18th Community Service Commission meeting to order. Chair Pro Tem, would you please, Leis and the Pudge? Yes, please stand. Please flag. Ready? Begin. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Katrina, could you please take roll call for us? Chair, March Perry. Here? Chair, President Wilson. Here. Commissioner Nockhoto. Here. Commissioner Henderson. Here. Commissioner Cosette. Thank you. Public input at this time, members of the public may address the commission on subject on subjects at concern us seen no one in the audience will move along. Consent calendar do we have an approval for our approval of our correspondence for the commission meeting on July 17th and our community communication and correspondence. and co-respondence. Is there a second? All in favor? Hi. Thank you, Kerry's for nothing. Regular business with the first item on our agenda today is to talk about the special events, our concerts in the park, movies in the park, and the sunset market. Director Clinton, you want to take that one for us? Thank you, Chairperson. Yes. We finished our, we didn't meet in August. We were, as usual, we're dark in August, so this goes way back. You really got to go back a little bit for our summer months here, but we finished in August, we finished our concerts in the park, our movies in the park, and then we held our most recent sunset market. And all three from SaaS perspective, all three were very successful. We had great years. Stephanie Finn with the concerts in the park. She's a coordinator who did the concerts in the park. And Cici Torres, her first year doing movies in the park. Music cello was the theme. And then the sunset market, Marilyn Boucher, and her team of event professionals put that on. So well done all the way around, but we'd love any feedback. A good, bad, indifferent? No, not indifferent. Good or bad? Good or better, maybe? Very good. From the commission. Commissioner Cummins. I went to two events. The concert's in the park, the first one and the last one. So they were great with a fun time. Very well organized. Had a lot of fun. The lines were there both times. So we had our tent there and it was a nice party there. So that was fun. Sorry about the sunset market, but I worked at first two weeks. So first two months. I just haven't been able to make the other ones. But it's great events, organized, looks like it's gonna probably be a regular type of thing on a regular basis. Everybody seems to enjoy it and having a good time out there. Through the chair. The concert in the park, I attended, I. I think all except one which was fine. I enjoyed it and movies in the park Lily was a Lily was able to come over and attended one of the movies at the park at Pine Tree Park and she enjoyed You know the whole thing and I think that was the first year. The first time we had movies in the park over there, at that park, I think, right? Wasn't that the first time we had it there? Because it was closed here before? I think we've had it there once before. Years before. Yeah, while it was there for a while. But this is the first time we had it since we had the New Park design. while but this is the first time we had it since we had the new park. Yeah, right since we had the new park. Yeah, so anyway, and then Sunset Market, Maryland, there was a great success and hope to see it continue next year. Comments, Commissioner Wesson? Yes. Yes. So I was able to attend several of the concerts in the park and a couple of the movies in the park. They were excellent. A lot of fun, well attended, just amazing and of course on set market has just been a real treat this summer and kind of sad. It's going away but looking forward to seeing it again in April, is that right? That's the rumor. Well, April. And I'll comment. I attended all the summer concerts, and I love them. I had talked to Stephanie a little bit, and I realized that we stuck with rock concerts this year because of our rock tour promotion. I hope in the future that we can have some different types of music. You know, when I look out of the crowd, we're old. You know, they're all like me. You know, they're all my generation. So I was thinking maybe someday we can do something like a jazz band or a concert band or something like that for one of them just to mix it up a little bit for the music. But again, I liked it. I really liked the walkway idea now so that you can get through the crowds because it's a wonderful problem when you have that many crowds that you can't walk from one point A to point B. And I wanted to compliment staff on the work that they did because every time I went over to volunteer, you were very well staffed and very well-maned. And you didn't need us. So that was kind of fun that we got the summer off Unfortunately, I wasn't able to 10 movies in the park, but Sunset Market, I've worked every one of them. Love it, absolutely love it. We've had a great crew when they show up to work hard. Just teasing Ken when they show up to work our booths. But we've had a lot of fun out there and appreciate the fact that we could be involved in something like that. And so I'm hoping everybody comes out for our last one Thursday night, so it's been a great summer and I look forward to it next year. Thank you Chairperson and everybody for your input. I will say that for the sunset market, after this next one, the Thursday tomorrow, we will be doing an analysis of this first year of attendance and lessons learned. Again, the good, the bad, the ugly, not the ugly, not the ugly, the good and bad. And because that's something we'll also take the council. But we'll bring it to the commission as well as what it looks like and what we're