Order April 16th meeting of recreation cultural support. Roll call. Here. Here Here you are Here. You are. Here. Sorry. for the consummating side. This is part of the adjustment. Okay, sorry. First, real edge of night. Council meeting so I think this is part of the adjustment. Okay, sorry. First, realtor of night, I guess approval of minutes from the January 15th meeting. I make a motion that we approve the minutes from the January 15th meeting of this year. I'll second. All in favor? Aye. year. All second. All in favor? Hi. All opposed? Old business. I feel like we're probably going to go over the events that we just had. So, right, later in the, OK, I don't have any old business. I'm just old. All right, new business. So we have a beautification award nomination that I submitted for a neighbor on a brelitzry. I can give you the packet you can see. I wrote like a little write up about it. I guess I can do a shorter summary for you guys. He's done a lot of like landscaping. There's a lot of vibrant flowers and palm trees And he has added like a lot of light Scaping so like at night. It's really really beautiful. You can see the photos But I think nice the one Binch in the corner. Yes, yeah for the kids. Yeah, so the reason I wanted nominate him, not only did I really like what he's done, I mean, he's a neighbor that I personally know, but he also, he built the bench for the kids so they don't have to sit on the ground. Little off the ground, one. Yeah, and it's like a nice size one, you know? And then he also has like a zip line and like a trampoline and like a clubhouse and all of it and he Like is very welcoming like all the kids know that they can play at his yard and like it's not a big deal Like it's really nice. It's I feel like he's done like a really nice thing for them because they're just sitting there You know, so and that bus every single school, every age group. So I think he's done such a really nice thing. No, I didn't tell him. How long is this hip life? And where does it go from? It's just like one side of his yard to the other. The cross 30. Yeah. Okay, what I mean it? It's back here. It's like a. I was in backyard. It's like on the side. So he's a really long lot. His backyard backs up to a canal, so he really doesn't have a backyard. It's a really all-side yard. And so you kind of. It's visible from 30. Yes, you can see everything. You can see the clubhouse, they have a slide, they have everything. My thing is not seeing it is my thing is when he's not there if somebody's gonna get on Yeah, no, and it's not like we're gonna promote it as somewhere for him to for people to do that I just think what he's doing is a really nice kind of stands out Anybody spend time under yard makes it look 100% better. Yeah. And this guy, I mean, I've always noticed this guy's properties. Yeah. So it's really good. I love the lights, I love. Yeah, the hardscape. And it being a corner lot and very visible. And it takes pride in what he's doing. Obviously, you've got a considerable amount of money involved. I can tell you that. Yeah. Between the palms, it's definitely done nice. Interesting about it. And there's a lot of yards or homes on the street that don't want, they line their driveways with stuff so you can't park. And you can, it's not accommodating for parents that are picking up their kit. You get neighbors that are like, get out of here and you get other neighbors who are like, pull on into the driveway, it's okay. And Jim's just very kind with everybody. So I think it's a- Well if they pull on the edge of my yard, they have to call it record to get them out. Oh no. You know, it's like a ditch drop off there. So I kind of thought he was worthy of it. So I don't know, are we voting on that? I was gonna say, do we need to vote on that? Or can I just present it? Say. get dropped off her. So I kind of thought he was worthy of it. So I don't know, are we voting on that? I was gonna say, do we need to vote on that? Or can I just present it? I did also as a reminder, I need to know as a rule that we may as we have an understanding of the submit. Okay. So let's see what's in there. Okay. Perfect. Historical preservation. That kind of thing, because we think the historical preservation. We've got plenty of chairs. church and she's got some interesting historical notes and she's also the gentleman and psych starter who showed up at the office to ask about some things and she had feelings like they wanted to do something. One guy wanted to start and the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, the other, or direction or direction or there's another thing they do with There's another thing they do with the museum is they need people to scan the paper documents and stuff like that. The historical documents onto the computer, put them on file so people can look them up easier that way. They were always looking for volunteers to do that. Where were they doing that? Well that was, they said all those archivists down in New Smurna behind the old courthouse. In that place they are always looking for people that can stand that stuff. Yeah. That's time consuming. Yeah, we have a lot of things, somewhere documents and somewhere, just all kinds of art class, and history, there are in closets and calculus around the office. Yeah, there is a lot of documents down there. I've seen so. So are you looking to like put together a group of people to work on this? Or did you are you looking to do an event around it or you're not sure? There's just all this energy around them, but you should try that out. Okay. Maybe. Maybe. Maybe have them like Andrea mentioned come to a rec or meeting and possibly collaborate and get direction on what they feel from them. They would benefit the city. That's what I was going to say. Ideas from them of what they would like. Maybe just direction and possibly helping them planning. Yeah. you mentioned Joanne, Sykes. And I know this is silly, but immediately my mind went to growing up. Joanne used to have all of these puppets. There were birds, one of them was bird-jewd. I will never forget. And she used to do like shows and stuff. So like, I almost picture like doing a show for the kids on the history of Edgewater at like one of the Edge Fest events or something. For like a puppet show or something. I think if you guys come up with ideas, we might mobilize people that would be interested in the other than the show. Yeah, I say let's invite them. I mean they can always share public comment anyway, right? But we can also have them put on the agenda to like present ideas, okay? Is there anything being done right now like where is anything historic? Is it in your? So if we gathered, if we created this initiative that, you know, gathered some more