I forgot my pencils, though. I don't have anything right. Do you got an actual name? I think a Sean's got me one. Yep. Thank you. I went home, dropped my daughter off, and then took my book, but I meant to only take the one book, and I took them both in. That's where my stuff is for tonight. So. Thank you. We're recording. All right. Awesome. All right. Call to water. All right. First, we'll start with a roll call. You want to do it? Perfect. We have Christian. Here. Have Cushion? Is it your? Here. And Cindy, thank you. We have a quorum. Here. Excellent. So we'll now move into public comment. I believe we have somebody here with John's Creek Corral. Yes, you do. Yeah. I'll move this out of the way. I'm probably close enough. I have one of those voices that carries. Hi, I'm Linda Bergman. I'm the executive director for the Johns Creek Corral. Obviously we're based here in Johns Creek. And I just wanted to come before you and tell you a little bit about our group very briefly. If you're not familiar with us, the events we have planned this year and some forward thinking things we're doing. Because I just think it's important, we've always put our events on the city calendar and the chamber and everybody we can. And I'll continue to do that. So we were started about 2015, 1415, and Dr. Nathan Frank, who was in Texas, was researching somewhere to come and start. He first of all, a job in music, but also to start a chorus. And he did a ton of research. It's super interesting. John's Creek popped up on his list. He knew nothing about it. But it popped up because of the population, the diverse ethnicity of this area, the income of the area, the huge number of arts organizations around this area, etc. and the schools and everything. And that's how he targeted in on John's Creek. So he became the music director at the John's Creek United Methodist Church. And he wanted to start a choral group, not affiliated with the church, but on the side. He met with Wayne Bowman, and Wayne always wanted a chorus who could sing things with the symphony, but he didn't want to lead it. He and I had many of those conversations. So it was like perfect marriage. So when Nathan came here, we got kind of a wild boar together. We had 22 people show up, but we ended up getting our bylaws in place, we got a board in place, and we got our 5013C designation in 2016. Right now we have 10 members on our board who vote. I'm on the board on the 11th member, I don't vote. We have all the people on our on our board right now are members of the corral, except one. We recruited a new person from corporate America, CEO of Progressive Lighting, which we're thrilled with, Troy Lee. And so that's how we have operating board. We have budgets. We've got the whole shebang. Nate is the artistic director of the organization. We have an assistant director, Mason Copeland, who is new with us, but he is a music director at Northview High School. And we're thrilled, he's super talented, but also just knowing his affiliation with the high school or hoping we can do some collaborative things with them. It opens up a world for us and also a world for students too. And then our accompanist is Deb Turning. She's pretty well known in this area. She plays for a lot of different groups. Often on we will hire musicians in the area for certain events that songs we need or whatever, like this we just had a concert and we had like a small chamber group that we had hired to play. We generally have four to six concerts a year. Our fall concert we just had. We didn't have a Christmas concert. So December 2nd's our next concert. So it's Christmas with the corral. We have a February concert around Valentine's Day, but it's gonna be, we have a married couple in our group who are music teachers at Reinhardt College with stunning voices, and they're gonna do some pieces. And then we also developed a women's chorus a few years ago called tapestry. They'll be doing a concert. And then in April, what we have is super exciting. We're calling it the big scene. And I don't know if y'all are familiar with pub choirs, but they started over in England and they get people together to sing in a pub. We're not doing the pub by the way. And they hand out music and everybody sings and they're super popular. So we're calling it the big sing and our goal is to get that sanctuary over there where we perform filled and the chorale do a few pieces and then we're going to go out in the audience and we're all going to sing together and learn music. It's going to be wonderful. Part of that is to get people, most people love singing, but they might be a little scared to join a group or not want to do it. But those things together with people. So we're going to do it for that reason. We're also going to do it so people are aware of who we are. Because I know there's a lot of people, even just in John's Creek, that have not heard of the John's Creek corral. So it's going to be super fun. We're hoping we can recruit some singers from it too. So our group right now is we had a great recruiting season this year. We have 99 singers. It's fantastic. And our last concert went really well. It was very well received. We have a lot of attendees. The one thing I wanted to mention that we are planning to do this summer and is called a music camp for children. So K through 5. I'm not