expecting to be able to do like Superdentent, sorry, Deputy Director Boucher said that the rumor is that we'll be able to do next year. We're going to do something, what it looks like exactly, or win exactly, and more information to come on up. I might even suggest too that maybe this year we can throw out a holiday market, not in with what we do with the tree lighting because that would be insane, but maybe a holiday market so people can do some shopping, maybe the Lions, you know, like you always do your vendors and things like that, your boutique, that might be an opportunity for, a holiday boutique or a holiday evening market, that type of thing too, with craft vendors. Not too. But again, it was a great summer, and again, you guys have done an outstanding job. We appreciate it. Do we have a motion to receive and file? A motion to receive and file. And I'll go ahead and second that. All in favor? All right. I'm motion to receive and file and I'll go ahead and second that all in favor. I thank you Item number four is our Community Service Commission Strategic Plan and this is about presence at the test and tiller days Director Clanton. Thank you chair person It's shaping up to be another great tiller days. We are Still themed with the creating community tour for sorry, for tiller days. In fact, you should have gotten your invite to the VIP party, which is backstage rock show themed. But Garrison Divine is the point for some of this transitioning to Carl Hailey, because as you may know, Garrison is going to be having his first child. And so he will be leaving like any day now, his wife, Dinesh, will be having his first child. And so he will be leaving very like any day now. His wife, Denisha, will be having their child. And so he will not be here much for tiller days, but Carl's gonna take over. And so the commissioner's involvement though is same as previous years. We'll have the kickoff party on Thursday, October 3rd, starting at 6 p.m. And if you have an RSVP, we'd love for you to make it. Then we have the Pancake Breakfast, the next morning on Saturday, followed by the parade. We will have the shuttle from CT to pick any commissioners up, to take them to the Pancake Breakfast, and then to the start of the parade. We do have a, I guess we're calling it a float, the trailer that's available for the commission to write on. We don't know if the commission wants a theme in years past. We've done a parks make like better themed. We've had the tree, not sure the status on the tree this year. If we still have the tree or not, we do. We have the tree still. It is available if we want it. Okay, that's good to know. So we do have the tree or not, we do. We have the tree still. It is available if we want it. OK, that's good to know. So we do have the tree. We can do that same theme again. And it's up to the commissioners if you want to dress like people that are going to parks in years past. We've had pickleball going on at the same time, like adjacent to the float. Or some of you brought family members. That's all good. And so we can do something very similar. It's sort of add that the commissioners at the pleasure of commission of what you wanna do, but we do have that available for you and we do have an entry for you in the parade. That's all set, that's all been lined up. So it's just a matter of what you wanna do in the parade. And then the rest of the event is, we're excited for it. We're adding, we are doing a wrestling match again. Like last year, it's not the luchador wrestling, it's, but it's a different outfit, different organization on Friday night. We're doing, they're gonna build a wrestling ring and they're gonna have wrestling as entertainment. We're also doing a car smash as a fundraiser where people can pay $10 for a minute of time with gloves, a big sledgehammer and goggles, and go to town on a junker car that was donated by Archie Toing. And this would be a fundraiser and the Lions Club I think is going to be manning that. And so that's something new and different than Garrison Divine is brought to the table. And, but yeah, shaping up to be a great event. We're praying to look and get everything's looking good. So. The $10 per minute? It's for a minute, yeah. For a minute. I mean, I guess if you were, if you want to do a second minute, another $10. But from what I understand, you know, you have a big sledgehammer, one minute, it's about it, it's about all you're going to do. Okay. Commissioner comments? About the float, I guess we should talk about a little bit. I was okay with last year's, like it was set up, last year with the tree and the bench. Do we want to stick with our rock promoting community through our rock concert theme or do we want to go with sports or? The rock concert things almost over with isn't it? It's through the end of the year. Yeah, it's up to you guys The rocks and say testing rocks. Yeah Yeah, we could follow that. The rock concert. Yeah. What type of attire do we have to wear for that? I think you look great in the kiss. Apparently it's our. There are four members of kiss and there's four of you here. One of you could default and let Rusty. Richard Kozak be the fourth member, whatever you want to do. Well, we can take that offline and just kick it around with the studio we're up with. Yeah. Although sports attire is a moment easier than trying to do rock work. Some of us have to work after the parade. Yeah. Sure. That's true. Do you need a, okay, for participation, I think that's typical what we do this time of year. And if you want us to be again provide the tree, the trailer, I think we had a smaller canopy. I think we're going to need to do a theme as