things, where would a good place to display it be? You have enough room? Okay. Yeah. Yeah, from what I understand Joe a lot of Joe and stuff went down to the smur. And probably gonna be probably get stuck there I don't think they'll probably be back. Oh I never thought about that because they're not a big space down there. We'll just I just tied your counter. I like going through that sort of thing. And if we had a way of scanning here. The other thing I do is pull out some dates because I'm going to talk about boundaries a lot of times. And these are like some of the years that things happened. Back in 21, we were talking about boundaries. So I made note of how many years away that was. So just listen to what you guys have. I think about it. There are several different interpretations of founders. Yes. The years. Yes. Yeah. Yeah, just uh. Next year will be 175 years since uh, wait, not 100. Is that clear? No, not 175. I'm a liar. 155, that's not as exciting. As I say, since they were founded, since it was settled. So I've always cared thinking of this 1865, because that's when John Milton Hawkes came here. Yeah, that's when it was founded. But we've got several, I mean, I remember Tracy Barlow had a different day. And it was a, it was a, I think it was Thomas that had a that's the 47th year since it's been incorporated. So it's like, because I was shooting for that, originally the 15th, the 2015. But, well, then they did that confirmation in 1990, 1911, stating of founders day, they were going to be the kind of, they were going to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, to be the kind of, that was when the land was purchased. Yeah, that's when he came after the Civil War, he came by barged up the intercostal figure. And he brought Matthias Day with him, or caught, or met Matthias Day, who ended up founding Daytona Beach. And John Millenhocks also basically started that township in Port Orange, which was a friendship bill or friend. The fact is still here, historical signs down there about that, but his wood shop or his wood mill was in Port Orange, which he originally wanted it called Orange Pork. But some reason it got changed, somebody said it was because they already have an orange pork, some place else. But, and that's where all of his workers came. When the freed slaves came down on barges and stuff down to pork Orange because of the wood mill and everything that they had there. All that was going on. And I've read up on some of those books. There is some books that are library. I've got a couple copies of different things. And John Belton Hawks also wrote the first Almanac in the state of Florida. And it was interesting to read. But I think I like to go at 186565 because that's when he got here. He bought man here and that's as far as, you know, that's what I feel like. So now whether or not we have a county government or something like that, it was going to etch be 75 years ago. Yes, 1951. You're exactly right. There was an incorporation date was different. Then his found. I think it saying that the incorporation date? Corporated 1951. 1951. That's a town itself, I believe. Yeah. That's when it became a city municipality. Yes. Okay. We're talking about business as you're right. Settled in 1871. So, started 1865, did he set up a corporation to broker land? Or did he set up a corporation for his wood shop in Port Orn's that made dignified year? Yeah, that's where the wood mill was. But somewhere along, as parallels, railroad tracks are historical. So I mean. In 1915, it was incorporated as Hawks Park. And then in 1924, Florida legislature renamed it City of Edgewater. In 1915, I think that, yeah, that sounds right. That's when they did the corporation. I mean, that's Wikipedia, so there could be errors. That's the way it is. Oh, well, that's gospel, isn't it? Like Google. No, there's so many different contradictory things. Now, there was a gentleman that made a presentation at that New Samarna Museum, who I went down and saw. I filled that museum and he was he was a historian and a in the bloodline of one of the streets that go like from ocean or something. I remember his name. I met him. He's a real nice guy. He had a lot of photos and stuff I'd never seen before. Um. Walter. Didn't that cut through that ocean? Yeah. I bet if I asked the guy at New Sumerna, I'll see you soon, remember, because they had refreshments laid out and some homemade cookies which were not really edible. I mean nobody took them with details. Well, I go for the cookies and the easyasie I describe does. It doesn't know the last name. Yeah, I mean, I have to have. Yeah, yeah. But these sugar cookies taste more like salt cookies, but that's what I'm talking about. In fact, they may have been. But maybe I'll get... Do we have any time song about library open down there in New Sumerna? Because I wouldn't mind going down there because I get doctorate appointments down under and do some run all the time. That's the place. Tuesday through Saturday, Saturday, 10 to 4. 10 to 4 and that's Tuesday through Saturday. Good Friday. It would be kind of cool with that group that wants to do some sort of history maybe some of the items that we have smaller, possibly build a base and maybe incorporate that into going to elementary schools to get them interested into our local history. Maybe into some of their local history, a book fair, maybe even displayed at an event, so that way it may get them involved and more interested in the local history or an edgewater. Something small that would just spark their interest. Obviously, kids, something that they would not know what it was today, obviously. We've got a few items in the glass case that would probably, I meant, one would be a rotary phone, honestly. It doesn't know that our rotary phone is now. I'm just something along the lines that would be like intrigue them to get involved with community history. Yeah. They used to do it with like the dare stuff, you know, they'd bring because obviously when you see something, and physically, it like it sparks more than just physically reading it. So seeing it would intrigue them to get involved in possible local history. For sure. For sure, especially something brass, something that's obviously not going to be damaged, but explain to them what it was used for, what who would use it, and it was something that was used regularly in this community, whether it was Dr. Hawke's something, whatever that may be, it may treat them to get more involved. Love it. So yes, we need is this. Well, I mean, so we used to be this any historian that was actually a position where she was in charge of it all and got volunteers. Yeah, I've pushed a lot of time with her. I was going over history from Oak Hill and from... I've got a