MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE SARASOTA CITY COMMISSION OF MARCH 1, 1994, AT 4:00 P.M. PRESENT: Mayor Gene Pillot, Vice Mayor Patterson; Commissioners Fredd Atkins and Mollie Cardamone; Deputy City Manager V. Peter Schneider, City Auditor and Clerk Billy Robinson, and Assistant City Attorney Sarah Schenk ABSENT: Commissioner David Merrill PRESIDING: Mayor Gene Pillot The meeting was called to order in accordance with Article III, Section 10, of the Charter of the City of Sarasota at 4:00 p.m. City Auditor and Clerk Robinson gave the invocation followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag. 1. ADOPTION RE: PROPOSED RESOLUTION NO. 94R-717, AMENDING RESOLUTION NO. 94R-707, ADOPTED BY THE CITY COMMISSION OF THE CITY OF SARASOTA, FLORIDA, ON JANUARY 18, 1994, TO CHANGE CERTAIN CONDITIONS FOR THE ISSUANCE OF THE BONDS THEREIN AUTHORIZED; ETC. (TITLE ONLY) - ADOPTED (AGENDA ITEM 1) #1 (0020) through (0200) Mayor Pillot stated that City Manager Sollenberger will be travelling to Atlanta tomorrow to address the Environmental Protection Agency concerning disposal of treated water; therefore, V. Peter Schneider, Deputy City Manager, will handle today's meetings. Mr. Schneider stated that this proposed resolution authorizes refunding of General Obligation Refunding Bonds (of which the Commission has earlier been informed). City Auditor and Clerk Robinson read proposed Resolution No. 94R- 717 by title only. On motion of Commissioner Atkins and second of Commissioner Cardamone, it was moved to adopt Resolution No. 94R-717. Mayor Pillot requested City Auditor and Clerk Robinson to proceed with the roll-call vote. Motion carried unanimously (4 to 0): Atkins, yes; Cardamone, yes; Patterson, yesi Pillot, yes. OTHER MATTERS, REMARKS OF COMMISSIONERS #1 (0102) through (0188) COMMISSIONER ATKINS: A. stated that he met with City Manager Sollenberger and a representative of the Boys & Girls Club of Sarasota regarding a potential agreement to build a Boys & Girls center on a (city-owned) parcel of land in the Newtown area adjacent to the present Boys & Girls Club location on Orange Avenue. B. stated that he met with a representative of Jones Funeral Home regarding moving the present nonconforming use of the business to a purchased parcel of land on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Way. 3.
