you you The City clerk, please call the roll. Member Erwin. Here. Member Perkis. Here. Member Kavanaugh. Here. Member Elkind. Here. Member Brumel. Here. Chair Lyman. Here. If there are any citizens who wish to speak on matters pertinent to the city, please approach the podium You may address the youth council during this time. You don't have anybody We will now close public participation Is there a motion to adopt the youth council for task force minutes from the regular meetings held on Thursday May 1st 2025? I move to adopt the minutes. Second. City clerk, please call the roll. Member Irwin. Yes. Member Perkins. Yes. Member Kavanaugh. Yes. Member Elkheim. Yes. Member Brumel. Yes. Chair Leiman. Yes. Thank you. We will now open the floor for continued discussion on ongoing projects. Are there any updates regarding the projects that are in progress? I feel like we're good. We will now transition to the next agenda item. The project presentation for the Joint Youth Council and City Commission meeting. I, so I guess we can just look through it and if you guys see something that needs to be changed just let me know. Okay. So is this felt right? I think that's good. Yeah, it's the same word. Can I make a really small suggestion? Sorry. Yeah. Could we just like get rid of this face after a comment? Or before a comment, sorry. Oh yeah, yeah. Yeah. Good call. Thank you. It kind of bothers me that it's not even. Like, can we just like make a space between member Kyla? Or like, yeah, like there. Oh, I see what you mean. There we go. I feel like that even looks a little better. If you want to make it look a little like... I'm just saying, everyone. Oh, no. Yeah, I think that looks good. Okay. I'm loving this brick wall type. Do you all know? I think it really gives the vibes of this place. Yeah. Okay. Thank you. That's good. You're not changing, I don't think. Okay. Thank you. That's good. You're not changing, I don't think. Okay. Should we add to this thing that we're going to like paint it and stuff? Sorry. I think we're doing paint it. It's like in the middle paragraph, it says we're going to the Babe Jane Center to decorate. Oh, okay. Because by the time we do it, they will have been decorated. Yeah. So, I guess we can, we'll update it with photos once we decorate it. Okay. Should we add the date that we're going to decorate them? Yeah. With the date that we did in going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. I'm going to go to the next one. 20th, right? Yeah. May, I thought it was a 20th. 20th? Yeah, I thought it was a 21st. It's that Wednesday, right? Yeah. May 21st. Yeah, I thought it was a 21st. It's that Wednesday, right? Yeah. Yeah. Okay. All right. Is everything look good on this six? No. Yeah. The? Oh, guys, I really need to get my nails done. It's kind of messing up here. Are we good? I think that's good. Yeah. Do we want to add in the last bullet point, like maybe say, and the youth led? Or do we want to just keep it as like things that we know that we can provide? I think adding it and it would be good. Do we know of any potential examples or do we not want to put things in the realm? Am I a friend that does the permanent jewelry? Yes, Lila. I also feel like you'll get like elementary kids who are like, oh my gosh, like by my painting. And also, a week of another thing for that is maybe talking to the schools themselves on setting up a tent and then like having kids self-stuff like at the tent. So it's not like one kid per tent, if that makes sense. Yeah. This one look good. Yeah. Yeah. For the first bullet point, it says these civil counsel met to give a proclamation. It sounds like we're also doing it. We're doing our, we're just there as participants. I think that's what we talked about last time where they want to see if we can have some of us and some of the people from the school go to the proclamation. So it'll be in the past by the time we do this presentation, right? Yeah, it'll really turn these after. Not what I meant. Like it says to give a proclamation, like we're a part of the proclamation itself, not just attendees. Well, we've got that we attend to attend the proclamation. Okay. I don't know. What are we, like like I know we're taking photos with the life jacket and stuff, but we're not really, what are we doing with it or? I think we put it there. Well, it would be like it's just a photo opportunity. So to just support the youth voting day, Mr. Franek would just have you guys stand up there without gonna photo opportunity. Good publicity is. Do we wanna add the date that we did that? Yeah. Let's make 17 Saturday. Oh did we ever like, don't we like need to let students know that this is happening? Did we ever like do a poster, anything? I did discuss it with a few of my classes in there, the Boat and Safety students in there, but this was kind of a chaotic meeting with all this testing that was going on in a lot of strange lot of strange skills. So I'll push it a little harder. Abby said she can make a post for it, so maybe we'll get her a little nudge to make it. Yeah. We can get her a little reminder. Obviously this is up to the club mentors and stuff, but do we want to offer students a service hour for coming out so we can get more participation? Oh, I think that's fair. I can ask if NHS wants to do that for any like last minute hour. Yeah, so