lot of people that are involved in the local cemetery that's out there on air, Mark and stuff and those type of committees are now self-motivated kind of do their own things. So I mean, maybe this group that has been coming in, we've seen them a couple times. Some of them have particular things there. I just said the one moment was more interested in the history of the church and whatnot. And maybe as a whole, you know, Oak Hill has a history that book and I believe Edgewater has one as well. But you know, taking some of the core things or maybe in things that aren't there, you know, I mean, who would know that Dr. Hawk was connected to Port Orn with a wood shot, you know, and what he had said about, you know, Daytona and those things that may not be in that book and putting all those things together. Maybe even just bullet points of, you know, key things that happened to get us where we're at today. Now Esther wrote a book also, Esther Hoss. It's why, which was very good. I'm nominating Glenn as the historian. He's already, well, we've tried to have before, but. Yeah, I mean, if we get cookies involved, you'll know every. Yeah. Yeah. That's all right. If we get cookies involved, now my wife will kill me. So a couple of years ago, when Katie was here, she was really active in trying to get a founder's day thing going on. And at the time, we had gotten an approval to be able to do ambassadors type of club, which is someone that didn't have to meet under the whole, you know, basically, yeah, basically, like it doesn't have to be announced, so they don't have to be nominated. There's not like, you know, it's just kind of like a more casual, they can get together. I mean, we could, you know, if Glenn wants to, I mean, I'm not gonna totally just nominate you, but maybe if you want to maybe be the head of that and help them, I mean, they could meet and then kind of meet the tent. You'd be the liaison. They're. Us and then. Yes. I understand. They could group a volunteer. Yeah, and then they could report. They could report to Glen if they need to, and then report to the board. And then he can kind of, I feel like I don't know any of the history. And I'm more of an event side of things. But I still love all of this. but I think that Glenn would be so good at that. I just wish I could find some way of getting archives from it. The house, maybe that house, the first duty to this group to see if we can get that to happen. I mean, maybe it's a guidance. Well, for young people, they might be interested in going up to like Charlotte or whatever, and where the hospitals were, that John Milton Hawks and Esther Hawks worked in during the Civil War, because there was a lot of history there. Of course, John Milton Hawks being, he was the only doctor that would work on black soldiers. And their hospital was outside of the main hospital in tents. They weren't allowed to be in. And John Melmhoch not only worked on union soldiers, but also Confederate soldiers, they were, because you know a lot of blacks were recruited in the Confederacy, and there was a lot of history there. And of course they say that Esther Hawks was the one that started Memorial Day. So there were publications to say because she had the ladies had gotten together and collected flowers, wild flowers, and they lined the road from the cemetery where all these soldiers being laid to another point and that that was done many years ago. But since then, there's several other entities that have claimed that right or that. But it's in the books, in fact, it's an Esther Hoss book. And he describes in detail that day. So, of course, Esther went back up north and he came down here, but she's buried up there. He's buried down here. I'd have to get my head back in the game because it was a lot of history that I was going through and it just didn't go anywhere. Maybe you have the ability to relay that to these folks to do the legwork to help you complete this picture. Somebody may have, you know, I'm sure there's library information up in the Carolinas that could, that maybe if somebody, a student or somebody that would want to come up here and start typing and getting the connections made to where we could make this picture a hole, especially now that the internet, they don't necessarily may not have to go up there. Well, even if we don't have a celebration having a location where you can see and read, like you're talking about in our museum where it would be posted a wall or something that would describe the history. Or even more monument areas in our city that are that are dedicated or are noticed for their particular presence of what happened there in that particular day and you know certain areas that are obviously solid in history. This is where this happened and then you know it'd be nice to be able to identify those areas within our city. Yeah. I could find a way of finding out the history of the 31st USCI, which was the unit that Milton Hawks was assigned to. That's the 31st US colored infantry was who used a science suit. Now, Esther Hawks was made an administrator at the big hospital. Unofficially, she was a temporary, she was a villain because they would not allow a woman to be in that position. Backed yet. Okay, Glenn's the curator. Yeah, I know. I just did a lot of reading. OK. I believe in a month. My mind is still remembering the things. I understand what you're saying, but it needs to get down. But before we lose all this. In other words, you're wondering when I'm going to die. Oh, I didn't say that. Well, if you keep eating salt cookies, we lost a lot of information. We lost doing it. Well, she seems Miss Alexis came to the office, correct? Her daughter, yeah. Yeah. So I mean, it seems like she's wanting to be involved. So it may be something that she has passionate in that may be able to put what her mom had in motion. My mom was city clerk here for 33 years. So she, I mean, knows more than ample amounts of history. The wind was one of her closest friends. She knows, the reason I said I know there's a history of Edgewater book is because mom's literally in it. Like, she may be, I don't know how much she'd be willing to like do a ton but she is somebody we could talk to and get direction and she may know where some stuff is or who might know where something is direction she makes a hobby anyway yeah city clerk here for 31 years she's got got to know. She knows where the buys are buried. I mean, she's been retired for 17 to be fair. So, but we're talking almost 50 years, she goes back to being in the trenches and everything. All right, we've got to figure something out. Well, I say we start with the very first thing. Inviting them in. Yeah. Yeah. All right, we've got to figure something out. Well, I say we start with the