All right, good morning. Good morning. I'm Captain Collins-Coin and I'm joined here today by Acting City Manager Alfredo Melendez. Mayor Yadira Remel's Herbert, Police Commissioner Robert Cazola, and Deputy Police Commissioner Neil K. Reynolds, as well as my colleague, Captain Robert Tour. Welcome family and friends and fellow police officers to our promotion ceremony in which the following promotions will take place. One lieutenant, three sergeants and two detectives. Would you please rise for the pledge of allegiance? I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic, for which it stands, one nation, under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. Thank you, please be seated. It's my pleasure to call upon the Acting City Manager, we'll pray to Melinda's for some remarks. Thank you. Thanks for having me here. It's a great opportunity to see a really good event here of promoting people that really, really deserve it. A police officer is not just a job. It's a calling. It's a commitment that they make every day and they are really public facing and it's a tough job. You make this city, you protect this city and that really goes a long way and that really doesn't go unnoticed. A promotion just doesn't happen. It means there's a lot of hard work that goes behind it. So I really commend you for that. And I thank you for that. I would like to congratulate you, and I know this is not just you, and I walked in here, and I wrote this down, and it's a pure example, and I see it's a family. So it's a commitment. It's not what you do here every day. I know it comes home with you every day. And the families here are part of what you do. So again, very deserving. Thank you for the sonner of being part of this. And congratulations again. Thank you, Mr. Melendez. I like to introduce the mayor of Nourishel, Miss Yidira Ramos Herbert. Good morning and I'll just echo Mr. Melendez's thoughts. Just a really hearty thank you to each of you for your professionalism, the way that you step up to keep us safe, but I've also see how you nurture care and just provide calmness in times of chaos. So on behalf of the City Council and the City, we are grateful for your service. Congratulations on this promotion and to the families. As you said, each of you, it's a sacrifice for all of you. I see the babies, the moms, the grandparents, the siblings, the aunts, the uncles. It's a team effort for sure. So the City thanks you for the sacrifices you make in letting them go out and do their tremendous professional work. So thank you again, I'm happy to be here to celebrate with this community. Thank you Madam Mayor. I'd like to introduce police commissioner Robert Cazola. Thank you. Good morning, everybody. First, I'd like to thank you all for being here, particularly Acting City Manager, Melendez, Mayor Raymond Slerrett. Our folks here, most of them are sitting in the back because they don't like to come up front and all the city commissioners and folks from the city departments. Thank you for your support. Before I start, I always like to just talk about why we're promoting people, how they get to disposition. And so when you look at the supervisors here, how they get to this position, they have to take a test. It's a New York State test, and it's a tough test. They have to study, they have to put a lot of time in. It's a lot of dry material learning the law, learning supervision techniques, and it's an effort. And to their credit, they have to score well enough to be acknowledged by the civil service as a candidate. Once they get to that point, then they sit down before panel and it's a panel of captains, lieutenant, staff, lieutenant. And they have to answer questions about what they do, how they work, supervision, law, things that they should know, things that we want them to know. But it's important that they get it right. And it's, again, it's another one of those kind of stress and do moments. We also look at their work history. It's important. We're not just taking them because they did well on a test. We're looking at their work history, their evaluations, their any disciplinary history, their accolades, things that they've done in their career. And then when they get to that point, they get to sit up here and we're proud of these guys. For the detectives, it's really performance-based. These guys have shown throughout their careers that they are ready to do investigations. They're able to step up and do detailed, oftentimes difficult detailed investigations from stock to finish. And what they do is they get acknowledged by their bosses in patrol. They go to a training program. If they do really well in a training program, they're put into the hopper. They're the guys that we're going to look for to promote. We then take them, we put them in a unit as silver shields which they are now, and they stay there until and again, they have to kind of prove their medal. And these two guys have absolutely done that. They're outstanding detectives already without the designation. They're going to continue doing really great work for us. I have started years ago just talking a little bit about the individuals. So I want to just take a moment, just to personally thank them. So you're going to hear their official bios in a few minutes. You're going to be impressed. These guys have done a lot of stuff in their time here, right? But I just want to talk a little bit about them individually. Sam Goldman, I'll start with Lieutenant. We promoted Sam just a couple years ago. And at that promotion, Sir, I'm wondering, remember saying this is not going to be the last time you see Sam on a stage for promotion. He's a bright, articulate guy. He's become a really, really good dependable supervisor. I think he has the respect of the people who work for him. I know he has my respect. So at the at the stake of