which are some of the things that the community has continuously complained about in addition to parking enforcement. But I have learned from speaking to the chief that these vehicles will not be replacing those vehicles that are used for traffic control and traffic stops. These indeed are supposedly going to be replacing marked vehicles. So I'm still on the fence in terms of that because I'm thinking maybe we can test the feasibility. I know that there's some sort of laws that we are supposed to be trying to get caught up to from the state. From speaking with the chief, I'd say maybe one vehicle. And if we replace some vehicles that's used them for what we are currently experiencing, which is traffic problems, parking problems. And so, in short, maybe one vehicle, but not three. And last year, I want to reiterate, please, can we revisit this guideline, this nearly 20-year-old guideline and perhaps extend the mileage in the years of these vehicles? I'm going to repeat again. We are in a general phone deficit. We have a new president is coming in that's vowing not to give money to sanctuary. Thank you, Miss Brian. I mean, if you go to the rent board hearings, you'll see where he and his property and Grace Star, who is notorious, I mean, it is not in the United States and Europe, or where they offend tenants. East Fulalto is 60% renters and Mr. Powell is a violator and also believe in the separation between church and state. He's trying to weave his way through. It's nice being kind to people, but he's trying to take over. And he should be, sit letters saying, stop being a slum lord and that's basically what what he is Instead of improving his tenets of lives He goes out of his way to retaliate and I'm not gonna mention are Going to be president's name, but he's almost as bad as he is. I just wanted that to be on the record about Mr. Powell. And they ignite the peace. What do you call it, Carnival, that he puts on? That's part of him trying to ingratiate his way into the city, but he doesn't take care of his tenants. Okay, charging $3,000 a month for an apartment, and then he's going to be the president of the city. And maybe later down the road, we can consider opening back up our snack bar for fundraisers for jerseys with our kids name on the back so we can look like the well oil machines that we are when we hit the field and went. And it's so many times where kids say they wanna keep playing baseball and they can't, because there was no place to play in EPA, okay? Unless they wanna pay $400, $500 or no play, how I'll tell Babe Ruth or for Belmont Babe Ruth. We put the program here and we're like no, you stay here, play with us. And that was fall 23. We didn't have a place to play for the older kids because our fields are not big enough for them yet. Now they put in the work. The rest of the kids are all of our kids from ages seven, all the way to 12. A lot of them are here too because they support our program. They love playing baseball, Ravens with Little League. I love coaching them and working with them. This is why I'm here. I love this city. I love to coach baseball and EPA. I love helping run this program. I'm so proud of these Wolfpack team because a lot of those kids are kids that I coached myself and taught how to play this game. Johnny, he's been such a huge force in this community. I mean, I'm just looking at kids here. A couple of kids, they took a year off and came back, helped us win the championship. So I'm just really, really, really proud of it. Lucas is right there, one of the kids I started off with. He was like seven. And you know, he said he wanted to say something to you guys, is that okay if I haven't come up? Lucas, come on up. I have a double space for you. I was just going to talk about how much baseball meant to me and how much baseball changed my life. And if we could still have baseball so that I could change other kids' lives too, like it didn't mind. When I first started baseball, I found a passion and love with baseball that I didn't find with any other thing. And baseball really changed my life too because when I had other problems in life, I knew that I could go to baseball and it was like a relaxation. It like it helped me relax and it was just fun and I didn't really if I lost it wasn't as much as a toll as if I lost in any other sports since I loved baseball so much. I just wanted to keep getting better and better. So if we could have another field for older kids, younger kids, so that they could also have this chance and to experience what I experienced, I would gladly enjoy that a lot. And it was sad that we didn't have a field because we had to play games away, which is basically where you had to play at different other parks now. We're in yours. And I wish that we could play in EPA, but we didn't have the chance to do that since we didn't have a field to play at. So I hope that later that we could have a field where we, like older kids, younger kids could actually have a championship and win here because I didn't get that chance. The way we won our games, it wasn't how we did at baseball. It was what we did at practice. They enjoyed playing run down at practice. They hit the ball and we forced them to run, run, run. And that's the same way we beat this team and we won a championship for games. The Foster City team was seven and old when we played them in the regular season and they wiped us out and we controlled them seven to four. And in that game they bought an umpire into the game. I went to the mound to talk to Lucas and I said Lucas how you doing? He said fine. I say the umpire is called a terrible isn you doing? He said, if I, I say, the arm prize calling, I'm getting terrible isn't he? He said, kind of. I said, look how they try to make me go back to the deck out. I said, just take your time and do your best and hit that, hit that chest protectors. And guess what? He shut them down. So I love what he said tonight. And I look forward to coaching him again and following him in baseball. In 1971 when I played Little League, that's when the year, the last time we won a flag. Wow, that's wow. I think a lot of people know that and I've done a lot of work around East Palo Alto over the years I wanted to take a chance to address the last meeting of the outgoing council that adopted the building the just city motto and the motto comes from the book by planning theorist