very first thing. Inviting them in. Yeah. Yeah. And maybe they have an idea of something that they want to do. Yeah, give them some sort of collaboratively come up with a direction and maybe an objective and, you know, work on that. If we can set up meetings with the group and with Joanne Starr and you know, just to get some of this information together and see what we can gather. Yeah. Yeah, because some of the stuff is not, we're not going to be able to find. But I think it's still out there. And I think it's in the archives at New Sumerna, because they've got stuff stacked in boxes. They have a lot of stuff. And that's where I just wish they had a decent scanner. Well, they may have, now I don't know. You can sit there and open this thing and put something down for just a certain amount of time and then you're done. So when you can shoot them through, it's a lot easier. Of course, she's the one that's got all this work. I was going to say we can do it from our phones pretty easily nowadays. Yeah. Yeah. I still have trouble texting, but that's for side of it. So we don't need to vote on that or anything right? Yes please. Okay. Oh we can put it on the agenda for the next meeting as far as discussion goes. All right public comments you've already made them. Can you please come to the microphone? I'm just going to take your address. Discussion items. Before Jason goes, can I ask like what we need to do about Carolian? Oh, that was on the agenda was. I didn't see it. Yeah. Yeah. It's not on the agenda because she was on that. Yeah, as I say, I don't know what you did. We need to look at that. And then if you guys have anybody that you want to do. I do. I know somebody who has been like dying to do it. She has already applied. She's on a board now But would rather be on this board. I know she would resign from that one if Teresa haven't given her yes, yes She's She's amazing. She's super involved Yes, she's was a part of our ambassador group when I had my ambassador group. She's very very She's super involved. Yes, and she was a part of our ambassador group, and I had my ambassador group. She's very, very active. She needs to get with Bonnie, correct? Tons of ideas. This was the original board she wanted to be on it, and remember I told you about it, and you were like, I can't find her application, because we were full. She's on planning and zoning. She had put planning and zoning as her second, and they pulled her and got her in. That's why you didn't find her application. Teresa, he, she, R E S A. And then it's H E A V E at like heaven or. Oh yes. Oh yeah. I already did. Yeah. Okay, cool. And then you guys can make a decision on that site. You want to add it into the meeting or if you want to wait until she's following this up, which one? Well, there's other applications. Well, she technically did apply. Yeah, that doesn't say how long are the applications, like once they're filled out, how long are they good for? I think in order to vote in the right members and make sure that a lot of rejections are not going to be there. Oh, I mean. So same with the public. So I'm going to ask. OK. OK. Should I have or do another application just in case? Well we'd like to read it too. Yeah obviously. Yeah. I mean I'm doing this. You have two potential candidates. How do you decide? We kind of just go back like look at the. We're not missing. We're we are we are. We are. No, it sucks not on board anymore. And Carol Ann's not here anymore. Thanks. Haley is. Oh, Hayley took Zach's spot. Yeah. Where did Carol Ann take Zach's spot? Somebody. Yeah, each one of them took Zach's spot. OK. Just one. I'm going to go. Yeah, push. Please, one more. But we can keep a number on it, because. Well, and I was going to say the other person who, like, if we chose one and not whatever, maybe we mentioned to the other one this historical thing and being part of that. And I mean, you guys would collectively vote, I believe on who you want. How would a subcommittee work? You guys could vote to establish more. And but we don't have to have separate meetings. We have to, I mean, what's the... Or would it just be an align agenda under our? Like once we have. Okay. Something a little less formal than that. What would that be ambassadors being a ambassador? ambassador. Or a workshop. The workshop to me would be one time or a couple times. Yeah. That would obviously have reporting liaison. They report to someone on the committee and. And that's yeah, that's basically have an item listed on on the agenda reporting. I think we have a face. I think we have an edge water and founders. Oh, face. Because we what we were doing is we were doing two separate ones. One was me trying to get Teresa and a couple other moms in town to help with the events. And then the other one was with Katie. Yeah. And that's what we were doing it by the book. That was the right way to do it. So, because I remember like we had to go through a bunch of things and it was the only way to where we didn't have to have minutes and the person didn't have to be there We didn't have to record it we didn't have to do whatever and then we discussed it at our meetings Maybe that's something we discussed with the group that when they come we obviously offer that because then it would be a little bit less more informal They don't feel like they have to be somewhere. I mean, obviously you want them to kind of congregate, but at the same time, if somebody's got something going on, you're not going to affect minutes meetings. Yeah, and we met at your building. That's one. And one of the residents there. That's perfect. I mean, the museum's there. Yeah. And then maybe we ask the lady who submitted an application if she wants to be a part of that. And then you know, in the event we have an opening in the future, she would be that. Mm-hmm. Now, this is a little off of that subject, but back on the history real quick. Is this building for this house next door? Is it still limbo or what? The one about back here? Yeah, John Hawks, original house. It's about the one on Riverside Drive or the one behind here by the police department. When I gathered it. The one behind our on Riverside Drive is the next house So we're the one that's been painted different colors. Oh, I'm not sure I believe that I was I'm in Hawks original house. Oh, I think so many resides Don't know I mean it's had different owners. I just didn't know a thing. Well, I thought his original house at one point was City Hall like became City Hall That's why it's here. Oh, that's why City Hall. Like became City Hall. That's why City Hall is here. And he built a house next door. So, maybe. No, I mean like his house that he used to reside in, I thought became City Hall. Right, like, and then later he