the same good standing. That's good. Yeah. That's something that I could provide to like as a written out. Yeah, yeah. Was the second bullet point from this year? Or because I know we did that. Yeah, I don't think that's from I thought this was from last year when they did like the dodge ball turn. Yeah, stuff like that. Okay, so don't want to delete the slide. Yeah, I don't think we need. Well, we added in this lead to the youth. Yeah, I don't think we need this side, because we already talked about the youth let festival and the other side and none of the other stuff apply to us. Is this so? Yeah. Looks good. Yeah, yeah. Are we missing anybody that anyone? Do we want to add the names of the Coast Guard, or like the two people we know? So Walter Franick W, A-L-T-E-R. Franick F, I'm going to give it a S-R-A-N-E-K. I thought it was Frank, like F-R-N-K-E. I could be very frank. I know, I was very frank. Yeah, I think it's that. I spelt it wrong last year then Do we want to like make that instead of a separate bullet point just like the the way that the police chief is It's like Walter Franek and others. Yeah, or you could put like with Coast Guard Ziller after his name. Oh Yeah That's good. Perfect. I think that looks good. All right. Then do we want to like run through the slides and assign who's going to speak? Sure. Okay. Do we have enough slides for each person to do one? We have seven. There's seven and seven of us. All right. Seven. Oh, perfect. We have the interest list. Yeah. I don't want someone to only get the interest line. We can break it up. We can be introducing the Youth Council as a whole, but hey, we're here from Eastburg Beach High School, blah, blah, blah, blah. Yeah. And then saying. I mean, all like Sarah names like hi, my, hi, I'm hi, my, hi, I'm Piper. Yeah, I guess we could split the slides up. There's a lot of information on every slide. Okay, so you want to start at the top? Yeah. Yeah, I guess we could split this slides up. There's a lot of information on every slide. OK, so you want to start at the top? Yeah. Do you want to start with that? Yeah, I feel like I could maybe introduce it and then maybe Abby as. All right, if you guys wanted to, I could introduce and do the mission statement, then you guys could do all the projects. Send it like breaks it up a little. Yeah. All right. Do you want to read it or now you're fine? I don't think I can meet you too. I'm just making sure. All right, here would like to speak on this one, the winning libraries. I'll speak on this one. Wait, so like, are we just going to split it up a little bit? We could do like, yeah, I mean, I feel like, because then yeah, I think we'll have to split it up a little bit or else not. Maybe someone can talk about like how the locations and how we're having people donate books. And then someone talk about how like we met with the kids to decorate it. Okay. Yeah, I could. We could always like, like if we have anything like that we want to add like from the, from actually doing it with the, like going to paint them. I don't know what to say. This is our experience. Yeah. So whoever like maybe like if one person like who wants to say that can write up something and then add it. Yeah, just it's always good to elaborate with your own. Yeah. So we've got somebody that kind of explains the why. The information is up there. So we always want to say, this is why we decided to go forward with this. and then somebody could say in our experience, this is what we did and we took this and we gained this. So maybe like Eden could explain the why since you were here last year when we like decided to do the project. And then maybe like Maya could explain why we want to get involved in the community and actually go paint with them. So we can break it up like that. OK. And I feel like the festival was pretty much just because I do. So do you want to take the lead on that one? Okay. You good with that? Okay. Voter safety. That's always been Peyton's vibe. You want to... Okay. Kylo was here for the origin of the shark. Do you want to do that? Sure. And you can kind of like explain why you guys want to do that a little bit since you were there. Yeah. And then Abby can do closing statement and like think everybody if that sounds good. And you're going to send us the power? OK, perfect. And then we can, everyone can like look through them. I'll let Abby know that she's presenting that part. Do we want to run through it? And like actually talk about her? Are you guys good? I'm seeing. I don't think we have time to run through it. If we just need to go to the quick one. Mr. Wade, do you want to be Abby? Sure. Okay. So I wonder how I should start this. Like it. How did it? Will um... I don't know how to do that. I don't know how to do that. Sure. Okay. So I wonder how I should start this. Like how do I- Will it be the format of this year? Will it be us coming up to the podium to discuss it? It will be okay. Because I know sometimes it's like superimposed, but it's balanced, but definitely coming up as a part of the agenda. All right, so you definitely want to be a like state thank, you know, address the commission. Thank you city commission for. Okay, so I can say something along lines of like, thank you city commission for having us here to propose our youth council task force 2025 something along those