sure where we're going to do that yet. I'm working on the venue. And it's going to be a Monday through Friday, say 9 to 1, and we'll have 120 kids we hope. I think we'll certainly fill that and have teachers in each classroom and that'll have 120 kids we hope. I think we'll certainly fill that and have teachers in each classroom and that'll just be a fun time. And part of that is, you know, our mission as our group is where life and music intersect is what we say. And what that really means for us is, you know, we all have busy lives and a lot of people don't think, they think they're busy, but somehow there's a place where you can meet those and you can sing and have a busy life. And it's a sweet spot. And what happens to a lot of people is they sing very young and then they don't sing. And they may be sing through high school if they're lucky. They stop singing and they don't sing until later, later years. And what we want to do is have everybody realize you can sing from this big to 90. And I'm going to tell you in our group we have 18 year olds up to way in the 80s in our group now. So this whole music camp in addition to being great for the kids, we hope we'll kind of garner that and the parents will realize, hey, this is pretty cool. Oh, and they can go to do this. And then one other thing I wanted to mention we're doing, which is pretty cool. Next Tuesday at our normal rehearsal day, they are George attack and north few high school actually is having their concert over at the church and Georgia techs singing with them. The corral is going to join them for two songs and so I love this whole collaborative thing that we're doing and I think it's really important in this community to do that so we're trying to find a lot of opportunities for that and I know as y'all act as liaison and hear about things if you have any thoughts about that or ideas are here about anything, I would love it if you could contact me. I brought, I'm not going to keep you any longer, but I brought, this is our yearly season program and I brought one for each of you. My card is attached to it. This shows all our concerts this year and what we do every program is then print a flyer of that specific program. And the one thing I did want to tell you, we are also collaborating on two concerts with the Symphony this year. Their Gala Christmas December 16th and Beethoven's 9th, which is going to be crazy good. So there's one movement of that that is a choral movement, and we will be the chorus for that. So thank you so much for letting me come today, and I'll just, I brought enough, I brought 10 copies. So. Yeah, unfortunately we have some people that can't. That's fine. I'm going to leave them, I'm going to leave them with you because when you fill the vacancies. Excellent. It'll be great. So thank you all. Yes, thank you. Okay, that's all the great. Thank you. Very nice. Perfect. I have no other cards for public comment. The next one is reports and presentations. And we have misgrows here for the city update. So we added the city update to the agenda because we realized that I didn't have an opportunity in the agenda to give you an update on all the things that we talk about. So I want to give you a recap of what I've been working on and what I'm working on in the future as it relates to the ACE events specifically. We had the literary fair and those of you who were here when Kathy Choffee presented that idea to this committee, it was a huge success and I love that event so much because it started right here, just like Linda shared her public comment. Kathy shared her public comment. This committee agreed that it was something they wanted to put before a council and recommend to council for an event and we did it We created something out of nothing and it was 600 attendees. It was over 40 authors our keynote author Kristen Harmel She was hugely received and two days later. I saw on her Instagram. She was on the today show So she's kind of a big deal. Yeah, like promoting her book. And so it was really fantastic. And if you're in the writer's world or you're a reader, there were people that came from North Carolina that are in a book club that that followed Kristen, her podcast and they had shirts. And in this whole book club was very enthusiastic about about seeing her and listening to her speak. So it was a really neat event and we have received great, great feedback. So I just say kudos to you for having the foresight to know that that would be a great event and something that would be well received in our community and to take it to council and that council heated that advice and passed it and here we are and it was really, really fantastic. So next year hopefully we'll be able to do it again. Then a few short days later we had the Health Wellness and Innovation 5K and Wellness Fair and that was the first official 5K race on the Colleague Creek 5K trail and also an opportunity for the city to launch the Health Wellness and Innovation Branding message that we are the forefront leaders of Health Wellness and Innovation. So we had over 25 wellness vendors, we had over 240 people cross the finish line. I think our fastest runner was sub 16. So I can tell you at 16 minutes, I would still be rounding mile one. But these guys pass it neck and neck two guys are under under 16 minutes. It was incredible. So