May 12th, 2025 Cedartown City Commission Meeting City Hall = 201 East Avenue 6:00 p.m. Commissioners Present: Sam Branch, Chairman Matt Foster, Pro-Tem Ryan Casey Jessica Payton Dale Tuck Commissioners Absent: Also Present: Carey Pilgrim, City Attorney Edward Guzman, City Manager Mitzi Allen, City Clerk Amy Orebaugh, Finance Director PUBLIC HEARING = CLOSURE OF A PUBLIC ALLEY BETWEEN LORAINE ST AND VINE ST City Attorney Pilgrim opened the public hearing and asked if there was anyone that wished to speak "for" or "against" the alley closure request. There was no one to speak "for" or 'against" the alley closure and the public hearing was closed. There was no one to speak "for" or 'against" the alley closure and the public hearing was closed. MEETING CALLED TO ORDER At 6:01 pm Commission Chair Branch called the meeting to order. INVOCATION The invocation was given by Andrew Carter and was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance to the flag. CONSIDERATION OF THE CURRENT AGENDA A motion was made by Commissioner Foster, seconded by Commissioner Payton, all voting "Aye" none voting "No", the Commission approved the current agenda. APPROVE COMMISSION AND EXECUTIVE SESSION MINUTES OF APRIL 141H, 2025, SPECIAL CALL MEETING MINUTES OF APRIL 17", 2025 AND WORK SESSION MINUTES OF MAY 5TH, 2025. A motion was made by Commissioner Payton, seconded by Commissioner Casey, all voting "Aye" none voting "No" with Commissioner Tuck abstaining, the Commission approved the Commission and Executive Session Minutes of April 14th, 2025, Special Call Meeting Minutes of April 17th, 2025 and Work Session Meeting Minutes of May 5th, 2025. PRESENTATION - GEORGIA CITIES WEEK ART CONTEST WINNERS Georgia Cities Art Contest Winners for 2025 awards were given to: 1st place - Nayeli Ventura Hernandez 2nd place - Mattie Gravett 3rd place - Rosaura Sontay DELEGATE - TEYANA PRYOR - BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB A motion was made by Commissioner Tuck, seconded by Commissioner Payton, all voting "Aye", none voting "No", 1 the Commission approved the use of the Boys and Girls Club on August 2nd from 11am-3pm for a summer extravaganza event. DELEGATE = NEIDRA CHUBB - ANNUAL SIDS WALK A motion was made by Commissioner Foster, seconded by Commissioner Payton, all voting "Aye", I none voting "No", the Commission approved the annual SIDS walk and event on October 4t, 2025 beginning at 1pm contingent on the signatures of Ideal Bakery, Action Room Billiards and Cedar and Smoke. The event will take place in the same parking lots as the previous year and the walk will occur on Main Street as long as a DOT permit is issued. MANAGERS REPORT The Northwest Georgia Regional Commission will be hosting an Outdoor Recreation Summit on June gth and 10th. This summit will focus on outdoor activities and latest trends in downtown development. Cedartown will have a session to present on June gth focused on our downtown and the Silver Comet Trail. Brad Jones, with POND, has advised that we are getting close to having final construction documents for the Downtown Corridor Enhancement Project. As we finish up Lankford, we will be gearing up to bid the downtown parking lot project out. Lankford Corner's hardscape is almost complete and landscaping is next. The weather has kept delaying this portion of the project, but we are keeping our fingers crossed for a late June opening. Two big concerts have been announced by the Cedartown Performing Arts Center for this fall. The Oak Ridge Boys will be in town on September 11th for their Farewell Tour and Crystal Gayle will be in concert on September 27th. Cedartown Recreation will be hosting a trio of events on Saturday, June 28th. A 5k Race, Bar-B-Que competition, and kickball tournament will all be put on by staff as a way to have adults participate in some kind of recreation programming