Susan Fountstein the just city and as far as I know East Palo Alto is the only city in the world that has adopted this idea as part of its formal motto. But you also have sister cities that are inspired by the same themes in their affordable housing efforts and social justice efforts, such as the city of Vienna in Europe, which actually just had a book about it, Vienna is still a just city. In California itself, the city of West Hollywood, which actually incorporated just a year after East Palo Alto, also in large measure driven by a desire for rent control. So building on the new motto as part of EPS brand, I hope in the future to be able to leverage the motto to build connections and exchange on the theme of the just City. For Susan Fancyne, she did this by comparing New York, London, and Amsterdam, and what I would like to do despite their radical differences is a comparative study of East Palo Alto, West Hollywood, and Vienna. And for the purpose of this, I've registered the web domain, newjustcity.org for this project and I'll providing more information about it as it develops. Thank you very much. But I wanted to say, and I want to be at the end of this year, that it is my intentions being in real estate, I understand the plane and I'm hoping that you guys will and the upcoming ones will improve the life of our citizens. If you improve the life of our citizens, the city will prosper. I mean, maybe even go back to what people weren't aware of that we used to have a great middle class, government workers from all across the board. I mean, the hospital postal service did the fence, but they were quiet, quiet, and they laid back and then finally they had to, some of them died. But I want the quality of our citizens to prosper and pay attention to the people. We have 60% renters pay attention to them. And if the landlords don't comply, dissolve them like you did the sanitary district. It's easy. Get rid of them. They're parasite on East Palo Alto. That's all. And happy new year. Thank you. I just wanted to speak out because whenever I see performance reviews over and over again, it means there's still some negotiation that's going on. I really want you to look at what our city manager has done with regards to putting in some sort of program with his staff about what it means to work in these Paul Walto. I also want to acknowledge his input or having the input from small business people in the community to weigh in on what's being done in the RBD or what we need as far as economic development. I also want to acknowledge our city attorney, unlike I've told you before, I have pointed out a few things with regards to being in violation of the Brown Act, he very quickly to care of that. Both of these two individuals have been very responsive to my questions and my inquiries and when I bring things to their attention. And I would love to see that they get their compensation what they deserve. We need some people in leadership to steer the rest of our staff and have that continuity given them what they're worth and what from my experience I can vouch for as being very available to the community. And maybe I need to do this at every consent calendar can vouch for as being very available to the community. And maybe I need to do this at every consent calendar, even if I don't see it on closed session. And it is a true privilege to stand here today on behalf of the Senator and Assembly Number Diane Papin to recognize the, in honor, the extraordinary contributions of Antonio Lopez, as you complete this tenure on the East Paul Alto City Council. Antonio's leadership has been defined by an unwavering commitment to community. From co-funding a coalition to come at sex trafficking, to advocating for public safety measures like park cameras and license plate readers. He has not only been a public servant but also a relentless advocate for East Paul Alto families. His work in supporting college track graduates securing funds for transient occupancy tax grants and addressing the city's homicide rate has transformed lives and set an example for effective leadership. But a ton of dedication to public service didn't begin on the council. Many of us know that he served as a case worker for Senator Josh Becker, a role that I preceded him in about a year and a half ago. Now being a caseworker requires an extraordinary sense of compassion. You are the first call for someone at their most vulnerable. Navigating systems that often seem indifferent, advocating for families and answering questions that don't always have easy solutions. It requires that your empathy cannot waver, that you meet every challenge with patience, perseverance, and heart. Now Tony has set the bar pretty damn high. In many ways he has been a blueprint for my own work. His ability to connect, to build trust, to push for results, even when the odds seem long, has served as inspiration. And today as we celebrate his accomplishments, it is clear that his work has left the lasting, at least the legacy, not just for East Palo Alto, but for all of us who strive to follow in his footsteps. Antonio, your leadership has shown us what it means to serve with integrity, humility, and purpose. Addition to the East Palo Alto City Council to the efforts and activities of San Mateo County in the peninsula community. You have not only learned well on the job, but you have also brought so many others alongside with you. The past four years, I've been very proud and honored to get to know you. I would like to call you friend. We've had some amazing conversations. I really appreciate you allowing me to help hold you just to support you, right? As a council member and a leader for our community. I want to share one of my proudest moments as the East Palo Alto residents occurred about the progress seminar where you and former mayor, councilperson Lisa Yarrow-Goshay were standing before a room of about 300 elected individuals. And you were debating or just sharing your hearts about why you would be best suited to serve on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. You both did an amazing job and much of your comments, the two of you, was really anchored in the fact that you wanted to represent East Palo Alto and take some of the values that we have here in East Palo Alto community and share them with San Mateo County. Our best practices are loved for one another. I was so proud