it was really a fun time. Of course, the weather was beautiful. And that was a great celebration of wellness in the city health and of course our innovative trail and a couple of cool things that came out of that to businesses used it as team building events for their businesses. One business brought 37 runners and they had t-shirts made and another business brought 100 runners. So they became a sponsor and they paid for 100 runners from their company and they brought lunch for every you know for their team and they stayed and played pickleball and they just had a great team outing out of it. So I thought that was really a neat way to incorporate local business and and just have a really great time celebrating health and wellness and innovation. So then looking ahead, we have Trucker Treat this Wednesday. That is sponsored by the Public Safety Foundation and John's Creek Police Department. The parking lot will be filled with masses of children and very large skeletons and music and food trucks and fun. So if you have kids or you don't have kids and you just wanna be where the fun is, then this is where you wanna be next Wednesday from six to eight. Then we have that following weekend. We have the Johns Creek Arts Festival. This is not an ACE event nor was trunk or treat, but there's still events happening and I am still involved in them. So I wanted to tell you about them. The John's Creek Arts Festival is on the field across from Atlanta Athletic Club. It is October 21st and 22nd. We do outsource that event. So it's put on by a company called Splash. It is an internationally award-winning event. So come over. I think it starts at 10 a.m. both day Saturday and Sunday and it is a really fantastic event. Lots of great artisans there. And then moving on back to Ace. We have a Diwali festival on November 4th. Also in that same field across the Atlanta athletic club, we're looking at approximately 40 to 45 vendors and club. We're looking at a approximately 40 to 45 vendors and 15 to 20 food vendors and three bounce houses and three face painters and character artists and blue artists and the head of tattoo artists and all the things. Performers galore and this year in lieu of a firework show we're doing a drone show. So that's really exciting innovation. So that is, that's going to be really a really cool time and we've hired a professional parking company. So we learned from the issues last year and we've taken steps to correct them this year as best we can. And then shortly after that we have Holly Jolly Block Party, not an ace event, but I am involved in it. And that is here in this parking lot. It is the lighting of the great John's Creek tree, our 40-foot tree. We have some illuminated glow-in-the-dark drummers coming to help us like that tree. We've got a band that'll be here. Your favorite Sinatra, Bublé, traditional holiday music, and they'll be singing that. And then of course we have the favorite fan favorite seed and feed. I feel I don't know that band, you'll live them up on the website, they're wild. And they're so fun. So we have lots of really fun things. Of course we have crafts for the kids, lots of food, llamas, what's the holidays without llamas, and Santa, but most importantly, we will have the SEC football game on the big screen. So go dogs, that will be happening, because the event is from 4 to 8, the game starts at 4, and we don't want anyone to have a reason to not come, so we will make that viewing experience quite lovely for everyone. Again, Godawks, three feet. Come in. And then not to be left out. We have Lunar New Year February 10th. And while the planning on any of these, some of the future events hasn't started, we can't save the date for sure on Lunar New Year. And what's Council approves the calendar, however, if it may get changed or however it's approved at Council Meeting next week, then those dates are locked in for 2024. So we can save the date. You know, you can tell your sponsors, your vendors, your performers. Hey, it's on this date. Put aside, we'll be back in a few months to start getting information from you. But in the meantime, this is the date, February 10th. Yeah. Last Friday, I met the director of one of the performing group from last year. And I was telling her about the date. And she said, we have the date and she said, we will be really, really busy and probably running for three places. So she's asking if there is any possibility to move the date. I was like, I can try. The date's locked in. Yeah, okay. So they have to figure out something like the adult group goes to Stone Mountain and then you know like kids group go to Forsyth County and then one group comes to our event or something like that. I'm sure everyone will figure it all out February 10th at also at the field across from Atlanta Athletic Club, also answering the traffic issue and the parking issue that we had. That's a great place. Yes, it is a great place. And applications will get alive in early November, but save the date. Is that something we should mark for looking at 2025 and recommending to the council to possibly move that off of the actual lunar new year date. We have to look at what's the actual lunar new year date and probably find out the closest date, right? So that's where? January 25th. In the 23rd page. On the 25th or 25th or 25th or 25th calendar. But