It's amazing that you do this for us. So thank you and Susan, you worked at the library. And then you continue to stay with friends. I did. And now we have a new generation. And guess we do. Yes, we do. And we're so grateful here in the city of North Main Beach. So whereas the NNB library friends, because this is the week of, or next week is, is what is it? The national friends. National friends are the library week. So this is why we're giving them the proclamation today. Whereas the North Miami Beach Library Friends support the mission, vision, and values of the North Miami Beach Discovery Library and its commitment to offering excellent programming for the benefit of our community. And whereas, Dania should be up here too, because without Adania, I don't I don't I'm not sure these these women would have a friendship of a library. Whereas in North Miami Beach library friends actively raises funds, sponsors events collaborate on grant opportunities and volunteer their time enabling the award-winning North Miami Beach Discovery Library to enhance its services from good to great, providing essential support for children's programming, summer reading camps, and special events throughout the year. here and. And whereas the library friends, the NMB library friends, have been an integral part of our community since the libraries inception in 1961. Working alongside the North Miami Library Foundation to support the Laf Allen Memorial Library, which serves the residents of the city of North Miami Beach. And? Whereas the dedication of the NNB Library friends highlights the pivotal role that the library plays as a cornerstone of our community, exemplifying how volunteerism can lead to greater civic engagement and the betterment of society. Whereas the NMB library friends recognize the critical importance of well-funding libraries and continue to advocate for the Lafayette Allen Memorial Library, also known as NMB Discovery Library. Ensuring it receives the resources needed to provide a wide array of services for all ages, including access to literary programs, creative writing, entrepreneurship, electronic materials, culture arts, technical, knowledge-only, advanced resources, and use service. Now therefore we, the mayor and commission of the city of North Miami Beach, Florida, to here by proclaim October 20th to 26th, 2024's Friends of the Library week in the city of North Miami Beach and encourage everyone to support the NNB Library friends in encourage everyone to support the NMB library friends in their efforts to further enhance our NMB discovery library. So thank you so much for this honor and for recognizing national friends of the library week. It is so good to know that the mayor and commission support our cause and a special thanks to Commissioner Smuggler for her generous donation to the friends. I've been a patron of the library since I moved here in 1988. Retirement has allowed me to become an involved resident and being part of Friends of the Library has given me the tools to raise auxiliary funds for the library programs advocate for adequate funding in the city budget as well as advocate for continued support of the library as a unique resource and cultural center for North Miami Beach residents. I'd also like to extend a special thanks to Dr. Adenia Hernandez for providing outstanding forward-thinking leadership and for making our library a noteworthy institution. I also invite everybody here to join friends of the library. When you go visit our library, it's easy, there's a sign there, and you can join. I joined. Yes. Yes, you did. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you for your picture. Oh, OK. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. I'm going to have to go. Okay. Thank you. You can start first if you want. It's both of us. Oh. Florida, is there here someone for Florida climate week? No, so. Florida is there here for someone for Florida Climate Week? No, so. We'll just do a private presentation. OK. To the next one. Elizabeth and Vanessa. Mm-hmm. So, that's the final two. OK, master. Yeah. Hi. So it's domestic violence awareness month and together North Miami and North Miami Beach, the Commissioner of Status of Women, we were going to be showing a movie last week but unfortunately because of bad weather it had to be postponed I'd like to say okay right so however we were going to present this at the showing and what better than to have Elizabeth here from actually you're an advocate for Miami-Dade County. Yes, I staff the Miami-Dade County Domestic Violence Oversight Board. Perfect. And Vanessa Joseph the Clerk of North Miami who reached out to me and the commission of status woman. So thank you. And beautiful. So. But our clerk is pretty too. Yes. Whereas domestic violence remains a critical issue that affects individuals across every community regardless of their age, gender, economic background, race, religion, or nationality with far-freeting consequences and... Whereas, the repercussions of domestic violence extend beyond the immediate victim. Impacting families contributing to homelessness and exacerbating physical and mental health challenges within our community and. All right, thanks. And whereas the City of North Miami Beach stands united and its