of you both that afternoon and I think it's obvious San Mateo County was proud of you as well. Thank you for your service. Thank you for your continued involvement in humanity. I know you're gonna be an individual who we are here from. I would just encourage you to look at the ongoing council members and find a way to hold their arm up, right? I am no longer on Sequoia, Union High School District Board as a December 12. We get around with Pos for Conees to service. But we have a great community friend and sister, Dr. Maria Elena Cruz, who will be sworn in on tomorrow. I have four o'clock in the afternoon if you all wanna come see her at the district office. So as I stand here, I'm thinking about the last four years and this is for Antonio, and I was thinking about what can I do to honor you? So I made something for you. It's called Disruptor, a positive force of change that shakes things up to open up people up to change. And your name in Greek means ready to fight. And your name in Latin roots mean strength, courage, and admirable character. And that definitely describes you for Sequoia Union high school district, at least from my perspective, that you were a disruptor, that you were putting us in the news before we was ready to be in the news around diversifying leadership at our school, that you were there to have the offline conversations. I can talk to you about what's happening, what people are doing to address some of those needs. Although we walked away, agreed to disagree, we still kept fellowship, which is important to when you're doing the work of our community. And so what I'm happy to say that we have diversified our leadership of our school. We didn't let nobody go, but when positions were open and people were qualified to do the job, they were higher based off equitable and fair process. And so now we have our first Latina, Veronica Picneyy that is the principle of EPA, paired with an African American woman, Salita Okanuga. I think I said that right. Carla Chavez is the vice principal at Tide paired with Simone Kennell, which is a legend in doing principle ship. We have Karen Van Putin who is at Woodside. We have Tara Charles, which is at Sequoia. We have Stephen Redman who is the executive director of the middle college. We have Dr. Kenzo Salasi, which is our executive director in the superintendent's office doing people culture and collaborations. So he's helping us deal with those kinds of needs that we have. And there are so many others that are coming through our Grow Your Own program. So when I think about the disruption you cause, it also helped us to change and to look at ourselves. It wasn't the change agent, but it also was part of the work that we were doing. So I wanted to take this time to say thank you for going to our class, being the poet, sharing your story, showing up at meetings when I called you to say, hey, is it just me or do we need some other voices here to speak to the truth of the area E, whether it's East Pawel Hotel, Bell Haven, or North Fair Oaks. We had 100 people that was involved. 60 of them came to the event. We also this year had one of the students to go to Santa Clara University. She was in the contest. We had 10 people, but five showed up. And I was very impressed how you came up and talked to them and showed them how young people you know could speak and you congratulated them and you also was a judge which I thought was pretty great that we had one of our City Council members I mean I mayor to be the judge and they really like that as well so I want to really thank you for that. I don't have anything to give you except my words. Your words are more than enough. Thank you, Mattias. Well, I want to thank you and I wish you the best on your new adventures, whatever you into. We also might have another speech contest and I hope the new council member will stand up for the young people in this community like you did. Thank you very much. Next speaker Donna Rutherford. Good evening mayor, council members, staff. Glad to be here this evening. It's been a while. I just want to. I didn't prepare a speech, but I'll just speak from the heart which I do all the time. I remember when you came and I remember your campaigning and I said he's very enthusiastic, very motivated and the fact that you grew up in East Palo Alto was also amazing. As years progress I know that it has been challenging. I'm sure you learned a lot and this is amazing place to learn a lot. There's no place like East Palo Alto. We're very unique and so I just want to say as you continue your journey to maintain your integrity, be true to yourself and that waiver. Thank you so much for your service to this community. Next speaker, Regina Walles-Jones. Good evening, Mayor Lopez. It's been two whole years since I have been in this building and I am so excited to offer remarks to you tonight. I think I was for the youthfulness that you were bringing to this role. And I also remember thinking it's going to be really hard for him to do this while he's working on his PhD. And only you know what that journey was. But I can imagine that there were many sleepless nights. There were many times when you should have been studying or should have been preparing or should have been writing and instead you were doing things for the city. And for that I want to say thank you. I also want to say you made me proud, very proud on so many occasions. And I really do look forward to hearing your voice in bigger, national stages. You had a great race for a supervisor. And I'm excited to offer my remarks to our incoming supervisor. But there I could see that you really had a very strong voice. That as you continue to tune it, we will continue to hear it in this nation. Thank you for every minute of service. I'm not going to say what her comment about you as a kid you probably remember But from playing soccer so you know You really do make the city proud Product of East Palo Alto and folks need to know as great as you are you are not that uncommon There's some great young folks out there for sure that we have those DCs are planning throughout the United States of America But for you here now, I have to echo what my sister Regina said, bigger things. I wanted to say how incredibly proud I am of Tony. So for those of you that may not know that, I was Tony's kindergarten teacher. What year 1998? So you know talent. You do see it. And