I am delighted this evening that we have Ms. Nesa Herrera with us to walk us through the CRA and Economic Development Update and bring you news of the happenings in Oakland Park, Ms. Herrera. Thank you. Good evening, Sierra Board Chair, Vice Chair and Board Members. Nesa Herrera, Sierra and Economic Development Director. As always, it is a pleasure for me to share updates on new businesses, projects, vibrant activities, and initiatives to support our business community. Several new businesses have joined our Sierra, including PMG cleaning services, full cell marine offering marine engineering services, RTCORE and interior design company, dynamite dog training, better wellness clinic, which offers gyro-practic and physical therapy services, thin-food service, which represents leading manufacturers of food service equipment, furniture, and supplies. And Gigi says hello, a unique jewelry store that recently opened in our downtown. Even though this business is outside of our CRA, we cannot leave aside the excitement around the reopening of my guy. I am very excited to announce that highly anticipated businesses, such as Red Sea and Tripping Animals, will be opening soon. So stay tuned for the great opening dates. And I'd also like to take this opportunity to provide you with an update on the build out for Voodoo Brewery. As you can see on the pictures, construction is progressing steadily. Staff from CRA and building services have been working closely with the contractor, the business and property owners to expedite this process. Turning to redevelopment, we are pleased to share that the releasing of residential units at the Sky Building has begun. For more information, please contact the leasing website or reach out to the leasing team via phone or email. Infrastructure improvements, such as the West Dixie Site Streets Project demonstrate our commitment to revitalization. Enhancements like road resurfacing, installation of crosswalks, planter boxes, bike racks, upgrades of drainage show that we promote safety and accessibility while we enhance the visual appeal of the West Side of our downtown. Special event season is in full force. On November 16th, we had our last OPA of the year, which featured live artistic performances. And just this past weekend, we had Small Biz Saturday, which was hosted by two local business owners, Marisa Falls from the Wondershop and Kelsey Kern from Rehouse in partnership with the city of Oakland Park. This event featured 60 vendors with over 3,000 people in attendance. I'd like to take this moment to thank Cesar Gonzales, my partner in the Sierra in Economic Development Office. Our partners, our downtown business partners, our BSO and our staff from the Parks and Leisure Services and public works for their support in the planning and execution of these events. Our events are not only fun, but also a critical tool to drive food traffic to our local businesses and establish Auckland Park as a destination. For this reason, I'd like to invite you for our holiday village, which will be, which will be taking place this Friday and Saturday. And make sure you don't miss out the three lighting ceremony on Friday at 6.30. Mark your calendar for next year's OPA, which will take place on February 15th, we're calling artists and vendors to participate. An attention, aqua park restaurants and bars, taste of aqua park is coming up in February and registrations are open. So if any business is interested in participating at any of these events, they may reach out to our special event team. We're also excited to announce our partnership with the Urban League of Rourke County for entrepreneurial training and business support to foster a more resilient business community. The Urban League of Broward County offers a variety of programs, including this small business bootcamp. The registration deadline has been extended to December 13th. We have been promoting this opportunity on all of our communication platforms and we appreciate your help in getting the word out so that our local business can take advantage of this opportunity. In the first quarter of 2025 we'll be hosting two signature government fast-track programs in partnership with the Abrawa County Office of Small Business and Economic Development. One is the intentional entrepreneur for aspiring entrepreneurs and the listening to your business for established businesses. Why are these partnerships important? important because they allow us to leverage established curricula and optimize resources as we continue to find ways to better support our business community. The last at the last downtown partners meeting we introduced a refreshed format that add value to businesses through networking, educational content, and knowledge sharing. Participants benefited from actionable insights that Riste Sekulowski, the owner of Mandoleros, and successful restaurant tour, shared about his journey. Our guest speaker, Jane Bowling, former mayor, successful entrepreneur and business mentor, provided an overview of the Corporate Transparency Act. And I like to remind all businesses, including our honorable Vice Chair, Ernst, that the deadline to file the beneficial ownership information is coming up and it's January 1st of next year. We have an exciting lineup of topics for 2025, so please don't miss out our January 14th downtown partners meeting which will take place at Maggie's favorite and will feature guest speaker Wendy Lieber founder of Content Bacon and she'll be talking about how entrepreneurs can create content to market their businesses. I'd like to call attention to feature