built that house. Oh, okay. Yeah. I mean, maybe the sanitary needs to be rebuilt down here. I'm going to show you. All right. It was a state sanitary. All the order. Directors report. All right. So we've internally been extremely busy. Obviously events. There's some flyers that Audrey has done. That upcoming events we have, you know, Earth Day Saturday April 26th. We have the laser light show that will be coming up. May 17th. The school's out glow party May 31st and obviously the fire works. We just had our Easter event I believe if I'm not mistaken 15,000 eggs 15,000 eggs. I could get them to pick up trash the highway as fast as they got those eggs. Oh yeah, I'm gonna be clean. I'm literally it took us hours to put them out and four and a half minutes to pick them up. Isn't it crazy how fast it goes? It's a thing. I think that we were, this year I have to say that we exceeded last year's, the amount of people that attended by far. I've seen a lot of folks. It was good to see the little kids and the very little one in field one. That's what it's about. They had a great time. It was a well received event. Trying to think the event prior to that. They've been running all together. What did we do? The principal. The principal. The principal. I talked to Amy about that, and I was trying to go back and think about it. It landed literally in bike week this year, and it was just, I don't know if that had anything to do with the attendance, but it didn't seem like we had it attended. There's a lot of couples like Adam and Ed Warner go to bike with us. We don't. Yeah, so I mean it was weird. So we're looking at the way the calendar falls. We even stared at it. I think Amy told me stated that it was kind of around the same time. And I was like, I don't remember that. I just don't think it was as attended as it was at that. We had the circus that came down. That was recently as well. We have the new pickleball courts going in. So that's at a, they're literally getting ready to start construction on the courts themselves. So they've got a lot of the site work is completed, the infrastructure's in, they've got the curbs poured for the parking and entrance. So the last thing I received that they were doing the courts is coming week. So it was a lot of activity over there. There is a term. So that will be completed and then will be face two, so there will be some more courts added. But I wanted to pass these photos a lot. So this is the, and keep in mind this is very early early early, I don't want to say conceptual like what this could look like. We are still in design. I want to emphasize that, but we're looking to phase the park into two phases for funding and grant purposes. So we can kind of take advantage of one particular grant cycle and then utilize another grant cycle for the phase two. So in that boat house to the right area we've been talking about so the police department has got a grant for a new boat. It's a larger vessel so being this park is going to be a design from the ground up. They initially were talking about trying to get permitting and putting a boat house here and having a boat literally ready to deploy. So we said, obviously this park being very small and it's just the permitting, why don't we design it from the ground up and incorporate it into this park? So they're going to use police impacts on fees, funds that they can utilize for the design and they're going to incorporate that into this new park. So they'll have a dedicated docking area, they'll have a lift, so they'll be ready to deploy, they back up to it and potentially respond to anything, you know, whether it be, you know, obviously with our fire department, So that'll be great. The goal is to obviously have multiple two-sided docs last launching areas. Some of them dedicated to smaller vessels. Some of them dedicated to larger vessels. A restroom, and potentially in these other photos behind it, incorporating up a playground, incorporating more pickleball courts, a pavilion area, walking area over the lake. So we're looking at doing this obviously in two phases. So Sandy's been working very hard to obviously explore grand options. DMC is, this is their forte with riverfront and waterfront parks and design. So they've been great. It actually helped us to the process. I believe they just signed the FIND grant paperwork to go forward with FIND. I believe we got more funding than we anticipated so Mr. Dabb, buddy Dabb, ports on the find. He wants to see this park come through fruition so he's helping the police department and he's been helping us us tremendously to see this vision come to Edgewater. We own the property. There's a lot of infrastructure that was kind of laid early, so we're gonna utilize that, but we've talked about using the stormwater area that's in the middle there as an outdoor classroom, marine classroom area for kids in the summer, and maybe trying to do a partnership with possibly Boston Whaleer, you know, Boston Whaleer Outdoor. I was just going to say Whaleer is right next door. Correct. We're trying to do something collaboratively because obviously this purchase of this property was to help with Whaleer staying here in edge water. So we did a partnership where we're obviously utilizing that pond for some of their storm water. So it's a way to honestly incorporate edge water park with predominantly with a vendor, a big vendor that provides a lot of jobs here in edge water. So it's like a good size buffer between a high biscus in there. The part, high biscus. No, this is our... Cassandra? Cassandra. Correct. You are with the mate, okay? No, this is the property wheel next to Whaler. Got it. Okay. So, this is a good buffer right here. 20 acres? No, I was originally with 60 acres. That one. Yeah, but Wheeler bought some for their parking curriculum long. Yeah, their new parking lot. Yeah, their new parking lot. So it's kind of a, I want to say the road's called legendary way. It kind of comes in and bends. So it's early on. Is there a link for this project? It's, yeah, technically it's South Edge Water Boat Ramp project, but it's legendary way. So it hasn't been officially obviously named, but there's a specific name I can't think of it off the man that we named it in the fine project. Okay. So it's early on, obviously, things are changing. Sandy, myself and the police department are going to have another meeting with the MC and talk about, obviously, what we can do for the most bang for our buck early on and take advantage of grants. And our main goal, obviously, is in the first phase to get the docs, get the restroom, and get the things towards opening and functioning, parking, and then eventually start to grow it in that second phase and incorporate pavilions, a playground, and