There will be an open house on June 7 from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. b. Also a Strawberry Festival on June 14 C. we are planning a Victorian Tea on June 21 Mayor - Mayor Reimer reported the following: 1. Town Updates 2. We have been attending several meetings 3. May 30, we will be attending a "railroad" breakfast meeting 4. Our newsletter will be coming out shortly 5. We will be looking into grant monies for a street sweeper 6. We will be attending the Pa State Mayors' conference in Harrisburg for a cost of$717.98, June 17 through 20.. .a motion was made by Moquin and seconded by Walborn to pay the fees for our Mayor to attend the conference.. all yes 7. We had a junior fire fighter event on Saturday, May17, noon to 8 P.M. 8. Our Berks County Commissioners' visit to our library was a good event 9. The recent ribbon cutting at the new St. Lukes' was nice and well attended 10. A special thank you to all the folks that make Leesport great Police - Chief Keiser reported the following: 1. our monthly report is on file 2. we had a recent retirement of Mark DeBlasi, one of our original officers 3. Ontelaunee and Maidencreek Twps., have the most hours of service of our department 4. We have received letters regarding Canal Street parking, we will be looking into the situation 5. We have a new officer that will begin shortly 6. Act #57 - 2020, is now required of background clearances 7. We had a recent situation with a resident of Washington Street receiving a ticket in front ofhis home during a sporting event, we will cancel the ticket and the borough will provide the resident with a parking permit 8. Our National Night Out will be August 5, at the BC Fairgrounds Fire Company - Chief Quell reported the following: 1. our monthly report is on file 2. we are preparing for our 125th anniversary 3. We had a junior firefighters' event recently, it was well attended 4. We recently put a $125,000 down payment on a new truck with the borough's fire tax monies NBEMS - Moyer reported the following: 1. our monthly report is on file 2. We will have delivery of our new ambulance next week COMMITTEE REPORTS Sewer Madeira reported the following: 1. all is running good at this time We will be working on the Canal Street line shortly, cost to be about $1million 2. we applied for a $500,000 grant to do Canal Street 3. The borough will coordinate the project with Entech 4. Epting project has asked for the sewer authority to lower the gallons represented by our EDUS Code Enforcement - Brad Pflum reported the following: 1. our monthly report is on file 2. the Washington Street property has asked for more time to clean up their yard at our fence 3. an abandoned car was towed on Spring Garden St by our police 4. Monthly Report 2. We are inquiring with the state regarding preemptive controls for our Fire and EMS for the traffic signals 3. We have contacted and met with Eshelman Bus Co., owners of a lot adjacent to Water Street, regarding reconstructing the street and drainage 4. We have been awarded a loan from the State for the repair/reconstruction of our streets and catch basins. .a motion was made by Fronina and seconded by Moquin to adopt and sign Resolution #272 accepting the offer. We need to send an ordinance to DCED.. .a motion was made by Moquin and seconded by Fornina to have our solicitor draft an ordinance for our June meeting. We need a few months to prepare the specs to bid next year, we have lots of roads and catch basins including the Lockhouse area Solicitor- Chris Hartman, Esq., reported the following: 1. Our men have finished the concrete work for drainage around the pool 3. Our lines for our basketball courts will be painted this week 4. We have hired our summer help and have begun their summer training 5. Our pool has developed a leak and we are currently undergoing some repairs, we are having the area scanned before we open this season 6. We have an extension letter from the Epting project until August 20, 2025, a motion was made by Walborn and seconded by Moquin to accept the extension, all yes Roads and Lights Moquin reported the following: 1. Our men have finished replacing the storm water pipe on Shackamaxon St from Butcher Alley to behind the driveway of Growmark and will begin the block from #61 to Butcher Alley shortly 3. The work on Scott Drive/Spring Garden Street has been completed to eliminate the water run off to back yards on N. Centre Avenue 4. Due to the heavy rains lately, we are cleaning out the storm sewer ditch on Shackamaxon Street from the railroad west to the river to accommodate the water flow, we will begin laying storm sewer pipe the length of Shackamaxon Street shortly 5. Our streets have been swept and the stop pad lines will be painted this week 6. We have met with Eshelman, a land owner adjacent to Water Street, regarding reconstructing Water Street and the drainage 7. We are having our fence repaired at our retention pond on Leesport Avenue 8. We have received a $1.1 million loan from the state to do our roads and catch basins 9. The catch basin in front of 267 Main Street needs repairing, we have asked our engineer for assistance since it is on a state road UNFINISHED BUSINESS 1. Our fire company has requested $125,000 from the fire tax monies to put a down payment on a new fire truck, a motion was made by Fronina and seconded by Moquin to give our fire company $125,000 from the fire tax monies for a down payment on a new fire truck, all yes New Business 1. We have a letter ofinterest for a Zoning Hearing Board appointment until 2027 to replace a current member, a motion was made by Moquin and seconded by Goetz to sign Resolution # 273-2025, appointing Ryan Strause to our Zoning Hearing Board until 2027, all yes EMC - Mayor Reimer reported the following: 1. We have training May 28 2. We recently tested our siren and found it was not working. We will have the electrical connection checked and repaired and have a locked electric receptacle put there for our holiday tree 3. We acknowledge the use of our emergency radio for the borough Good and Welfare Our engineer and water chairman have recently been appointed to Chair Elect and Vice Chair Elect to our state water organization...congratulations.