well because if you want staff to decorate it in any type of themes, then that would need to be. And we need to figure it out Well, we do the rock theme then we could wear the shirts That'd be easy The rock shirts creating community. Yeah, I mean shirts. Yeah, that'd be easy It's a rope, you know like blow up air guitars, you know that kind of stuff. Yeah Yeah, let's make it let's make it rock or music kind of theme. No singing though from anybody. No, you don't want that. Do you want me to sing? No, we don't want you to sing, thank you. I don't know, maybe we can direct or decorate with music kind of things. I know it's how to show people your rights. Through the try, I think the inflatable guitars are a great idea. We worry a concert tour, creating a concert tour, shirts. We'll still provide the canopy, the smaller canopy. Maybe not the tree, unless you really want to see Fay is the tree. At this point, we just do the canopy. And then, Melissa clearly has some ideas already in terms of decorations. Oh, we go to the center. It's actually going to be decorating the roof. Oh, okay. So that's why I say she'll open the pie because I will be as well. Yeah, that's right. Okay, they're very good. But Rocky. You might use clearly the decoration. Yeah. Oh, through the chair. I need to get a shirt. I don't have a shirt extra large. Yep. Okay. Concert here. Yeah Through the chair. Are we going to have like he base and the Trucks so we can sit on or what is it? There's no make sure they put I think we have benches. Yeah, we have benches. Are we gonna have a bench? We can get some chairs Benches the chair would We can get some chairs. Oh, benches. The chair would be good to some chairs. We are getting older. Yeah. We get some place to sit. Yeah, because in between, you don't want to be standing the whole time. In Commissioner Weston, indicated she's not available. And we'll find out about Commissioner Cosack. OK. We'll find out about Commissioner Kozak. Okay. The art committees are going to have their own float probably. We talking about this afternoon at their meeting. Yes, they at this point they plan for it. I just don't know what the theme is. But now that we know your theme, we'll let them know. Okay. And other commissioners may or may not be joining you on your float. Yeah, we do open it up for the audit and planning mission. We plan to join. That would be great. OK. All right, anything else we need to discuss regarding that? I'm not sure about pancake breakfast yet. I don't know if people, you guys know yet. Yeah, I'll be able to go to all the events. OK. Breakfast. We'll follow with the email that we usually do and then ask for your RACP's so we know what to expect on the morning before the pancake breakfast. Perfect. Thank you. All right then emotion to receive and file the information. I move to receive and file the information. Thank you. Second. Oh second. All right. All in favor. All right. Thank you. We need more of like a plan like a motion of a plan if possible. A motion of a plan. Okay. So there you go. I move that we approve the details of the participation. Second. Okay. There we go. All in favor? Okay. Thank you. Sorry. I ran that one right across from you. Item number five is Commissioner Park Visit Reports and item number six is liaison reports and for the sake of time because of our tour blessings to go ahead and postpone that till next time. Okay. Perfect. Item number seven, the director's report, director Clinton. Thank you, chairperson. I do have a few items. I'll run through them quick so we can get going on the park tour. We're very excited about that. First is the art walk and artisan market. C.C. Torres is in charge of this event this year. And it's a, this is the 17th annual. I can't believe it's been that long. But October 19th, 11 to 5, we are going to close the streets in Old Town on Alcambino Real and have all of the fine art and craft type activities we have in previous years, including work with our partners, our vital books, the Testinary Council for Fine Arts. I'm sure the Historical Society will be around with the museum. And this year, part of the reason I wanted to bring it up today is this year, on the heels of the art walk, chalk restaurant is doing a wine festival. So we will have closed the street for the art walk, and we'll keep it closed, and chalk will be doing their wine. I think it's called a festival, a wine event. Wine related event in the street so that on the tail end, so the street closure will go for another two hours beyond the end of the event, time for them to be able to do their thing. The street still closes at the same time. They're starting there early. Oh, they're starting there earlier. That's right. They're starting there early. So there's an overlap between their event and artwork, which we already have wine at the artwork. It already is that kind of event. So that is something new this year that we're doing. And like I've talked about previous in previous meetings, part of what we're looking at and bringing events to old town street closure events is, it doesn't only have to have to be us, it's a parsing wreck doing it. It can be other, it can be, provided the book fair, the TCF did the SIP and Stroll. We're open to these things. We want to encourage them and we're working on a process by which businesses or organizations can apply to do a street closure and do an event in Old Town. The holiday market that the chairperson suggested is kind of a great idea for I think for another outside event. We would help them. We assist with the street closure and we can assist with planning, but those kind of things we would encourage the community to