those things. So it's a wonderful scene on the screen or... Oh, what is the red? It's a walkway. Over the water? over the water it's early on so I mean so it's I mean it's kind of got a city center vibe you know so I mean we're we're we're looking at this one's got an observation yes so I mean this is obviously Pavéans but I mean again it's early on okay yeah yeah Hello, I like this. Yes. So it's early on. We're exploring surface, surface parking surface materials that would perk versus something hard obviously with our flooding issues, something that we're not going to create more issues. We're looking at multiple designs to see if we can utilize. Like out here there's a grid system for parking. It's not paved. And the main road is itself, but the parking spots themselves are grid and a 5.7 so it allows the park. So we're looking at that option. So it's, again, it's early on, but we're trying to get everything finalized and basically to the end to where we can start putting shovel to the earth. So obviously there's construction phase that will go out for bid, but we're utilizing grant money right now for design, engineering, and we're utilizing the addition of the boat dock area that the police department is incorporating. They're implementing police impact funds. So it's a good way to utilize the funds and see something come to edge water. Yes. Well needed between river breeze and Kennedy. And it's a good deep water right there. Yeah. Yeah. The way we're doing it, it's originally dug all that out. It dredged it out, so it's deep. Yeah. They're still doing testing. They're going to do obviously samples and course samples and stuff. So but getting to where we want to see what we're going to obviously put out to bid is where we're headed right now. So it's kind of exciting to see it come to physical pictures and implementation of seeing what this possibly could look like. This is a pretty good design. Just make sure that playground has some shade. Parents today. Shade is the biggest thing. Yeah. When you're sitting there watching them, we're just like, I think that's probably the most feedback that I get from whistle stop. We are a part of from the very, I mean, there's a group on Facebook with stop moms. I'm always saying there are. It's called the with stop moms. I get. Wait, are they nice? Are they happy? Are they angry? It's your typical mix. I know what the good is. More, more friendly, more. If anything, they're very voiceless in, you know, obviously if there's concerns or issues, that are equipment maintenance related. I've got a, my wife is friends with someone in that group, so they're, she's always getting the information. She's like, you need to change these swings. I'm like, okay, got it on it. Ah. So, little things, but, you know, it's the typical teenage stuff you know the skate park and kids and those things. But the I think that for coming as like a parent that uses parks for parties and whatever that obviously whistle stop is the number one because there's so much to do there's so much stuff but before that it was just river part our river breeze because oh Absolutely yeah the whole thing just being I mean we recently I don't know if you've seen the YMCA lately we've Completely redone that one yeah we added shade structures to Monard we added shade structures to to Lake Analyst. Awesome. Umbrella, the center park's got a big area. Yes, I saw that. I don't know if I'm relaxing. So, yes, shade structures. Obviously, yeah, you want the kids to be comfortable. And obviously if you're monitoring your child, you want to be comfortable as well. Yes, it's, yeah. So, yes, I will mention shade structures. Shaleesh as we go to phase two. Yes. Um, perfect. That's that's imperative. I love that. Obviously, I think in there's some pavilions that are like yeah, I know that's great. So I mean, that's another thing with this stuff. I think you have one. Is there one? Yes, so. And that was just such a big park. And there was so much that we added there that like budget started going, okay. It's not really, budget was a factor, but it's actually the amount of concrete that's there. Oh, okay. It hinders any additions. So this is nice being able to. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, there's quite a bit because I mean you've got obviously the waterfront that in cafes that takes water but you also got obviously the water front that in cafes that takes water, but you also got the larger storm water pond. Because obviously anything that you pour, you have to offset by holding that water. So there's calculations that engineers use, and that came into a factor at whistle stop. Right. OK. Makes sense. So other than that, we are getting into the growing season. So internally, you know, the guys that cut crews, they're out on the highway, they're out on the median. They're getting into full blown, you know, summer mode. Our maintenance team, we've got a lot of projects. I mean, I don't know if, you know, from the past, we've almost morphed into a construction company for the city internally, you know. We've done great at that. We've literally built the entire gun range, the animal shelter expansion we built, the new building department we built. So we're not just grounds, guys slash custodial for parks where we have an internal team of skill up to five people. Yeah, that we build office additions, change light bulbs. I mean we go to this entire chambers and new carpet and paint. So I meant the guys are, as a whole, our department has became a, literally, I can do all for the city. There's, you know, very few things that we don't do internally. And I think it's beneficial to the city for obviously cost savings, but not to mention the Lead time and in getting somebody to repair something or do something so internally. We've grown And the additions to areas, especially out on 442 all these trails that they added to the south side of 442 That connected the bike path go all the way to Ayr Park and then the other one that's on the other side to the north side that goes from mission well even goes to the near 95, all the way back to the airport. All those things are hand-edged in mode. So there's a lot of additions that we've, as a city, have incurred that these guys have adapted to. And I can't say between Andrea taking on more because everything we do as a project leads to X amount of paper that has to be filed, received, and Andrea does that on her own. She's taken on a massive amount of work in what we've done internally. So I mean, we're looking to grow this year. Obviously, the budget's coming up, so we're looking to grow, not just machine wise, but obviously labor. So we are definitely growing, you know, with Deering Park coming and all these big communities. I