Two sergeants to the rank of lieutenant, two police officers to the rank of sergeant, and four officers to the rank of detective. If you would please rise for the Pledge of Allegiance. Please join me in the pledge. I pledge allegiance to the flag. in the United States of America and to the Republic for the first time which stands my nation and my God, invisible with liberty and justice for all. Thank you. Please be seated. Adrian, you can sit too. Little change. It's my pleasure to call up the city manager, Alfredo Melendez for some remarks. Thank you and welcome to today's one of those days you really want to come to work, right? It's a really good day and to Friday and there's nothing better than this. I'll first I want to thank the police commissioner or deputy commissioner and all our management staff for a job well done. The ceremony serves as a reminder of the invaluable role you play in keeping our neighborhood safe and it's a moment to celebrate your achievements. The work you do often goes unnoticed and it it really does, and we really appreciate that here. In the city, and I think our residents really do too. You guys do a tremendous job, and it's a really an honor to, I hope you embrace the work that you've done and the achievements that you've accomplished. So thank you very much to the family and friends. I know it's a joint package, right? You live with the offices every day and you live through their lives. So it's really a testament of what they do and what you have to support that you provide. So thank you, and I'll hand it off to Captain. Thank you. Applause. Thank you, Mr. Melendez. I'd like to now introduce the police commissioner Robert Kazola for summer marks. Morning everyone. So I just want to thank you all for being here. I want to thank the city manager, our commissioners, our friends and family. This is a good day as the city manager said. Today we're promoting eight police officers to new ranks and positions within the department. Police sergeants Jeffrey Morello, Christopher Carelli are being promoted to the rank of lieutenant. Police officers, Carrey Bird, Michael Martins are being promoted to sergeant. Police specialists, Nicholas Guzola and Anthony Moravli are being promoted to detective, as well as police officers Mercer Bird and Agent Pina. Before I start, I always like to describe the process involved in the promotion. So people understand why these folks are here today, and I use the word folks, Sylvia. My wife's just used the word folks a lot, Sylvia. So for the people who are being promoted to supervisors, they have to take a state examination. It's a difficult examination. It covers a lot of laws, a lot of supervision. They have to go through a whole host of studying and get ready and then they have to be identified scoring the top three and then having to be identified by civil services being candidate candidate for promotion. Once that's done, then we put them through a assessment center. And during the assessment center, they sit down with our captains and some of our staff attendants. And they have to go through again another assessment where we're talking about their role here, what we expect from them. Additionally, we look at their performance history, their evaluations, any complaints, their attendance records, a whole host of things. Once we decide, once the committee decides who to recommend, Debby and I decide then who gets here. But truly, it's the work that these folks have done over their careers at Godom here. For the detectives, it's a little different. Each one of the detectives have been identified and recommended by their supervisors and ultimately their commanding offices for appointment. Some have gone through a detective training program, which provides practical information on how to become detectives. Others have been assigned to special units where they've already been doing work as an investigator and they've just proven that they can really take the next step. These are happy days. Promotions ceremonies are a good time when we get to acknowledge their hard work and the exemplary service to the city. The aid offices as you see here today are very good at what they do and they're also very good people so I'm very happy for them. In a moment what I like to do is I like to just talk a little bit, I kind of step on Collins. Collins is going to give the official bio, I like to give kind of the unofficial bio and sometimes we cross over and I step on his toes and it gets a little annoyed at me but bear with me. So first off, there's going to be no particular water but Lieutenant Morello. So Jeff has been with us for about 10 years and is relatively short career he's already performed extremely well and has proven his ability to supervise. After spending a few years as a SWAT operator and a critical incident unit, he was promoted to Sarge just a couple of years ago. He didn't waste any time getting promoted again to the next level. I really look forward to seeing how Jeff develops his career. He'll be on the stage again probably in a couple of years, there's no doubt. Lieutenant Chris Carelli, also, another 10-year guy, has already proven he's ready for the next step. He has quickly demonstrated his value to the agency. He's a pro-rentess sergeant again just a few years ago. He's assigned to the training unit, no small task, having to work with any Marco Dei in a day out. He's a pro-ordinate to Sergeant again just a few years ago. He's assigned to the training unit, no small task, having