All righty we have no one's I know for public comments. We have two councilmembers one that will not be here and one that is being via remote councilman Taylor. Welcome to the the Councilman Taylor. Have a motion for approval of the May 13th 2024 regular meeting. I make a motion to approve the minutes of the May 13th 2024 regular meeting as presented. Well, second. Second. Councilman Cameron, how do you vote? Hi. Councilwoman Barson. Aye. Councilman Wooden. Aye. Councilman Taylor. Aye. Aye. Motion? Here is unanimous. Will there be any changes to the agenda? Very none. I'll entertain a motion to approve the agenda as presented. You'll make a motion to approve the agenda as presented I do I have a second second Council and Cameron. How do you vote aye? Councilwoman Borson. Hi Councilman Wooden aye Council and Taylor. Hi Motion carries unanimous We have our agenda The only announcement I have this evening is that all of our votes that you just heard will be taken by roll calls even that we have a remote participant Moving on first Item is a presentation by the Flemish Historical Society by Larry Kirby You all probably are aware the historical society has not met for quite some time. It got shut down there in COVID. Got shut down there in COVID and was not able to get itself back moving. So at Christmas party at the fire station, I was informed that after the January date that I'd be getting a call from those that were left and they wanted to talk to me about it. So we ended up having a meeting last week before last, excuse me. And in that process, we voted to name me as chairman of the committee. and I'll get it out in a minute. Keith, once Mike's last name Mike is on one of the, I mean on middle-brugger parks. beef parks is named by share. We will be meeting once quarter. We have a lot going on that we have just put on the table. I went through all this stuff. I could be here for a couple hours. Anyway, we are planning for 2026, which as you all know, was a lot of things going on. I see Lianz not here tonight, and you all assigned her to come to the meeting, which she did not, she covered it by whatever you all call that stuff there. And I'm old school, I don't have to do that. But after attending the meeting, I will personally tell you that there's no sense in you all having two people down there myself and her. So if you all want her to do it, that's fine with me. I just know that there's going to be a lot of meetings. They already had two this week and some of the times you don't have to make them all but sometimes you do so it didn't make any difference between you all from deciding that after I leave and let me know whatever but all that is about down there is planning for a celebration for the North Carolina and all it's done prior back to today. And I mean back to the day it was born. They didn't have any real, in my mind, good suggestions as to how to go about it. So as the historical representative, I made a suggestion that all the school teachers that were there and all the people that say, all the Salem were there seemed to jump on pretty quick, didn't hear anything out of the lens, so I don't know if she was forwarded against it. But they want to get the school kids involved. I think it's a great idea. The more we're able to help them learn about the country they live in, I think the better off we are. So my suggestion to them was that since some of the teachers had already suggested that they would ask the kids to write some kind of a report on history, that we should do it on vets. and they should go out and try to locate these vets that are still living and interview them and come back and make a report. Each school that's in your district whatever grade that is then you all will invite those folks we hope to your Clemens day and then the winning report will be read by that child and then you all would submit them with some type of an award for that. So you all would have probably three schools to do that with and that's not been approved yet but it's first on the list we'll put it that way. And we have found hearing Clemens that we have a gentleman that's one hundred and one years old. He was full bird curl. And he ran across his name and I actually called him and asked if I'd come by and talk with him and he said, well, you need to bring. So and so and so and so and so said, I talked on talk with him and he said, well you need to bring so and so and so and so and so said I taught them how to be so assertion so that gave me some more names but the goal of the historical society is to try to locate as many of our veterans as we can, pardon me, just just gets to me. And someday hopefully you'll find something to do with the information, but you're at least having it. We're going to meet once more. I'm sorry, what are we supposed to do with that information at this time? You don't have it right now. Oh, okay. So when we get it together, we'll give it to you all, and then you all can use it whatever way you see fit. We're going to meet once quarter right now until we know how things are going. We lost two members at the last meeting and gained three. We are reaching out and I don't care to tell you, not trying to be prejudiced, and I think we're reaching out to the people over 65. Because we're trying to get history right now on our books. And unless we run across someone that's been studying it, and we don't have that name yet, we certainly was welcome but this past meeting we had people like like like I said Keith was there and his dad probably knows more about Clemens than anybody living today and and then we had the young man that used to run the gun shop hearing Cle, his mother dead on the flower shop down on Hampton Road. And he's been here, I think since our general illness came. So we've got some people coming on board that we hope are going to help us. We will not be asking for any funding from you all this year because we know your budget's already been worked out and say we have tried to do a few things to conserve what few dollars we have. But in the coming towards the year of 2026 we're going to probably have to be on the budget simply to be able to do the things you'll expect us to do to help you out. But we are going to apply for a grant from the state. We hope to be able to hire one of the students at the school over here at Versailles Tech. That is in the movie and picture-taking program and we hope to be able to take some pictures of some of these folks that we're talking with and working with about history and also some folks may not want to give along conversation with one of us. So we're going to have this person available. So they can come by and simply ask for 10 minutes. And that's probably going to be our max to allow them to say whatever they want to say about history. And then we'll record it. And if it's something that you all don't particularly careful, you all can take it out. But we'll take everything that's brought to us to start with Mr. Kirby appreciate you come to see me Speaking to us, so I'm held a three-minute see even though I'm on the we want about seven. Okay. All right I can't remember but you know that We've got a box somewhere in this building where we All kinds of stuff to be open at a later date. Do you remember when that was supposed to be? 50 years 50 years Did you plan on attending that Okay. I'm sorry. I'm already. I don't have a problem with it. In my place from then.