commitment to supporting victims and survivors of domestic violence through initiatives focused on prevention, education, and providing essential services and. Whereas the City of North Miami Beach Commission on the status of women plays a pivotal role in advocating for survivors and providing necessary resources and fostering greater awareness of the issue within our city. And whereas the months of October, the observed nationally as domestic violence awareness month, a time to recognize and support victims and survivors while emphasizing the importance of preventing domestic and dating violence and... Whereas the tireless efforts of advocates, service providers, law enforcement and community members are crucial in creating safe environments, offering hope and ensuring healing for all those affected by domestic violence. Now therefore, we the Mayor and Commission of the City of North Miami Beach, Florida, to hereby declare October 2024 as the domestic violence awareness month. In observance, we are all citizens of North Miami Beach to stand with us in raising awareness, supporting survivors, and working together to end domestic violence in our city and beyond. Applause I want to say something. I want to thank the city commissioner Smuggler for all her generous support in the event that we were planning. We hope to come back. And I want to specifically thank Mr. Capron with the theater and Renee Darden, your victim advocate in the police department. department, they were nothing but courteous, helpful, responsive, and we are very appreciative of our new partnership with you. As Alicia said, let's do it together. Let's raise awareness together. There are so many links and possibilities that we can confront and combat domestic violence every day, every week we wake up to news of somebody who has died. The majority of families come with children and tow the majority of our females, but we know males are impacted as well. And there was a study done that we commissioned that tells us as I saw the Chamber of Commerce President here, it cost us in 2022, domestic violence in itself, considering all costs first responders, hospitals, loss of work, $72 million. Just that year. So there's an economic impact to our communities and I hope that we can call you partners in joining the fight. Thank you Vanessa and Vanessa's on our board. She didn't say that she's actually heads the committee that does plans these events so we're blessed to have her. I just want to thank everybody that came out for domestic violence. We hold here in North Miami Beach. It poured rain. Yes, it was a run walk and yes, your councilwoman walked in the rain. But what I found out afterwards is when they interviewed people, they came from surfside, they came from Miami Beach, they came from North Miami, they came from all over to help fight what needs to be fought. And I just want to thank those that came out. I want to thank those that supported. And I do want to tell you this can be eradicated if we can all work together to say, you can get out. Thank you so much. It's hard to follow you, commissioners. But I, you know, first off, want to say thank you so much to the entire Mayor and Council in commission. And especially to you, I, Commissioner Smokler, I'm really grateful that you agreed to support us in this event. You know, the Miami-Dade County Domestic Violence Oversight Board is one in which we're extremely passionate about ensuring that folks are made aware of the issue of domestic violence. Even now in October, you see a lot of folks wearing pink for breast cancer awareness. And that's extremely important. My mother is a survivor of breast cancer. My cousins and aunts are survivors of breast cancer. But one thing we almost always forget or we don't think about or is not top of mind is domestic violence and the issue that it is in our community. Liz talked about the economic impact. We talked about statistics. One in four women. One in seven men. One in 12 high school students. And not to mention the scores of children who are affected by domestic violence. But we all have something that we can do about it. A proclamation is a piece of paper, but it is a solemn duty that you all have to take because it's important for all of us to be in the fight. And if this is what it's going to take to make folks realize that we all need to be making sure that people are aware of the resources that are out there, the help that are out there, the help that is out there. Then it's what we're going to have to keep on doing. I think Gloria Rivera back there, Fonseca, for who you are, for your advocacy, and for also giving me my favorite paralegal in the world, who worked, her daughter actually was my paralegal and worked on hundreds of cases for immigrant children and women who were fleeing their home countries as a result of domestic violence. And so we never realized the little impact that we may have in somebody's life. It's extremely important for all of us in here to become advocates. It's extremely important that we carry this on beyond October. And also important to know that we need money, the money that Liz mentioned could build shelters. We won't be able to build new shelters, which is pretty much the role of the oversight board to oversee the