we'll get to that. But yes, that's the conversation we need to have. So I did just want to loop you in on all of that and make sure you knew what's going on and always need volunteers in particular. I have a call out for a committee to help with Holly Jolly, to help with that event planning day of. I need stage management, I need Lama wrangling, I need Santa wrangling, lots of things. And we are looking, we want to create a backdrop for Santa that's just picked for us, think St. Ky School Play set kind of thing. And so I need some handy people that can build and paint. And we can create this kind of vision. So people are coming to get their pictures with Santa. We want it to look great. So Pulling that together those the application for those volunteers is on our website. So Veni the Holly Jolly Holly Jolly is December 2nd So that is all I have about that. Thank you. Under new business, the first item is approval of the minutes from the September 4th meeting. You need a motion and a second for that. A motion to approve. Second. Approved. Thanks. Perfect. Next item is the 2024 Special Event Calendar. We have Ms. Grosses. Here we are. We were touching on that. So yeah, I hope that y'all had a chance to look over the dates and any feedback on dates trying to take into account other things that are going on. The full city calendar did want to touch on a few changes that have been made that are highlighted in the memo. The first change is that we're discontinuing the MLB play ball pitch and run, that's an R-pack event. It just was very, it was an attended very well compared to the resources that we had to put into it. So we did take that off the calendar. And then secondly, the venue adjustments for Dolly and Lunar New Year moving them to the Heisman field, which we already talked about. And then thirdly, the Deftal Days, which is in March, this year in 2023, we brought in a market and they were great vendors, but I just, I think that we're going to go a different route this year with that. So just wanted to let you all know about that change that probably it'll be more of a celebration of springtime, hope, community, maybe an opportunity for nonprofits in the area to have a booth and have a game in everything ring toss and that kind of thing. We touched on that a little bit last year and then it took a different route. So that's kind of where I'm leaning back towards taking daffodilies this year. So we did want to just look at these dates and see if y'all had any feedback on them. If anything jumps out at you, some of them are backpack events that don't apply to us, but specifically the ACE events, which would be Lunar New Year to Wally, D'Affado, June 10th and what did I just say? Next year are we not planning to do the FIK? Again, no. There is not a plan to do the FIK again. It wasn't intended to be an annual event, but if you'd like to recommend that we can. That was really good. I mean, I didn't expect that big crowd. That's right. You were there. Is it too early to ask like how many like a food vendors and total vendors, I mean commercial vendors, whatever, that'll be, we will be recruiting for Luna New Year or that's something we will be talking about in November. Yeah, we'll get to that in November, but probably it'll be a similar layout as Duali, I would think, around 40. Maybe we could do a little bit more, but yeah, that would be safe. 40, 50. Yeah, because last time people were saying, oh, there are two little food to eat, the little choices, and they want more like food trucks and food vendors. And yeah, that's what are in a much bigger space, because we're in the amphibious area. Yeah, yeah, so yeah. And the budget will be talking, we will be talking about it next. Yeah, okay. We'll get to all that. But specifically, I want to just visit the calendar and see if you have any, if there's any dates that jump out at you that you're like, whoa no that can't, that won't do. Did you say that the lunar new year was locked in already for February 10th for 2024? Yes, for 2024 it is. Okay. We've already signed a contract with the field and everything. Oh okay. So are other items on here? I guess moving down it would be potentially daffodil days. I know that potentially like literary fair is on there for September 29th, potentially moving that to the end of August instead of September. But everything else, the arts festival, let's see, where's Diwali? Diwali, 24th November, 2nd. The actual Diwali is no more fuss, so that is good. We are doing right now. OK. Yeah, I mean, I googled it and tried to stay as close to the date. Juneteenth, we've got June 15th, which is not awesome. It's four days from June 19th, but it's the first Saturday. It's the preceding Saturday. So, rather have it before then after, right? I guess. So, that's where I got that. But do you all have any other comments? 