mean, it's going to be interesting to see how as a city we adapt as a service. So it's been it's been definitely a journey from when I started. Yeah. For sure. Well, a good portion of our tourists are daily tourists come from come for the water. So would that's going to be what that said and people may not notice we are since whistle stop came on you mentioned that we have literally a lot of our well all of our operations prior to whistle stop were seven to three thirty now that whistle stops come on board we actually have a two to ten thirty shifts. The park staff from open to close. It's the first park in Edgewater that we've fully staffed. So with that said, we also have an individual that works with nothing but weekends. So we're staff seven days a week. So that gentleman takes care of park reservations that Miss Andrea takes over the week. He'll implement those park reservations and see that everything is fit for somebody that reserves a pavilion. A park, he's keeping up on the restrooms, keeping up on the dog parks, keeping up on the, because when you You said yourself, a lot of the people are, are people that are from a different county that utilize this ramp and come here. I mean, if you were to come down here on a Saturday, I mean, if you guys live here, obviously, you do, I mean, this whole streets covered, that lots covered, this lots covered, and the trash cans are overflowing. Those restrooms are open 24 hours a day, So he's battling that on the weekend. And then he runs the medians and gets US1 and 442 prepped for the guys that come in Monday. So that way they're not bombarded with massive amounts of trash. So he prepping their cut sites. So it's a moving machine, even behind the scenes. It's kind of like Disney. You don't know the stuff happens. There's a lot of moving parts and a lot of people in our department that keep that going. Obviously I have transitioned to Sam. Chris loves, I don't know if you've met Mr. Love. He's the gentleman that is now in my role. Great guy. I mean, I couldn't have, I didn't even have to pick. He deserves which. Mr. Love, I'm trying to, he's always on the edge of what our animal shelter. They always picture him with the dogs. He's out cleaning the parks and you've got a picture of dogs. You've met him really tall gentlemen. Bald, super. I mean, he probably his dog could die tomorrow and he's smile right in your face. I don't think I've ever seen him on half. Super nice guy. Well, you got a lot of those. Oh, yeah, for sure. For sure, a great guy. And he's taken the reins and the daily operations. It's been cool to watch the transition. Pretty much all of them. No, my name. They all know you, Mr. Power. I'm like, hmm. I still have no, no, they're not. Well, they just know you from Reese Cross, Marlisco. They know you from all the events. By the way, who was the driver of that truck in Dupraig when I was the grand marshal? Alex, yes. Alex, what's his last name? Coleman. Okay. So him and his brother used to work in our department. His brother just left and went moved to a Callie, kind of house in Calabit. Nothing disturbed him that day. That's good. I mean you could probably fired off a shot, get next to his head. He's got a CDL now. So we could see L class together. So I've known Alex since he was probably nine years old. So he's well he did a great job. Good guy. For sure. But I'll introduce you to Mr. Love when I see you. He was at the Easter Egg event. OK. I'd have to just pick him out. I know, I know him, because I talked to you just about everybody there. For sure. So by the way, is the tree fixed at stop. The tree fixed at whistle stop. The one that was then over? Yeah, hell-front. Months ago. Well I mean it was down again this past weekend. Oh I haven't even heard about that. The one out front. No. The tree. I'm assuming this is your wife. No, after the Easter egg hunt, I walked around and stuff. Okay, four of them. They had roped it up, but it wasn't sufficient. Is it at the entrance? No, it's a halfway down the dry. Oh, okay, I know it's when you're speaking about it. Yeah, that's the one we little wind storm a couple weeks ago. Yeah, it was on a median out in the parking lot. Is that the one you're referring to by the maintenance barn? Yeah, okay. I'll get the guys down there tomorrow. Yeah, it was down again. You know, they could have to use cables on that to hold it up. Absolutely. They're gonna need that because they were using rope on it. Now No. See it's still down. And I mean, it's down again. Yeah, down again. Yeah, we'll have to get it. Yep. We had that wind storm. It was pretty nasty. But other than that, I'm trying to think of we're trying to get the soccer lighting. We've got the soccer lighting upgrade budgeted. So I'm trying to get some bits together for that. We just finished the Veterans Park, Green Infrastructure Grant where we did the parking and they did some new planings there, and cooperated with the swales. That was a project between the city and Young Bear Environmental. So I'm working with the engineers now and we're looking to put the RFP together to finish Monard May Doth. One that's been damaged for quite some time. So we've I'm I'm new to this so I'm working my way and Sam's been great but there's a lot of things she had in motion and I'm trying to pick up and see where it's at and oh you're gonna be stuck on a cross stuff for her. I literally have to. So I found out you can only make a list so long. We repaved Kennedy Park that got repaved the entrance the entire road inside got paved whistle stop got completely repaved and that looks good and so we originally whistle stop was a FEMA project so that was part of the damage so that was so we put that out to bid a local company Massey here in town was awarded and we had a $75,000 budget to do the entrance of Kennedy Park. We put that in our general fund to fix that. So by utilizing, picking back and off a county contract, we utilized Massey who was. So for 75,000 we were able to do the entire Kennedy Park and Menard for that $75,000 price because we did not have to mobilize so we were able to save that much money at both parks done. So there was a 19 or $20,000 savings so it was a good opportunity to take advantage of while they were in town. So all the plants aligned and we did that. Well, I think you know, your guys are doing great. The events are set up great. I mean, I was impressed with the extravagance again. Of course, the Princess Ball was fun, but my tutu didn't fit, so but at any rate it was great. They off the cooking. Yeah, I think it was some of the cupcakes she used to bring. It was great. I love those things. Looking forward to all the new events, obviously we incorporated that new Christmas event. That was the last year. That was a