he just had this inquisitive mind, even as a young boy. And let me tell you, he would hug me and follow me everywhere in the room. He had a heart of gold and I just want to say that during this race, he... Well, actually, let me back it up a bit. When he found out I was diagnosed with breast cancer, he was at an duke. And somehow, I don't know how he found out, but he and his mother came to see me and I thought that was extremely beautiful that even after all the years had gone by he could still remember his kindergarten teacher who was probably a hundred pounds lighter and much more and I know but definitely the love that I have for my community, the children that I've taught and the love that my parents have put in my heart definitely comes from God you know the love that my parents have put in my heart definitely comes from God. You know, the love of God flowing through us in us throughout the community. And so I just wanted to say how incredibly proud. And it was really a turnaround circle, 360 moment when he helped me, given me advice and then when he sent me a text and he said, I'm so incredibly proud to vote for you, my sister. And so thank you so much. Everyone has already spoken beautifully, but I just want to say how incredibly proud I am of you. Love you. Thank you. In our last speaker, Adrian Brian. Thank you. Good evening, Mr. Lopez. I just wanted to say to you, I appreciate the surface that you've done to our community. I really admire. Sometimes you came out of fire, even from me, but every time you took it with such grace, you took it with just, I'm just going to sit back and go and listen with humility. I appreciate that from you. In fact, I really found it very, something I felt like I could learn from, right? You never even involve any personal privilege to explain yourself. You took it all with grace under that fire, even for me at times. So I am so grateful for your service to this community. I'm so interested to know and see what you're going to be doing outside of this community, whatever your next endeavors are. And I still want to, like I had mentioned, when you were first seated, I would love to speak to you and just learn about, you know, how you marched you to beat of your own drum, just like me. But also, I want to caution you to pay attention to some of the laws and things, I'm not sure who's in your camp. But if I can ever be a help to you, I will always be that angel on your shoulder Say maybe you should do it like this if you're open to it, but I'm gonna be watching I'm gonna be looking out for what you do and I might be that person throw you under the bus But I will always reach out to you to let you know here's what I see and maybe just how you may be able to Turned course, but again, I'm so impressed as a young man, how you have taken some of the fire you have received from the community with such grace. I just want to say what what an honor has been to be on the council and I want to echo what Stewart, you know, Stewart. One thing I always think about what Stewart says is the DNA of a city and we do have a DNA of a city. We have values. We have honors. We have of protecting the most vulnerable of being at just city like Leven said. And if there's any way I could have been a grain of salt in that journey, I'll go to sleep at night better. But really, I just wanna say what an honor it's been to serve you all, has not been perfect by any stretch of the imagination. I've learned so much and I'm sure everyone in the council agrees like Part of the beauty of being on the council is you get to see such a beautiful cross section of the community Like the folks you knock on the doors you meet the people you speak to even if they disagree with you Like the privilege and pleasure of being able to disagree and being able to debate like where is this city going and what what future Do we have and with development and housing like it's a privilege to do this. And I would not be here or not for Barbara Muton and Mr. Abrika and the people who founded this city 40 years ago. I'm incredibly humbled. I'll ever, I think to God, to my family, to my partner, to people who, and as well as my peers, who shoulders I also stand on. So thank you so much for this opportunity. I thank you for your grace. And so it's really very significant and very important that you decided to run, that you want, that you really got into it. And I know that we've had our disagreements, but it's all part of the politics when you have debates. You have issues. We're not going to agree all the time. But I'm definitely very proud to see you juggling different things that are very, very important. There are not easy to do, particularly when a previous generation didn't have that, for example. I mean, I don't know, but I assume that you might be the first one in your family to be getting a PhD. Is that correct? Yeah. So even that in itself, the fact that getting through that, getting to that point in and of itself. So you were juggling that and then you were juggling the politics and this palo Alto, which in my experience, we're a very lively political community, right? And so, I wanna congratulate you for having put in the time and the energy and represent in the city and your role as mayor and wish you the best. And I know also with your family, obviously we're always dealing with family issues, your job. So you'll probably get a little more rest I mean, obviously we're always dealing with family issues, your job. So you'll probably get a little more rest and now that you'll be off the council, but I'm sure that you're engaged in, you know, other things too. So, you know, I want to wish you the best of luck and I look forward to reading some of the things you'll be writing after your PhD. Have you finished there? You're almost finished. And I think that drive clearly means that we're going to be seeing much more of you. You know whether it's on a local stage whether it's on a national stage whether it's you know in some tenured professorship somewhere so I hope we wind up meeting on the being side or maybe the green side of Stanford's main library. I know you're a lot of lathe syrup, but we should make sure that we can get coffee at Cooper something since sometimes we're in the same hot. I'll say my former marks in a sec, but I just want to begin that conversation with that. And I want to open it up to similarly how we