business resources, the adventure mentoring team, and career source, Broward. You may learn more about these resources and more by signing up for our business news letters and connecting with us through any of the avenues that you see on the screen. He's their after-thaning job with this Entrepreneurship bootcamp is necessary We do got to get it out. I know it's a trial run You know, we trying to see how the partnership is going to go with the Urban League. The message needs to get out to our businesses. So I will advocate for them to try to sign up. Thank you for extending the deadline at December 13. This is going to be part of my 500 plan to create businesses and job, high-paying jobs in our city in four years. And this is where it starts. Proper education, business plans, financial plan, and marketing plan. And we're gonna cut this all throughout the county and bring businesses here in local parts, especially downtown area. So I am enthusiastic about this, and I will promote it. I'm looking at the sky building. I see, could you go back to slide five because I didn't see my presentation about the amount rental. Is it for rental businesses or studio living? What is the amount on that? The amounts that you'll see on the screen are for residential units only so that includes studios, one bedrooms, two bedrooms, and live work units. So we'll go back to that. Okay thank you. Also the career source browser, can you spend on it? I love that because they have grant money. That way, direct the sky could add on to that $5,000 by helping our employees go after some type of extra funding from the career source, Broward, because they do provide workforce development grant assistance. So that'll be a plus. And that's money that they don't have to pay back. It's free money. So thank you for having that partnership with CareerSource. But that said, thank you, Mayor. Thank you, Commissioner. Commissioner? Thank you, Mayor. Thank you, Mr. Error, for that nice presentation about the businesses. And I heard on Saturday, the small business, there was yoga out in the middle of Main Street of over 20 people were there and we were at the Empire Near House mayor and I and someone told me that and I just thought I just thought that was just fantastic. They came out early in the morning just for yoga. And then to see that there are over 3000 people in attendance for small business. That is awesome because we know that small businesses are the cornerstone of each city. And I just I like to hear that and thank you for what all you do. On on connecting with the businesses, helping them promote themselves. So I appreciate that. And again, I'm thrilled and thrilled that so many people are choosing Oakland part for their business. Thank you so much. They talk to me. The businesses tell me they know you by name. Yes. So I mean it's a good thing because since I've served on this day, I have a person in your position. I've never heard business owners call that person by name. And so that means that your presence is, you know, you're there, you're present, and that certainly makes a big difference. And enhance in our businesses and their sustainability in this city. It's all about the small businesses. They are the heartbeat of this city. And I'm excited to see that Urban League is offering that training. I'm excited that we are partnering with Urban League, as the commissioner said, career source, bringing these resources to our businesses is paramount. We say we support our businesses, the proof is in the pudding. So thank you for all that you do, and I want to thank all of those new businesses who who have chosen Oakland Park as their place to do business. We're very grateful. Thank you. You know, I just like to say the only yo-gives to a Saturday and won't was picking up the remote control and decided what college football games I was gonna watch for the rest of the afternoon. Hey, as far as the new businesses welcome to Oakland Park and thank you so very much for investing here. It means a lot to us. We as residents need to make sure we're supporting our local businesses. Try not to order as much off the internet, actually, order things from our local businesses. So thank you, Ms. Herrera, Mr. Gonzalez, you guys are rock stars here in Oakland Park, and as the rest of the commission was saying, I can walk into any business on Main Street, and they'll say, hey, Nasa was here, or hey, Cesar was here. So thank you for being active. Thank you for understanding the job. Our job up here, improve the quality of life, improve the aesthetics of the city. Their jobs as businesses offer great products, friendly service and smile. So people come back, reasonable prices, and it's gonna be a win-win for all of us. So again, thank you, great presentation. Haryndicated looking forward to opening the residential components early next year There are also commercial opportunities available, both in the live work as well as in the commercial bay areas, which can be configured and built out in according to the specifications of a tenant. And their leasing agent is being very aggressive to try to find tenants. Some of the ideas and possibilities are very exciting. We work closely with them on a weekly basis and Brad is meeting weekly with their contractor styles and their team to ensure that they stay on track. Everybody is aware that the hurricane threw a little bit of a curve to FP&L. So the addition of that walkway that we have been so looking forward to was delayed. And as a result of that effort that may end up pushing back a little bit the timeline. So we'll keep you posted about that.
