PRESENT: Mayor Jack Gurney, Vice Mayor Gene Pillot, Commissioners Fredd Atkins, David Merrill and Nora Patterson, City Manager David Sollenberger, City Auditor and Clerk Billy Robinson, and City Attorney Richard Taylor ABSENT: None PRESIDING: Mayor Jack Gurney The meeting was called to order in accordance with Article IX, Section 4(a) and Section 5(a) of the Charter of the City of Sarasota at 12:02 p.m. City Auditor and Clerk Robinson gave the Invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. 1. ADOPTION RE: RESOLUTION NO. 93R-643, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SARASOTA, FLORIDA, CONCERNING CANVASSING OF RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF MARCH 9, 1993 AND DECLARING RESULTS OF SAME = ADOPTED (AGENDA ITEM I) #1 (0009) through (0129) City Auditor and Clerk Robinson stated that Article IX Section 5 of Sarasota's City Charter requires this meeting for the purpose of delivering the official copy of the results from the Supervisor of Elections to the Mayor. Mr. Robinson presented Mayor Gurney with the election results of March 9, 1993 for the two (2) At-Large Commission seats. Mr. Robinson stated that the number of votes cast for the office of two (2) At-Large City Commissioners was 10,866 with 608 absentee votes, making the total number of votes cast 11,474. Mr. Robinson continued that Harry Adley had received a total of 1,425 votes; Eula T. Bacon, 1,121 votes; Mollie C. Cardamone, 4,233 votes; Dick Lee, 454 votes; Gene M. Pillot, 3,675 votes; and John S. Susce, 566 votes. Mr. Robinson read Resolution No. 93R-643 in its entirety. Mayor Gurney concluded that the City Commission found and declared that Gene M. Pillot and Mollie C. Cardamone were elected as City Commissioners for the City of Sarasota to serve for a term of four (4) years each. On motion of Commissioner Merrill and second of Commissioner Patterson, it was moved to adopt Resolution No. 93R-643. Motion carried unanimously (5 to 0): Atkins, yes; Merrill, yes; Patterson, yes; Pillot, yes; Gurney, yes. 2. ADOPTION RE: RESOLUTION NO. 93R-644, A RESOLUTION OF THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SARASOTA, FLORIDA, AFFIRMING THE ELECTION OF TWO (2) CITY COMMISSION CANDIDATES TO THE CITY ÇOMMISSION; CALLING A SPECIAL MEETING FOR REORGANIEATION OF THE CITY COMMISSION AT 12:00 NOON ON FRIDAY, MARCH 12, 1993; DIRECTING THE CITY AUDITOR AND CLERK TO PROVIDE CERTIFICATES OF ELECTION TO THE SUCCESSFUL CANDIDATES; AND PROVIDING FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE = ADOPTED (AGENDA ITEM II) #1 (0130) through (0193) city Auditor and Clerk Robinson stated that the Charter of the City of Sarasota also requires that the meeting for the new Commissioners to assume office and the reorganization of the City Commission be set at this time. Mr. Robinson read Resolution No. 93R-644 in its entirety. On motion of Commissioner Atkins and second of Commissioner Merrill, it was moved to adopt Resolution 93R-644. Motion carried unanimously (5 to 0): Atkins, yes; Merrill, yes; Patterson, yes; Pillot, yes; Gurney, yes. 3. CITIZENS' INPUT (AGENDA ITEM III) #1 (0194) through (0195) There was no one to speak. 4.