did to, for myself, the floor, for folks who want to extend your love, your praise, that she's going to continue to present us at the higher office. But for her time as a council member, I want to invite everybody to deliver some remarks. So can we go ahead and see who's here to speak for a miscarriage? Absolutely. Let me talk about your time on the council and what it has meant to me and my family. When I moved from Ohio, Ohio, you'll family adopted us and we hung out together often. And so got to know the spirit of who you are. And wanted to come up here and say thank you. You're the first one to do a protest that my youngest daughter went to. And that also led to her having her own protest for brother George Floyd many years ago, well, three years ago, five years ago, something like that right now. And I was like, where'd you get that idea? And I was like, I wonder if that was from Lisa. And so I just want to talk about your example for our family that you show up for us and many other students, whether it's giving out food, whether it's showing up into an empty auditorium of 20 people doing the Black Student Union, or whether it was calling our school district as the former SHHD trustee for area E. I could always count on you being present, asking the questions, checking in and making sure that we were okay. And speaking to our government classes, so people got to see you in the class, they got to see East Palo Alto between you and Antonio. And so it's just a real acknowledgement to you as well as Antonio that you guys have shown up for our school district for our kids to see what leaders look like in color. And so I'm excited about that. So Lisa, one day when you were running, you said something to me and you just said, I'm going to run my race. And I was like, man, that's a powerful statement. And you said, what God has for me, I firmly believe it is for me. So I'm giving you back your words because I think it means a lot. If you haven't been in public office, I'm looking at some of the OGs up here. I'm looking at Ruben and Brike, I don't know how y'all do it for years and years and years. People are nice. I'm like this. You know, people will give you all their burdens. They give you all the celebrations and the accolades at the end. But boy, they do not know what you go through in those closed sessions when you have to make the difficult decisions because you have information that you may or may not be able to share because of confidentiality. And so there are some things that people don't get to see that's that's you showing up and it's beautiful but they also don't know the the decisions that you have to make and that you're not on the team alone that you have to work and fellowship and in concert with other people. And so when I heard you say not on the team alone, that you have to work in fellowship and in concert with other people. So when I heard you say, I'm running my race, I decided I was going to give you something that you can put in your office because I know the border supervisor's got a lot of stuff going on. And you're stepping into it. That you can put on your show to say I'm running my own race in my own shoes So in her shoes. Thank you. I just want to say that. I have known you for many years. We served together. And I used to could. Say that I. Serve for 12 years. However. A lot of council members have surpassed that number now. Through the years that we've worked together on the council, I can say that you've always expressed yourself in a very well way down the earth. And you weren't afraid to ask questions and reach out, because that's one thing that as a politician, elected official, you have to know how to do that. I can say that you did that with humbleness and without fear and you told your story. I've seen you grow over the years and I'm very proud of you. And you know every time we campaign, we say just do what you need to do and don't worry about it because I know there were times when you were doubting and you felt like maybe enough wasn't being done or you know those thoughts that we have. But I always said, leaving God's hands, if he wants you to be somewhere he's going to put you there and that's the way I've always, when I run my campaigns, that's the way I felt. And I can say that it's, you're not going anywhere. I mean, we still have access to you. And absolutely, we know where you live. And so what I will say is that I hope that this community also goes to the meetings because I know I'm guilty of not participating enough in the board of supervisors meetings. But we all, you know, life moves and it's very busy, but I'm going to promise that I'm going to be there. You guys meet twice a month. So I'll probably make it once a month, but I can tune in virtually. So you know, I'm just saying we, I don't want to make promises. I can't keep that's never the person that I am, but I will be there to support the whole board of supervisors. Okay. So thank you for all of your service. I remember when I was first selected in 2018 and that night during reorganization the council at the time made me your vice mayor and I remember thinking to myself well it's either going to be amazing or it's going to be terrible but we're going to do it and I remember the gentleness and the care that you had as mayor at that time. And I remember feeling very lucky and honored to be serving as vice mayor in that moment. From that point forward, I've continued to watch you. And sometimes, obviously we've had disagreements. Every council member has disagreements. But what I appreciate about you always is a beautiful model to be able to disagree and still move forward in great collaboration as humans and I think that you model that beautifully. I am incredibly proud that you are moving on to be supervisor in San Mateo County and looking forward to all the great things that you will do there. And when you find yourself in circumstances like in abusive relationships or being brought up by a single mom sometimes, you don't see how your life could turn out to be so amazing and so special. And you have definitely just walked right through. A lot of people say fake it till you make it. But what I like about you is that it's not about making it till you make it. Say it till you manifest it until it happens. And I think that's what you have shown. And I love the fact that you have personally talked to my