sounding repetitive, this is not going to be the last time you see Sam on a stand. He is he's getting his one bar today. I imagine he's going to get a second bar in a few years. So congratulations Sam. Very proud of you. Um. APPLAUSE Derek, Derek Pierson is going to be promoted to Swadja today. Very stoic, very serious guy. You can see he hasn't cracked the smile yet. Um. I think yesterday was the most he's talked to me. Because he was in a locker room. He was a little awkward. We were near each other in a locker room. Um. But he is, he is an excellent copy. He, about seven years ago, he was hired. He really demonstrated impotry, how good of a copy was. He became an accident investigator in a traffic unit. I think he's going to be a great example for young police officers here. So I'm very proud of Derek, and I'm happy that he's up there in the stage as well. Applause. Detective Matt Velasco, he's going to be a sergeant. He's impressed me all the way through. As a young police officer, he did a fantastic job. He became a detective, not down one go, and he's done a fantastic job, started out in our special investigations unit. They're really good job with stolen vehicles, so much so that he sort of becomes like the de facto trainer of two-hour-old detectives, how to investigate stolen cars. He's now assigned to what he was assigned to a property theft unit, and he always does a great job. And I'm proud of Matt, and I think he's going to do another one that was really good guys for younger officers to follow their lead. So again, happy for Matt. And finally, Antonio Sabatino, if you might not notice from talking to him, but he's Italian. Anthony has a very big personality. He's a fun guy to talk to. He could exhaust you sometimes, but he's a real fun guy to talk to. He was in our beat officer in our PAC unit, our engagement division, and he's done a fantastic job. He's one of those guys that could talk to anybody. He represents this department really well. I think going forward as a supervisor, again, another one of those guys that our younger cops can emulate and take a lot from. So I'm very happy. There is one fun fact. He is a graduate of Davis Elementary School. And his favorite teacher was Mrs. Gazzola, second grade. So there you go. So finally on toward detectives, Mike Nader, I'm going to hold off on Mike. So John Bufamonte, a few years ago, when not few, it's been more than that now, seven years ago. When John was interviewed for his pre-employment interview, I was a deputy commissioner. And I remember he was at the time, he was not, he wasn't old, he was just an older candidate. There was much younger people sitting before us. And sometimes when you're interviewing folks for this job and you get a, you know, someone who's a little bit more mature, a little more positioned in life, you really appreciate what they have to say. And John was very impressive at his initial interview. And I remember he, prior to becoming a police officer, he was an investigator with the New York State Bureau of Investigations, or whatever it's called. And so he's done investigation work. And we knew that this is going to be his goal. He had said it in the meeting that that's ultimately what he wants to do. And he is done a fantastic job as an investigator. He is one of Brian Fagan. Fagan gives me the, you know, we talk about Nader. We talk about Boof, and he goes, he just gives you like one of those thumbs up and head nods. And so you know, that means a lot that they recognize. John, I'm very happy to be here to promote you today. Finally, so Mike, Mike Nader, Acosta, me and all yesterday, and was afraid I was going to rib him about something. To be honest, I have kidded him about his mustache because he's been growing it for about six months. But this is not about Mike's mustache. I'm not going to talk about Mike's mustache today. All right. So Mike, don't worry about it. It's not about the mustache. Mike is done from day one, again, like just one of these really, really good cops. He's right out of the gate, like a great cop. He's a cop of the year, a police officer of the year, a few years back. He does everything right. He portrays what our profession should be. And I'm very proud that he's up here. When he was a cop, he became a critical incident unit. So a member, so he was a tactical police officer. He then transitioned into a really good investigator. So again, another guy who just has a great career, he's a really good cop, really good detective, and I look forward to seeing what he's got still in the future. So thank you so before I finish, I just want to thank you all for your attention. Your support means a lot to us, and your support to them means a lot to them. So thank you very much. Thank you, Commissioner. The mayor will now administer the oath of us, please stand. Nareza, right hand. Sorry. First time. The raise right hand. There you go. Do each of them. No, just all at once. Okay. You can stand and try and have them raise their hair. Okay, guys. I do solemnly swear, please repeat after me. I do solemnly swear or firm that I will support the Constitution of the United States and the Constitution of the State of New York. And that I will faithfully discharge the duties of the office. There's two titles. Okay. Of police lieutenant, for those of you doing that one. Of police sergeant. One more. Police Lieutenant, for those of you doing that one, of police sergeant, one more, and detective. In New Rochelle, New York, according to the best of my ability. There you go Madam Mayor. General, please be seated. Lieutenant Samuel E. Goldman. I'd like to thank Captain Torrid for writing these bios. They're very impressive as the commissioner said. I'm going to go through each one. And if there are good jokes in there, they're my edits. If they're not, I'm going to have to blame Captain Tours.