be able to do. So it's not always parks and rec that has to do the events directly. So I just wanted to bring that up with the art walk for the public art updates. Tomorrow afternoon at 7 p.m. we are doing the Make a House of Home Illumination event. This is during the Sunset Market. Deputy Director Bussier has worked with Public Works Department, an architect, Tim Shaw, as well as the artist to get these installed. And they've been installed for a while, but we're doing an official dedication or illumination tomorrow night at 7 p.m. So if you can make it, please come by. We'll be doing that and making sure to give this the, that art piece is a donated piece from the artist, heromi, Takazawa. So we want to basically honor her and thank her for that generous donation. Also, the latest two creative signals, boxes have been finished. You can see the locations here and what they look like. The one is Browning Avenue and Walnut near some elementary school, not Shirley Shirley Elementary School name. I don't know if Commissioner Nakamoto knows the name of that school, elementary school on that site. But Nelson, I figured you would. So yes, right in front of Nelson. Nelson. Nelson. I figured you would. So yes, right now, Nelson. And then the other one is up near well across the street from Sirter's Ranch Park. So those are the two most recent installations. And then their next prod, the Public Art Commission's next project is a mural on this wall at Centennial Park. We may see this today, but it'll be part of what's the improvements being done at the park. This mural will be done, it'll be a painted mural, but it'll be done similar to the way we did the mural at Frontier Park, where it'll be like themes and imagery will be gathered from community members in Tesset Meadows. So we just recently reached out and got interest from artists. So tonight at the Public Art Commission meeting, they're going to potentially choose an artist that they want to work with to work with the community to do the public input and design a mural in the coming months. So that's coming up. That's their next project coming up. With the idea that this would be done by the time of the park reopen in the spring to summertime of 2025. Oh, and then so that concludes, you can go back to the other camera please Katrina. I don't know what happened. So I just I did the next next slide. I went to dark. The CIP update, I'm going to defer that to the tour because we're going to talk about all the things on the tour but the last thing I'm going to do is recently we promoted three different people from within the department and they're going to talk about all the things in the tour, but the last thing I'm going to do is recently we promoted three different people from within the department, and they're going to actually join us on the park tour today. And they are here in the audience. So from right to left, the Miles Garvin, he worked for us for like seven years, and he worked at CT at the sports park, and most recently in VSP on the annex, but now he is the full-time recreation coordinator doing our adult sports program and stationed at Tusson Sports Park. Next to him is Jessica Castro. Jessica has been with us several years as well and she most recently has been at Columbus Tustin but she spent several years at the Tusson Family and Youth Center and now she is the recreation coordinator overseeing the Columbus Tusson Recreation Center and then Maram Garcia. Again, been with us for several years. Maryam Garcia, most recently, was at Tusson Sports Park, but she was also at CT for some time. And now she is at the Annex, working under a Carl Halele as the, he's the Park Services Supervisor, and she is the Recreation Coordinator overseeing the annex and veteran sports parks. They will be joining us on tour today. We're very happy to be able to promote them from within. They've worked hard. They're talented. They are smart and we're very happy to have them. So I wanted to introduce three of them to you today. Normally I'd have them do a song for you, but because we're doing the park tour, I want to I want to finish it here and then turn it back over to you, Chair. Great thank you and congratulations all of you and we look forward to having you with us but you're sworn to secrecy. What happens in the van stays in the van. Thank you thank you director Clinton Commissioner comments Commissioner Henderson anything tonight? This morning time but but yes, but I'm looking forward to spending the day with you guys Commissioner Nakamoto Congratulations and Hope to work with all of you rest of the year and even more Okay, thank you. Chair pro-Termwesen. I'm just congratulations I'm looking forward to the time in the van and also just wanted to share Because we did door liaison reports just how happy that detest and community foundation is with the collaboration with the city on tons at market Thank you and unfortunately I'll close with the passing of two very special people to test and you may have may or may or not heard We lost mayor former mayor Ursula Kennedy this last week. She was a three term city council person, first female elected to the city council, and first female mayor. She served from 1978 to 1999, 1990. And also unfortunately we lost Mrs. Bees. Mrs. Antoinette, Bartola Mochie passed away, and we knew Mrs. Bees, a store for a long time, and unfortunately she passed away this past week too. So our thoughts are with their families. So with that, we'll go ahead and adjourn our meeting and our next commission meeting will be Wednesday, October 18th and look forward to seeing all of you again. Thank you. We are adjourned. I didn't hear that.