children, my two daughters, when I was here and you were actually in the mayor at that time when she was in the youth and government. Your words to her just I wanted to remind you that what you say stays with people's hearts and that the world continues to need strong, beautiful women like you and thank you for being the beautiful package that you are. I love you so much and we wish you so the best and I just loved that humility and yet that confidence that it's for you, it's for you. And you got this girl. Next speaker, Rovnillo Shadri. I'm a student at the Shore of Highland. I don't want to say you're truly an inspiration. When I decided to run for office, I kind of looked at you as a role model. I remember how it should meant to me when I was in middle school and high school and seeing you come to my middle school or I'm kind of talking to us at Call Shat and the Boenner Girls Club. And you were truly involved in the community. And I feel like you're a true model, what it means to be someone who's in service to the community. Because not only did you show up to the meetings, you came out to the community. You came to the baseball games, things of that nature. And I'm really proud to know you. And I'm glad that I had the opportunity to work with you. And I can't wait to see the good trouble you're going to make when you go to the board of supervisors. I just want to follow Neil and what are you saying about that good trouble because it takes courage and you show encourage over the years. We talk about some of the OGs on the council and disagreements and so I've definitely been on this side putting pressure on that side, but always we were in agreement around the DNA about what needs to happen here. And I can say this that when we think about the decisions you have to make in the small back rooms, you're never going to forget about where you're grounded at and who you're representing. So you're going to bring them in those rooms and I just want you to picture this Nice velvet rectangle with a brick inside of it that velvet brick I'm sure you're going to be smooth, but when you need to be firm You're going to be firm because you have that courage and I'm very confident and really looking forward to San Mateo County you and Nuelia having a lot of fun with those men. She's consistent across the board. I just want to clear something up. When I pulled up to the food line in my Cadillac XT6 and you gave me 12 dinners that weren't for me. You didn't ask any questions. You just piled it in. And they were from my neighbors who couldn't get out. So I want to straighten that out. Also, when I came to you about Peter, Pao, and the elevators were out for over six months, you got it done. We couldn't push that man in man when I was a bud. He was like Jack Binney, got all that money. And you finally got the elevator fix the man wouldn't put a floor in the elevator I had to come back to you next day there was a floor in there I mean how you gonna get on in an elevator and you can't ride in it but you did it and I appreciate that. When you listened, when I started getting involved more with the city and I wanted to be on the rent board, you said, yeah. Another one of your people who didn't know me from Adams Housecat looked up at me like I was a drift Rift earns it, no. But you said yes. You said yes every time because you know the value. You didn't have a underhanded agenda. And I appreciate that. And I would like, I told you before, I wasn't gonna vote for you because I wanted you to stay here. I said that, okay. Okay. I did. So there's so many little things, you know, over the years. And I just appreciate you being here. Okay. And I know where you live because the first four letters of Yolk Street is my name okay. I'm so honored to have you as my mom, my link sister, my former councilmember, Vice Mayor, Mayor and my upcoming supervisor. You have been such an inspiration for me and for Camden. I know all the hard work you put into everything you do. I know how hard it is for all the decisions you have to make. I know about the phone calls and texts that you get about kind of ridiculous things sometimes, but I know how you handle each situation. Like it's your top priority. And I just appreciate the integrity that you have shown throughout your political career. The integrity that you've had in your race, how gracious you've been. I know with anybody who reaches out to you who's running, you're so willing to help out, however. So the things that other people don't see and don't know about that I know about, I'm just so appreciative of who you are even when the door is closed. So yeah, just thank you for being a good motivation and thank you for continuing the work and the good fight on the next level. And I just wanted to give you your flowers physically. I was like eight or nine, and I remember canvassing for you. So I just wanna say thank you for always showing up and showing out literally since the day I was born. The intimacy of that relationship is desired, I think, by any parent to have their son or daughter to celebrate a parent who is dedicated their life to public service. You know, I was just talking to my colleague, our colleague Regina Wallace Jones, and just shared that Darryl Kohley had the song and he always said, when the music stops, that's when I have to live my song. When the band goes home, right? That's when I have to really put my work before me. And many people don't understand that behind the veil. At least if you've given 12 years of your life dedicated not only to the East Palo Alto and the residents therein but you have found yourself a student of humanity and you've found a way to really embrace all of San Mateo County in a way that prepares you for such a time as this. I am so confident and excited about your positioning, going to the county board as supervisors, well prepared, well equipped, right? But still with a lot of room for loving kindness and to care for others, right? It's a big task, but the East Palato community are so grateful that you're willing to continue to serve in this capacity. I like Donna Rutherford, who will make myself available in those big, beautiful chambers from time to time. But I hope you know that whenever you need for me Whether it's to listen advice just a laugh, right? Because you and I have spent so many times together in various rooms over the last 12 years And it's