building of these new shelters for another 10 years. So imagine the hundreds of people and children who are going without a place to sleep because shelters are full. Imagine how many of them are going hungry, unable to access education in their fundamental years as a result. And so let's take every step that we can to eradicate this just as you said, because that is what's going to make sure that our kids and our communities are safe, healthy and whole. Thank you. And I just want to reiterate because I questioned her. The 72 million that she mentioned, that's for Miami-Dade County. It's not for Florida, it's not for the United States. It's for Miami-Dade County. Okay, picture. Okay. That was perfect. Ready? One, two. Yeah. And just as I get, we brought each of you six on the day is a pin. So that as you're supporting breast cancer awareness, you can also support domestic violence. I'm giving this to you because you're always in the stands. That's it. Thank you. Thank you so much. Thank you. That's it. I just want to you know, Harkin on the fact that we have North Miami City clerk here, and I want to also just thank her for all of her efforts. She's one of the reasons why she's not here. I'm just going to ask you to come back and see what you've got. I'm going to ask you to come back and see what you've got. I'm going to ask you to come back and see what you've got. North Miami City Clerk here and I want to also just thank her for all of her efforts. She's one of the reasons why she's one of the reasons why we have free swimming lessons and we remove fees in the city of North Miami Beach for our children here in the city of North Miami Beach because that's something that they also implemented in the city of North Miami Beach because that's something that they also implemented in the city of North Miami. So City Clerk, thank you so much. On a personal note, my brother-in-law, who literally two months ago went to Batsun Cookman College, almost lost his life a week ago. And he was an ICU and his heart stopped three times after drowning in Daytona Beach. So thank God they got to him in time and they were able to recest, to take him three times and, you know, pulled him off of a ventilator earlier this week. And, you know, so, you know, swimming is so, so important and I just wanted to, you know so you know swimming is so so important and I just wanted to you know share that and thank you also for everything you're doing God bless you thank you so much and last but not least we have some amazing children from our community who are here as you can, the artwork around you is from our neighborhood children. So let's give them a hand for Hispanic Heritage Month. So we had a total of 46 participants. And we have four of them who are here today. I'm going to call them up. Sebastian Modesta. He's here. Judith. Judith Gills. Judith, come on up. Sophia Javatees is here. Grizzly Mendez, come on up. Let's give our beautiful and amazing you for hand. Let me give you a certificate. Miss Mendez? All right. We're going to ask Commissioner Smith to give them a pin. Okay. Not this one. And they get an official city pin and now we get a pin. So let's turn around. Giving out pins. Okay, you should give it out by the one big picture. So it's my work for one of the city belts. Yes, good. Okay, wait, let me give her a pin. What's the other one? And that's the first one. And the other hand? Okay, thank you. Thank you. Move up a little bit. Move up a little bit. Come up. Perfect. I'm ready. Ready, one, two, three. Got it. Before you go, tell us what school you're from and what grade you're in. Full for the elementary and I'm in fifth grade. Sebastian Wandastein. Thank you. Full-fled elementary and I'm in fifth grade. So, Bacheline Wondersen. Thank you, school. I'm Sophia and I'm in fifth grade from Full-fled elementary. I'm Judith and I'm in fifth grade from Full-fled elementary. I'm Grace Lee and I'm in fifth grade from full-fin elementary. The winner is Fullford. Thank you so much. Well these young children were here tonight and they saw an artist that goes all over the world. If you aren't expired by that, nothing else will. We expect to see you back here in 10 years, 15 years, and showing us what you're doing for your communities. All right. Are you going to say one thing? And we want to thank our chief of staff and Miss Morris. Thank you so much for putting the certificates together and allowing the children to have four free passes to I pick. In North Miami Beach. Guys, the parents should come up and take pictures too. And one of the parents happens to be the best barber in North Miami Beach. Okay, and he's at VIP Barbershop, and we appreciate you for everything and being part of our community. And a resident as well. So, yeah. So if you guys see me looking good, a lot of times it's going to be, you know, him, yes. Can I say your nickname? Is that okay or no? It's okay all right Come on up parents parents come take a picture Okay. Okay. Okay. You have some other phone there? Yes. You have just the same phone number. Yeah. Okay. We're sweet on it. Hey everyone. I'm ready. One, two, three. Got it. 20 minutes. All right, so we're going to be adjourned for about 15 or 20 minutes when we'll come back for the commission meeting.