lines. Yep. Okay, I would like to introduce our youth council task force. I'm your chair, Piper Layman then do you guys want to like go through? Are we gonna be at that podium? Yeah, we will be. Okay. So are we all individually coming up to the podium and saying our name? Yeah, I'll just say it then. Yeah, our vice chair, Abby MacArthur. Yeah, I could say something like You like you can introduce us and then when we each do our slides like we can do our work before we say it. Yeah. Member Eden Brumel, member Peyton Elkind, member Jessica Perkis, member Kyla Kavanaugh, and member Amaya Erwin. Our mission statement, so we like to review and evaluate problems facing the youth in the city. Facilitate neighborhood meetings, which with youth to discuss problems, needs, and suggested improvements for our community. Meet with the city staff and directors to collaborate on ideas, discuss issues, and concerns, and needed improvements to benefit New Sumerna Beach. And then we present recommended improvements with our projects at the City Commission meeting. I don't know if I can like, I'm since a submission same I feel like I can't have to like read it as it. Yeah, I'm looking at it. Yeah, the other mission thing could be like keep it. Last year we proposed our idea regarding the lending libraries. We met with, do I just read that? Like should I just read that? I feel like you should give us, like, give your own take on it of, like, why we wanted to, if that's okay, to make it a little bit more like. I can do that. I'm just going to stutter. Okay. So hold on. Guys, this isn't, like, actually, how I'm going to say it. I'm just like, brain-spinning. No, yeah, we're just brain-spinning. So I can say, we wanted to provide more... Like... So hold on, guys, this is actually how I'm gonna say it. I'm just like, breaking down. No, yeah, we're just brain-sounding. So I can say like, we wanted to provide more, like reading opportunities. Yeah, you could say something like, last year, our Youth Council Task Force wanted to provide a way, provide a way for students at home to easily access books if they don't have like, transportation libraries And especially like you can you can also talk about like oh going into summer like yeah schools out so you can't like kids don't have access to like their school library every day so like being able to just get books easily like at certain parks they're at. And then like maybe after you do that little like intro then you could say the first like paragraph for it it says, are you like talked with? Where am I letting my take off? I would say, like, stop at the part where you are telling them that we met with the maintenance director and then constructed the two out of four libraries and then let Maya take over with this year, like they were built and now we're trying to we went to the Babe Game Center that you have them and who is saying locations? Probably you I would say. Yeah and even just like for information for you if you want to say it so I got I did an exact count and it's 21 books and they're all pretty much the self-help and teen readers so they all are geared towards the youth youth right as of now. If you just want to say that, that's our starting point. We've got seven, you target a YouTube books in there. Okay, okay. Wait, hold on. On here it says we were able to get two of the four libraries, but it says three confirm locations. Do we have three libraries that we're doing or only two? Three. Three. So you can just put, we just want to see. Or is it constructing three just to erase all that and just put three libraries? Okay. three of the libraries Okay, excellent. Yeah, perfect. Oh Me Okay, do we want to like restart? Yeah, you think okay Last year our youth council proposed the idea of adding Incorporating lending libraries into news for an each. We wanted kids to have access to reading materials when they don't have access to transportation, sort of putting them in more youth-dominated areas, such as the Riverside Park, the 27th Avenue Park, and the NSP Sports Complex. We met with maintenance operator, director David Ray, to the learning libraries and the city employees have offered to assist in constructing three of these libraries. We are using Newsmeard Rich High School to gather some starting books and we have 21 youth based books. And then Maya, I think this is you. We met with Rob Salazar to set up a date to meet with the kids at the Babe James Center to decorate the lending libraries. And we met with the kids to decorate them on May 21st, which we painted them. There will be, we'll probably take photos and there will be photos on the slide. you can kind of like point out stuff on the slide that's specific. Maybe you could say something about like the youth council wanted to get engaged with the community. Yeah. And like involvement. Wait are we allowed to like write something that we can say like okay. Yeah I just like keep it with you and bring it up to the podium. Yeah, wait, are we allowed to do that? Like read from something? Okay, okay. So I'll just like write off something to say so that way like it sounds better. Okay. And then this one, how should I say like why we wanted to do it or read from them? I feel like this is your thing like you know the why behind this you like you don't have to just directly read off this like you kind of go on a