PRESENT : Mayor Jerome Dupree (arrived at 2:05 p.m.), Vice Mayor David Merrill, Commissioners Mollie Cardamone, and Albert Hogle, City Manager David Sollenberger, City Auditor and Clerk Billy Robinson, and City Attorney Richard Taylor ABSENT: : Commissioner Gene Pillot PRESIDING: Mayor Jerome Dupree The meeting was called to order in accordance with Article IX, Section 6 (a) of the Charter of the City of Sarasota at 2:03 p.m. Deputy City Auditor and Clerk McGowan gave the Invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance. 1. ADOPTION RE: PROPOSED RESOLUTION NO. 99R-1166, CONCERNING THE CANVASSING OF RETURNS OF THE REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTION OF MARCH 9, 1999, AND DECLARING RESULTS OF SAME, ETC. ADOPTED (AGENDA ITEM NO. I) #1 (0030) through (0140) City Auditor and Clerk Robinson stated that the Charter of the City of Sarasota requires a meeting for the purpose of delivering to the Mayor the official copy of the election results from the Supervisor of Elections. City Auditor and Clerk Robinson presented Mayor Dupree with the election results of March 9, 1999, Regular Municipal Election for the District Nos. 1 and 3 Commission seats. City Auditor and Clerk Robinson read proposed Resolution No. 99R-1166 in its entirety which included the following: The number of ballots cast for the Office of City Commissioner in District Nos. 1 and 3 was 2,754 plus 148 absentee ballots, making the total number of ballots cast 2,902. The number of ballots cast for the District No. 1 seat was 1,028 plus 64 absentee ballots, making the total number of valid ballots cast 1,092. The number of ballots cast for the District No. 3 seat was 1,726 plus 84 absentee votes, making the total number of valid ballots cast 1,810. The City Commission declares that Carolyn Mason, District No. 1 Commission seat, and Mary Quillin, District No. 3 Commission seat, have been elected as City Commissioners and will assume office on April 16, 1999, to serve for a term of four years. On motion of Vice Mayor Merrill and second of Commissioner Hogle, it was moved to adopt Resolution No. 99R-1166. Mayor Dupree requested that City Auditor and Clerk Robinson proceed with the roll-call vote. Motion carried unanimously (4 to 0): Cardamone, yes; Dupree, yes; Hogle, yes; Merrill, yes. 2. CITIZENS' INPUT CONCERNING CITY TOPICS (AGENDA ITEM NO. II) #1 (0140) through (0145) There was no one signed up to speak. 3. REMARKS OF COMMISSIONERS, ANNOUNCEMENTS AND ITEMS FOR NEXT AGENDA CITY AUDITOR AND CLERK WILL PROVIDE ELECTION RESULTS FOR THE TWO REFERENDA CONCERNING ENVIRONMENTALIY SENSITIVE LANDS (AGENDA ITEM III) #1 (0145) through (0210) VICE MAYOR MERRILL: A. stated that congratulations are offered to all the candidates for conducting positive campaigns which dealt with local issues; that congratulations are offered to Carolyn Mason and to Mary Quillin on their election. COMMISSIONER HOGLE: : A. stated that congratulations are offered to candidates Carolyn Mason and Mary Quillin for a successful campaign. MAYOR DUPREE: : A. stated that congratulations are offered for the victorious and positive campaigns conducted by the candidates. COMMISSIONER CARDAMONE: A. stated that congratulations are offered to both candidates B. stated that receiving the election results to Question 1, the Ad Valorem Tax Increase Referendum for Environmentally Sensitive Lands, and Question 2, the Bond Referendum for Environmentally Sensitive Lands, by City precinct would be appreciated. C. stated that she will be unable to attend the March 15, 1999, regular Commission meeting due to an out-of-town business trip. 4.