to work with any Marco Day in and day out. He's a smart, capable guy and he's going to continue to have a great career here at his no doubt. And if you look and you're wondering, he is old enough to carry him on. Sergeant Mike Mient, Martin's. Mike has been with us for about 11 years and he worked primarily on a midnight tour for a big portion of that. He quietly goes about his business in a very professional manner. I think he's going to have a really good study influence on our younger officers and I really look forward to seeing Mike develop. I didn't mention this before. It probably bears some mentioning now. This is a bit of a historic ceremony for us. This is the first time that we've ever promoted, not just two sisters broke the mic. Can you hear me now? Not just two sisters, but we're promoting two twin sisters. So this is, right. So to start with Kari, Kari is sort of a trailblazer. I say that because she was the first female member of our CIO team in about 20 years. We had a CIO member years ago, but she's the first one in kind of modern history, recent history. She was also the very first female SWOT operator that we had. So she is a distinction that she holds alone. Today she becomes the first female supervisor that we had since 2020. She's a proven leader, she's an example to our other officers, especially female officers who may be considering pursuing supervisory role in the department. And for Mike, I am very sorry, but now Kari outranked she went home and at work. She probably already did that anyways, right? Yeah. Detective Marissa Bird. Marissa actually had an opportunity to be a sergeant, and she turned it down. Her goal was to be a detective, and so she worked hard at that. And she's been a very valuable asset to the department from very early on in the career. She worked as in our detective unit as an undercover operative and then later on she became one of the most prolific field training officers, training new probationary officers. She now is assigned to our general investigations unit, continues to perform at a high level, and I think she's going to do really good things for us going forward. Detective Adrian Pina on the end. So prior to beginning his career with the NRPD, Adrian worked for the NYPD. He came to Nurse Shell, really hit the ground running. He fit right in, made a great impression on everybody on his co-workers and supervisors. Because of his performance, he was selected to represent the NERSHEL Police Department at the FBI Safe Street Task Force, has been doing an excellent job in that position. He is too going to continue to be a very valuable asset for us years to come. Next, Kid Anthony Moravli. So Anthony is a legacy. His dad was a cop here. He's been assigned to the community engagement division as a bead officer and now assigned as a youth officer. He has his outgoing personality and a very energetic. He's always happy to kid just he he fits the role that we want in a youth officer and a community officer. He grew up in Nourishel and has a really good field for the community and his residence. And as I mentioned, Anthony's father Vinny is a retired detective in Nourishel and former youth officer as well. And keeping with the tradition of the police department, Anthony will now wear the same detective shield at Vinny once wore. Finally, Nick Gzzolah, who was another legacy, if you don't know, he is my son. Like Anthony Nick will wear my detective shield. No, you won't. I was never detective. No, no, no. I was never detective and a good friend of mine, former lieutenant, made me realize that. He texted me, congratulating me and said, said, finally, because all is going to be detective. George Marshall's not good. Anyway, Nick has been in a tough spot for his career. I know that might not sound reasonable, but being the son of the police commissioner is not an easy task. And Nick has handled it very well. And although his mom would have preferred he stayed in Harvard, he's his own man, made his own decisions, worked very hard, never asked for special treatment, very proud of his accomplishment. So, keep up the good work. So before I go, this is to the family members, in attendance, I want to thank you. Being a police officer nowadays is very difficult. Being police officers looking for promotion and going through that process, even more stressful. So thank you for supporting them. Thank you for continuing to support them. With the promotions come raises, so expect them to take you out to a nice launch or dinner tonight. Thank you for your attention. Appreciate it. Thank you commissioner. Is this Mike working better? Thank you. Hey the cops know I can't deal with the low talk or thing I have to be consistent. All right the city clerk of Nureshel Kim Jones will now administer the oath of office to the officers. Officers, please stand and raise your right hand. I, the president, please do solemnly say that I will support the institution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York and that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office of your secretary in New York according to the best of my work. Congratulations to you. Thank you, Ms. Jones. All visitors, you can take your time. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. you. Jones. I can thank Captain Robert Tours for putting together these bios. They're very impressive. And he writes very eloquently. We have to see the development in in the world. So it is very nice and very impressive. And we'll start with a second.