tangent And then if you want to come back to it and kind of just be like oh here's some ideas of stuff Yeah, and this is like the due future project that we discussed we want to move forward with Developing this youth led and just get the why you know? There's student empowerment or student business owner empowerment to like have practice in the Give can for an opportunity to have like a showcase the use of Maria youth and their entrepreneurial Ideas and business ideas and get them linked into the community. I just want to, it's up to you. If you don't, if you want to just like do, I'd like to think on it more so I have like your concise thing because I'll start stuttering like insane. If you want to prepare something to like Maya said, like an actual paper to read when you come up it might be easier to. A lot of do do that when they come up here. They'll have a prepared statements so they can make sure they can do a nice and concise and and Did last year did we like decide on Like what was like youth didn't we say it was like the Saturday or the Friday or something like youth voter safety day like specific I think. Um, I think it's still, I think the date is still May 17th, I believe that. None of that's this year. Um, it was like, it was like a day of the week of it. Oh yeah, because we did the proclamation. Was it the first Sunday or the first, like, I'm trying to imagine what it was. I feel like it was the Tuesday after Memorial Memorial Day because that is Boater Safety Week. I feel like we should know this. I do have it in my paperwork. I just didn't get okay. Just whenever you find in your paperwork let me know just so I can like tell them like did that last year. Okay. And then this year, the youth council met with the mayor and the Coast Guard auxiliary to attend the annual proclamation for voter safety day and present the newly funded life vest that the Coast Guard auxiliary was able to get. This happened on Saturday, May 17th in front of the Brandon Center. Our, the purpose of our attendance at the Proclamation helps to support youth voter safety in New Samarna because it's getting to summer and voter safety is a very something we're passionate about because youth and voter, yeah, whatever. Yes. But in the future, we plan to host an awareness meeting for voter safety at New Samarna Beach High School in the following years. And we hope to expand on that and be able to get high school students in a voter safety class so they're able to get their voters permit or license. Should we add the photo we're going to take with them here? Yeah. OK, I want to ask about this too, because I know that a few of them had their own individual reasoning and over the years they've come to talk to us about it. So I think you just lies and midget that wanted her second statue to be close to the first one. Yeah. They're dating., that'll be funny to say, I guess. And May and Vaz was a recent new summer graduate. OK. Yeah, I'll have to, because there's so many names, I'll probably have to make a list to prepare some things. I probably won't forget all the names. But. And the break, I'm pretty sure they're all very local artists. Yes. Maybe you can just say, oh, they all had their own reasoning for the some specific ones are. And then just expand a little onto them if you don't know total info about all of them. Yeah, you can even just be like, youth council got the opportunity to meet and get to know local artists and stuff like that. This would be, yeah, this is, in just saying, this would bring the total 10 shark statues in the community, which is something that's pretty cool. I mean, that's definitely something that people come check out. Yeah, yeah. Okay. You could also talk about like with this, because isn't like Canal Street now like the art district or something? Am I in the art district? Oh yeah, so you could kind of expand like, oh, like this adds on to like the art that's like now like now is the art district and part of that is like from these sharks. Yeah, that's smart. Okay. And Abby. And Abby can go through this. Yeah. It's not too hard. You can do business with that help from everyone. Here is a list of people that we've got Russian and we want to pay recognition too. Yeah, it's a really good impression. Yeah, it's really good. All right. Perfect. Does anybody have any? Okay, we're going to add. I thought there used to be like a shark statue picture on the shark statue page. Maybe we could find that and put it on so they know what we're talking about. It's a reference to our shark statue just in case. I know I almost felt like on the night of the A-s meeting, I almost felt like I've got to get around that one. It was out in front. I was like, y'all just so nice and everything. Oh, the shark. Oh the F8, the F9 and F9. I was thinking not only what I was like, oh, there's a shark. Like, okay, so we can add, we can just insert a picture. Yeah. We have the car. She said there's one on the city website too. And then voter safety, we're going to get a picture, insert, youth, flood, festivals, just a proposal. And then we're going to do pictures at the little live, lending libraries. Global action, yeah. Yeah. OK. Anything else anybody else? No? OK. As there's no further business to discuss, we will adjourn this meeting at 4.26 p.m. All right. Short and sweet. Good job. Sure and sweet.