great one. We're looking to grow that one. I think the incorporation of the banners and the medians have helped. I'm at the very nice, very big of all. Actually, they've been utilized for the building department as well recently. We're always open to obviously any type of comments, concerns, Facebook. We have that option, not Facebook, but our city page. We have that option to obviously submit concerns and comments and we're constantly trying to obviously be proactive, but there's times where things pop up and that's a good communication tool that the citizens can reach our department, generate a maintenance ticket or concern and we can obviously investigate. That's pretty much what I have. Well I see what's being utilized right now. My wife is walking wish will stop park right now. She's on the back stretch. So you said you can't text but you can track her. Yeah, right. Yeah, they put track around here and if they're going to track me, I'm definitely going to know how this thing works. There you go. So well we got the grandkids and everybody in here. So just schedule next meeting. Next meeting. Did you have some meeting in mind already? Well some are going to be busy. So I feel like last year we did it in August, because July was crazy. I mean, we can still, I didn't mean we couldn't look. I just feel like last year we ran into nobody could meet on the same day. I can in July on the second or the 30th. I can in the second. I'm free on the second of July. Or we can come on August 2nd. That's my birthday. You can bring a cake. That's a Saturday. Oh, it's a good day. What do you think? I'm good for the second. 30th is Deadlines. Okay. July 2nd. Yay. And then we can vote on the beautification award. Okay. You can do the debt to Zon and the debt to you. Okay. Okay. 530? 530. So is one to the police commercial and one to the residential? Yeah. Or sometimes we don't have commercial though. Oops. I think that there's two places that just redid there so it was the frosty thing. The car wash that they did next to that, they did a really nice job. Did you guys see that on the North Side of town? What's not car wash? Excuse me, is the ice machine place? Oh yeah, and then they have that thing for the food trucks. That was kind of cool. That is cool, I agree with that. And then first you can just sit there. And then you can sit there. And then you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. And then first you can sit there. have that thing for the food truck. That was kind of cool. That is cool. I agree with that. I had to look at it and see if it did their whole their whole. They didn't have a lot to work with and what it looked like before it's nine day. Yeah and they've offered something that is unique. Yeah it is. I think that idea was pitched at one point in time where kind of where Murphy's is now. We're kind of trying to do something like that. But I mean, it's definitely cool that that's kind of a multi-use spot being that it's odd and it's kind of at a sight out of mind. There's the new biker bar, but I mean, they've painted and added like nice seating out there. There's a bunch of people going. I mean, they had a block event just recently. Yeah. They didn't look like it was well attended. Yeah. I thought it was a city event. I was like, wait, what did I miss? Yeah. And then we talked about the frosty king because they did a lot of innovation. And they did a bunch of stuff across the city. Yeah, yeah. That was the other one. Yeah, so there's a couple people. Maybe they just want right next to Mike's tires, where the old school hall was. Yeah, I was that was the other one. Yeah, so there's a couple of people. Maybe they just do. And then the one right next to Mike's tires, where the old pool hall, where he's at. Yeah, I was gonna say that building looks amazing. Yeah, pretty much. But that. There's a lot. I already did know. Thank you. I already told you. He's in historic mode. He's in historic mode. I can't believe that. Do you like to know when I get someone? It's a conflict of interest. That's what I thought for us. But it's not. Okay, so I'm gonna be for us again. All right. All right. Are we good? Yeah. So can residents nominate people as well? Yeah. Okay. Anyone can. They can self nominate or they can nominate someone else and then we just verify that that's... It's kind of like the same, the Christmas lights. Yeah. I like to have another business business. I just think that people just don't like remember. I don't think they're aware. They become... like the same the Christmas lights. Yeah. Like to have another business business. I just think that people just don't like remember. I don't think they're aware. They'd be kind of cool to have this. We get it. They are when we have Council meetings, which we have on Monday. Is it kind of cool to have them? Oh, that's a good idea. So you have to have the notification awards, the domination things here during cost of the Council meeting. Or maybe we could ask them to say something during a council meeting? Maybe have the council nominate somebody as well. We could have them announce it and just say that our, you know, parks and rep board, I mean, it could just be a line item just to say, yeah, they've nominated and voted and this is who they picked. Yeah, or that they have until May, because we haven't until May 29th. Wait, what was it? The May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. It's May 1st. Yeah, our science fixed at the office now we get two sides, but if you feel like, I mean, if we're not even going to vote until July. Well, it says the awards sign will be just, I'm sorry, that it'll be announced by May 30th. Oh. Yeah, that's what it does say. Can you just do an email thing like you do for the Christmas light. For us to vote. Like send us a list of them to look at so that we know what we're voting on. Do we have to have a special meeting for that? I'm like the next gathering is after that date. Yeah. Yeah. Our next meeting. Okay. When it was what did we decide on as the next direct meeting? July 2nd. And when did it say what was July date on that? The deadline to enter May 30th. And then? Can you just push it to June 30th? For the winners to be announced. No, for the deadline to enter. The deadline to enter. And then the winners will be announced after our meeting. Okay. 30 and then we're going to will announce July. Yeah, we'll use that as part of the marketing. We'll say the date to enter is been extended. Okay, yeah, I liked that. Has nobody else entered, but me? Correct. There we go. Okay our meeting. Okay. A journey at 655. The mic is loud enough. She did! Did you hear that? I make a motion when you're doing it. What happened? She tried to hit it. She goes, I don't love the gavle. Okay.