always a confident feeling for me when I walk in the room and I see you there, right? I know I'm in the right place, right? You are good people. We are proud of you. Excited for San Mateo County becoming a better county to live in just because you're gonna be a part of that leadership there, right? Go do your thing. Right. Next speaker, Perse Hill Hill followed by Adrian Bryant. I'm not going to cry. I'm not going to cry. So I'm Perr's Hill and I've known Lisa for about 40 plus years. So our families, we grew up in East Mowellto together. But I just want to share just a couple of my moments about you, which when behind every person like Lisa, you always have somebody that's when beneath her wings. So I'm always that person for her. And she'm always that person for her, and she's always that person for me, but she's in the forefront. I'll push her in the forefront. But one thing that stood out for one is that, from the beginning, she was there. She was in the room when I had Sierra Hill my daughter. Whenever there were floods in the small alto, I had a S.U.R.E. and Lisa, myself and Pastor Baines. We were up there on the dikes in our boots, watching water levels because our house is on the bank back there and it was flooded. So she was in the trenches. I remember a project we hope in the trenches, EHP in the trenches. The senior center in the trenches. So you are well paired for what God has for you when you said, and I don't know, well, 12 years ago, she mentioned to me, I think it was like in May or June. I'm gonna run for a city council. I said, oh, okay, like next year, she said, I'm not like this year, I was like, oh, like in November. She was like, yeah, I said, okay, whoa, what do you need? And I just remember that first time out, you needed money. We got our friends together. We were over at Wingstop and I'm just begging people for money not knowing what I'm doing, but just being able to support her because you are a good person. You have a good heart. I know your story. I lived your story with you. And I'm just so excited for what God has in store for you. You are going to continue to do amazing things. And I'm always going to be that sister that went beneath your wings, not in the forefront. But I'll be that went beneath your wings, some pride. I'm proud of you. We can next speaker Adrian Bryant. My family moved here in 1967. So I have lived East Palo Alto. I'm a product of East Palo Alto. It's in my blood. To the residents, to my family, friends, and ultimately to the staff, thank you for all that you've done and will continue to do. East Palo Alto is a small but mighty city. We have the staff that's doing the work that of large cities and we are very thankful and appreciative of those who sit there to make this look easy for us. So thank you. We really stand on your shoulders. To my colleagues, thank you. 12 years, four years. I just appreciated being here. Some of the things that I can remember, I remember being a council member. I was the mayor in I think 2015 when President Barack Obama was in office. And I had the ability to go to the White House, representing the City of East Palo Alto, sitting in the room where you see the yellow curtains on TV, listening to the president and the vice president and their wives talk to us. That is something that I will never forget. With that, I brought back my brothers' keepers, because we know that our community continues to need to be supported and lifted up. Youth commission is something that we need to continue to work on because our future is definitely in the youth. To my Camden, Cam Bam, I love you four years. Love you, you were born on the Vembers second just before the election and looking at him four years later. To my daughter, I am here today because of you. I don't think I was to this. But when I thought I didn't want to be an elected official and I said no, after being asked to run several times, it was because of your grace and your commitment to this city. You just said, Mom, if you're not at the table making decisions, someone else would make a decision for you. I trust your decision making and you can do it. You were the one person. I couldn't say no to. I admire you. Thank you for leading up. Oh, thank you for encouraging your mom. I know this is your journey. So I'm waiting for you to tag in and get up here on the dias. Right. Because I know that it is in you. There's an elected official that is in you and you bring so much insight to the work that we do. You know, there's policy, there's stats, there's numbers. But at the end of the day, there's a spirit to the city. And I can confidently say that Lisa go share represents that city with love and dignity. And I have all the confidence she's in her business to the best to the best the fullest on the board as a provider so it's been an honor Lisa I wish I had 12 years with you but I was in any pay those times but I appreciate your love your heart how much you lift up your daughter and your family and I'm real glad you're gonna represent us on the county so thank you for your time. Vice mayor. I also wanted to echo with everyone else that said, but I just wanted to point out that of those 12 years that you were in office, I have the privilege to be with you for two years. I also don't want to get emotional, but I felt that we jelt right away. And I really thank you for actually being very friendly and welcoming and for actually taking me under your wing. And I don't know, I was just there listening and trying to pay attention and taking notes as to how to proceed. So I just wanted to say thank you for being there for me. I'm going to miss you. And also, I just wanted to say that I'm very proud that under your leadership, alongside with the other council members, you did something with their help in the community's help that had never been done before. And I stayed out of the Board of Supervisors final race but as I have expressed to you already, anything I can do to help in your work. And I think all of us here in East Palo to do that to help you whatever way that we can in any capacity. So there are a lot of times over the 12 years that I think we teamed up on some things, because sometimes there's issues of particular interest or it is kind of false on us, but I definitely do feel when you join the council and a couple of years after that, I think you and I teamed up a lot with, trying to bring