2025, we can look at 2025 is more just to give you an idea of what we're looking at. Of course, it is two years away. A lot can change. Lunar New year in 2025 is January 25th. And per the Google. Okay. Okay. So that one is not locked, right? I probably need to ask, you know, the people from the community, what do they think? Okay. You know, I mean, if every year is like all the places are having, you know, like the same kind of celebration. Sometimes you have so much, like, I mean, the performance group, they have a lot of load on the same day. That's why, I mean, that one is not locked, right? Twenty five is not locked, you're right. Okay, yeah, so I will bring that up again probably in our future meetings and to see whether what they say. I may do some researches when it will be that Stone Mountain or Forsythes County or whatever. Okay, that me back up. It might be also a good opportunity during this year's lunar New Year to kind of talk to people that come and see and get feedback. Then, you know, would you rather at a week before, a week after or the next day or something like that? So don't forget we do have lunar New Year 2024 to talk to broad range of people as well. It did not keep anyone from coming last year. I think itar New Year 2024 to talk to broad range of people as well. They did not keep anyone from coming last year. No. Everyone gave last year. That was great. But yes, certainly want to make it available to as many people as possible and don't want to compete with other events if possible. So those are the kinds of things we want to take into account for sure. Then, yeah, then in 2025, again, we're moving down. We've got Daphnealdays March 8th. That was just how it worked out. So we'll bring the 2025 calendar. This is really just to set it out there, but we'll bring it before Council again about this time next year and when we have firmer dates. So this is just to give you an idea of like, oh wait, you know, like this maybe this isn't the best date. And then- How far out do you lock things in? Is it like you do lock it in within the calendar there? You like you approve the calendar and then you go and get them quickly. There's a three months out. Three months out. Not calendar year, but as soon as council approves it, then I do try to lock it in. So we, so historically this calendar was not approved until not this one, 2022 for example, was approved in January, February of the same year. So we're like four months ahead. Right. Because we have lunar new year now in the in the winter before our first event wasn't until generally like bunny hop in April or late March. So council didn't even approve that year's calendar same year's calendar until first quarter. So since we've added a winter event, we've pushed this process back. So we're, so it's a little bit inflex what we're doing. We did lock in Heisman just because last year we said it was February 10th, Lunar New Year, February 10th. That's when we did the one last year was on Lunar New Year. So it's like, okay, that's what we'll do. But certainly for 2025, now that we're considering what other places are doing, then we can look at that date. I do try to lock in things as soon as I can. As soon as Council approves the 2024 calendar, which we're already in 2024, So our fiscal year starts October 1. So what did I just have? Literary fair and 5K and Diwali and Holly Jolly. Those are all fiscal year 24. So it's just really all confusing. So once they approve the 2024 calendar year calendar, then I can go to certain vendors and say, hey, can I grab the field? Can I get toilets? Can I get the stage like all of those types of things? But for 2025, this is just to give us a starting point and we can talk about it. But 2024 is still, Council hasn't talked about this calendar yet. So aside from Lunar New Year, we do have a blue way on the other ones. Especially if you need a book of field or a venue that gets difficult right now. Right. You need to book in advance. Right. So in 2025, the only potential, just root for discussion discussion is the arts festival is all way on here. It shows that it's on October 25th and 26th. That's not accurate. It would be October 18th, which is the same date as Diwali. And the arts festival cannot change. It has been the third weekend of October for 12 years and we'll remain there. So we will just, we would have to decide another date for D'Ali and they're actually on the same field. So we'd have to do it either the weekend before that we can. But we have time to figure it out. So lunar, lunar celebration happened during the day, right? Not in the evening, right? That's correct. That's what we did last time. Because it's like the winter is not finished. It's kind of you know evening would be kind of cold. Yeah. Yeah, we're really cold. Even what the haters. Even with the haters. Yeah. I think February 10th was, I'm looking at 2025 at January 25th and potentially moving it up a week. So we did it last year, it was also, or this year, I don't know what year anymore I'm confused. But that's what we're looking at. So, are do any of these dates jump out at you? I hear Lunar New Year is something to discuss for 2025. Do Wally something to discuss? Are do you look at any of these and go, oh no, this won't work. As far as the communities concerned, community calendar, anything you know going on, not as much like your personal vacation schedule. But I do care about that. Are we good? We good to go to council with that? The 24 or the 25? 24. Okay, 24 is good. You need motion to take that to councilor, it's good. Okay. We're good. Okay, next item on your agenda is other business, and I'm gonna wear of anything tonight. So that leaves a motion to a second to adjourn. Motion to adjourn, a meeting. A second. to adjourn. Motion to adjourn the meeting. A second. adjourn. Fast and speed.
