Okay, now we're going to go to item 13c, which is approval of donation of artifacts from the JW Taylor Farm site and will call on Commissioner A&D Eats. Morning members. Today is a very special day here for the history of Ditton County because we're going to have a wonderful presentation of some log buildings, architectural, I mean agricultural implements and some family artifacts from the foy Taylor Farm site, which is a Texas historic family farm here in Corinth and Ditton County. And I'll tell you many times, historic preservation takes time and it takes willing partnerships among donors who are interested in preserving their family's history and the county's history and our staff and volunteers. Many years ago, me and the Thurman and I were talking about the Taylor Farm and the log building and the Barnes and Outbuildings and we have been working with the family for many years, Nita especially. And we've been waiting for just the right time that the family was ready to partner with us and so excited that over Thanksgiving, Nita emailed us and said that the family was excited about visiting with us. And I said, let's go soon and so Peggy riddle and need a wedding visit with the family. And last week on Monday, I believe it was, and took some photographs. We went out there a couple days later with my father who photographed the site. We're very excited about a presentation that Peggy Rill and Peggy Caps are going to give us this morning about this farm site, how historic it is. And I will tell you what's especially noteworthy is that it completes many of the phases of our historic park, which the court has adopted. If you recall, we've adopted a master plan of what the park is going to look like in its ultimate build out. With some log buildings and a barn and so forth. And that's exactly what we're going to be acquiring today, which is a real compliment. It helps complete our master plan. So Peggy Riddle or Peggy Caps, I don't know who's going next. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you. I'm extremely excited about this donation. It's like you don't stumble across these types of acquisitions very often. So I'm going to tell you a little bit about the site and how it fits in with our master plan for the historical park. The original land grant where the structures are situated was issued to William Wilson in 1859 and 1860. William Wilson was an early potter in Denton County and actually his Wilson kiln site has been ex-great I'm gonna talk about that a little bit so what we're seeing here is the original log construction we estimate this was built sometime between 1845 and 1850. So it's very old. It's a half-dove-tailed notch in a single-pin log house. The exterior has a stacked native rock chimney. This type of log construction is typical of someone of English descent. It is a square and it's considered a 1 bay. And typically these types of houses have a half story or loft, and this one has that, which would have been a sleeping loft, as Mr. Tyler told us, for the boys. I'm believe the girls got to sleep downstairs. But it contains its original doping and chinking inside. It's still intact. Here's the exterior chimney, stack chimney. Again, it's very rare to find it still at least standing. This is the interior fireplace. Again, very unusual to find something like this. The house, like I said, has an upper story or loft and that's also very typical of our area in the cross timbers. What we're seeing is a added lean-to-shed room which was the kitchen and there was another addition to the House later on to the North, I believe. William Wilson, again, was one of Denton County's earliest potters. He was active between mid 1850s through the 1880s. We do have some of his pottery. He sold this particular parcel of land to Augusta Serran, who was also a dittin' county potter. So we know this area was really good for making utilitarian pots. And this kiln that was excavated, we received, I believe in 1998, and it is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This is the kiln of how it looked right before all the pieces were moved. This is our master plan for the park, and if you see the little beehive like round structure, that's the kiln and we always had it located in the park. These other structures represent log buildings as well as barns. So again, that was always a part of our master plan. The log barn is also being donated and it features saddle notch log ends. Again, these are in good condition and I'm just again astounded that it's still there with some of the tack. We're also going to receive some of the agricultural artifacts. And I can't tell you what all these are, but Mr. Taylor Cannon and we're going to take him on a tour through all his farms so he can tell us what each of these pieces of equipment were used for most of them were mule drawn equipment. We're also going to get a chuck wagon and in doing a little bit more research we found out that this farm was a part of a line or a section for cattle drives from the Wagner Ranch indicator. And so they would have maybe used this type of chuck wagon to feed the cowboys along the cattle drive. We're also going to get some of the Tyler family personal artifacts. This wonderful iron bed that has a toe painting on the headboard and the footboard. Quilts, this is on your right as a pie safe. On the left is a shaving mirror from the Lake Dallas-Gin Company and an early mouse trap. A Stetson hat box with the Stetson hat inside. An ice box and there is an early guest stove. And we will be working with other county departments and our wonderful crew of volunteers to transport the artifacts and the structures to storage for installation and restoration at our historical park. And we will be documenting things on site, tagging them, getting them ready to move over into the courthouse in our other facilities. And we can start exhibiting them right away. We are so grateful to the Taylor family for this gift. Here is a picture we're all out at the farm after the signing of the gift agreement, formal handshake. And again, we'd like to offer a special thank you to Nita Thurman for her help with this project. And now I'd like to have Peggy Keps come up, please. I'm the cheerleader part of this team, as you all know. I wrote you a letter and I know it's kind of verbose, so I'm not going to read it to you. But I know that all of you realize that this is truly a once in a lifetime opportunity and we are so grateful this morning that Mr. Taylor and his son are with us and we are so grateful to have the opportunity to in one fell swoop just in time for Christmas enhance and fill out the concept plan that we have for the historical park. We'll be able to prepare traveling exhibits available for use in other county facilities. We'll be able to lend