together the different groupings around senior services. And I think today we're in a much better place than we were before. And so I wanna thank you for that, because that's always been an interesting mind. But definitely, anyway, you know, we, that was one example of teaming up another thing. So definitely won't go into all of those, but I always have enjoyed working with you. And at some point, I do need to give you copies. So I, over the last two years, I took a whole bunch of pictures of you in Camden. I have to give him to Brittany too. But I just love that image, you know, of the nice, gentle, firm grandmother and the little Camden going everywhere trying to do everything and you just kind of steering him and letting him be, you know, who he is. And I put one scene I definitely appreciate a lot is that I always like to shake hands with with with little kids. So I remember going shaking his hand a few times and one time I was trying to shake in and he kind of like what are you doing you know and you said shake his hand so he shook my hand like well the power of the grandmother the love you know that that relationship so I'll turn over those pictures to you because some of them are really I thought they were pretty good. I followed you guys around with that you know in taking some pictures of it, that part. So anyway, so good luck in your next adventure. And I think our community will be well represented as well as the rest of the county because you are that kind of person. You're gonna look after everybody. So our recommendation tonight is simple. We request that you approve the 2025 City Council meeting schedule as outlined in your packet. This schedule has been drafted in an alignment with our press practices and operational needs as specified in a resolution. And so as you can see the regular meetings. So the to provide context for new council members, East Pawel Auto's municipal code requires the city council to set its meeting and dates times annually. Regular council meetings are held on the first and third Tuesdays of each month. Additionally, as in previous years, we recommend recommending an August recess where no meetings will take place that month. So to ensure a thorough review and a timely adoption of our budget, we've scheduled two special budget meetings. These dates are Thursday, May 13th, and Thursday, May 27th, both at 6 p.m. This allows us to meet our deadline of adopting our city's budget before the June 17th regular council meeting. And one of our most important processes of the year is a strategic priority setting, which lays a foundation for annual work plan. This year we will begin with a team building overview session on Saturday, February 1st. This session will focus on team building allowing council members to get to know each other better, while also providing a general overview of the strategic priority setting process. Following this in March 8th, we will be having our strategic priority session. During this session, the council will have an opportunity to outline and finalize their strategic priorities for the year, aligning on goals, initiatives and future developments. Apologies. What matters most is a shared commitment to the betterment of our community. I am hopeful that this new council will build on the accomplishments of its predecessors, setting aside personal egos to collaborate and address the critical issues facing our city. While we might not always agree on every matter, it is essential that we foster meaningful dialogue that unites rather than divides our community. I look forward to working closely with this council in the coming months to ensure that we continue to serve all our residents of East Paul, together we can make progress and reflect the diverse needs and aspirations of this remarkable community. And we, I think that we have a good council, a good council members on the dies that we will always try to keep in our forefront our constituents before we make any decision. And I also wanted to reiterate that I believe that we will also be leaning into the most experienced in our staff, in our council, and also keeping in mind what the constituents want from us. So thank you so much. And with that, if it... I do have a council report, if I may, or... Yeah, I just want to report on a couple of events that I attended. Two were, give away, toy giveaways. And one of them was in the building silver by the hotel. And it was definitely a new, I saw a new sort of way of doing something like that, you know, giving toys to some of the families that are more in need. And it was a great collaboration between the police department, live in peace, youth community services, a couple other cool line kids, a couple other organizations. And they, you know, I was able to go a little bit and I was going to go and volunteer, but there were a lot of volunteers, so I mostly just stayed out of the way with my brother, but they probably close to 800 children received some gifts. So that was very good. And then in the afternoon, there was another one done by Widdell and Park, done by 7-11. That one I was able to volunteer for a couple of hours, just kind of, you know, there's always need for people in big events. So that was also a great success. I don't know how many, but at least the time I was there, a good 200 children were also doing that. So, you know, just a reminder that those things are very important because there are so many families that do need some help. The other event was on December 10th in this chambers, some of us did organize a workshop on No Your Rights, Konoska Sus derechos, particularly geared towards the immigrant community that I anticipate many of us, I'm an immigrant myself, we anticipate it's gonna be very hard for many communities across the country, maybe in the Bay Area, it won't be as difficult. But in East Palo Alto, we wanna let people know that the city does have a resolution that prohibits staff and the police from investigating anyone, acting as immigration agents. So it was the beginning, and we're gonna be conducting some trainings every month in order to just have people be knowledgeable about their rights. And it's not only the immigrant community, but really, you know, in reviewing those rights every US citizen needs to review the rights Constitutional rights. So anyway, I just want to report on that that it was also a successful event.