these to other agencies who are interested and we'll be able to bring young people to our historical park so that they can actually see and touch artifacts that were used in the early agricultural life of Denton County. We thank you for your continued support of the Denton County museums and we appreciate having the opportunity to give this to the county this morning. And I'd like to express appreciation for the tellers for being here this morning and certainly for the donation of all these wonderful artifacts. Like I said, it really completes our park. Is there anything that you would like to add? Sure. Come on up. If you're going to talk to us, you've got to come up to the microphone so everybody can hear. And please, and this is your son, correct? Yes. If you would introduce your father and I don't think it would embarrass him to give his age. I'm having a hard time here in anybody. Okay. But I'm proud to donate this. I've been trying to donate it for the last 10 years. But I wanted it to stay in the same place. So it could be called authentic. Moving it, it's going to be just a move to house. But anyway, I'm proud to get it moved or get it located somewhere where somebody can enjoy it like I have. Yeah. Or so I was born to another house. And I've got a heart for it, I guess. Sure. Well, you're donating it to people who also have a heart for it. And I think that's important. I like it to see it before I go. Fixed out. Like it should go. And I proud. Well, we're proud to have it, sir. And we thank you for being here this morning. Did you want to say it? Please introduce yourself, because this is recorded and we'd like to keep it all. I'm James Boyd Taylor. I'm the youngest of his four sons. My father is 84. We're very proud that what the court in Denton County is doing for us, we're pleased to donate this to the county. We've lived in the area for many years, so we're very pleased and thank you all for everything. Well, we thank you, sir, and we're very proud to acquire this, certainly, the collection and for future generations to enjoy. Did you get a good picture? Sure, Anita, come on up here. Oh, why? Put that microphone down so it doesn't, hold on just a second, piggy. There we go. All right. Okay. Good morning. Always too short for this. I just wanted to say that this is something we've been Okay. Good morning. Always too short for these. I just wanted to say that this is something we've been, as far as said, working on for 10 years back from Harvard Smith, was chairman of the commission. We first talked to a foyer and I just, it's a tremendous gift. I'm so glad he's doing it and it's all our helping. That's very important for historical preservation. Thank you, Nita, for everything that you've done. We appreciate you. So I will tell you what we will be doing in 2013 is going out taking detailed photographs of the site, disassembling the structures, doing with a newly re-activated archaeological committee for the DCHC, and they will be doing archaeological digs at the site. Actually, we will be bringing disassembly and buildings and bringing those here. We'll use and county forces, and perhaps some contractors. So we're very excited about that. It's gonna be an ongoing process and it's a true partnership between the family and the county and we appreciate that spirit of partnership as we move forward. All righty. I think we need an official motion. Andy, would you like to have the honors? I'll move for approval. Thank you. Motion by Commissioner Ead, seconded by Commissioner Mitchell. All in favor please say aye. Aye. Opposed, Senaim? Motion thus carrying in, Ms.lene, thank you very much for being here this morning. All right. Now this is to replace, this to replace Frank Millen, that's why it's posted. Okay, then what one? Okay. So I'm just bringing it to your attention. Then I need some help finding a good replacement. Any particular qualifications they need? You want to speak to that? I don't know that they've... Yes, this is what need is. And need a Nelson is in and interested in it Yeah, Anita Nelson Nelson is the only person that I had received any information about and that's why I'd sent it to the Commissioners previously I understand she had come in and spoken with Judge Horn She also spoken with Commissioner Mitchell. I don't know if she had spoken with anyone else or if anyone was interested in speaking with her The we don't hand her back had spoken with anyone else or if anyone was interested in speaking with her. We don't hand her back up in the trail though do we? I did not place it on there because I was not sure that she was the nominee that you all wanted and I can probably have some back up here. Won't you all ask them to do this and then we'll carry it to next week and I'll look at it. Unfortunately we need to have that nomination done by the seventh, as I had indicated on the email when I sent it out to you all before Thanksgiving and on the information or the posting as well. This needs to be, we need to have nominees and then once the nominees are there. Oh, that's right. You nominate first. Then the... We can go ahead and nominate today. We need one nominee or multiples. We only need one, but in case they're not... That nominee is not accepted or in case that nominee is not wanting to serve, then we can make several nominations. I'll second that, but I also do have a nominee who would express an interest prior from trophy club. That we can, that I can, we can submit in that need. OK. But we just need to make sure that we have the backup materials and that we send in all those names. And then the actual. You're saying this needs to get to them by the seventh which is like this Friday. And commissioners court needs to send it. But that's why if any of you have any nominees, then we can do that. I'm looking for my name here. What's that person's name? No, no, we still have some backup. Is it can trial? Okay. And I'll contact her. I'll make every number. I got a need as number. Mr. Eads, did you have a need of another person? You're looking for it. Go ahead with the motion for Bobbies and then if we could come back to it. I'll look through our material as well and I had not heard from Commissioner Martin or Coleman so I wasn't sure if you had any nominee. All right well for the time being we'll just nominate. I don't know we could have multiple. I don't know we could have multiple ones. I knew a need was in the mix and so. Okay but what happens is that we send a man to free it, free it, keep it clean then he'll then they'll send them to us. They'll decide and send them to us. And then we'll vote on it. OK, we have a motion to second to nominate and need and also and let's vote on that. And then the commissioner needs, if you need to come back with another name, we can show you that.
