CITY OF SARASOA City ofSarasota Board of Adjustment Minutes January 31, 2024 The following are the motion minutes of the Board of Adjustment meeting held in the City Commission Chambers at City Hall, 1565 1S1 Street, on Wednesday, January 31, 2024 All in attendance stood for the Pledge of Allegiance. The meeting came to order at 1:30 p.m. Ms. Hanlon reminded everyone in attendance to silence their cell phones and to speak into the microphones. Roll call was taken. PRESENT: Olga Hanlon, Chairperson; Tiffany Nesbit, BOA Member; Chad Turnbull, BOA Member; Lawrence Cherry, BOA Member; Alison Christie, General Manager, Development Services, and Secretary to the Board; Angela McLeod, Administrative Assistant, Development Services ABSENT: Mathew Ruch, Vice Chairperson LEGAL COUNSEL: John Shamsey, Assistant City Attorney The October 25, 2023 meeting minutes were approved as submitted. Mr. Shamsey then explained the Quasi-judicial hearing procedures. Ex-parte communications were disclosed. Ms. Christie recited the Pledge ofConduct for all in attendance. Everyone intending to speak was sworn in by Mr. Shamsey. Time Limits were announced. Variance Petition No. 2024-VAR-01. Walt Harris and Barbara Stern, owners, request a reduction of the required 20-foot front yard setback to 12 feet, to allow for the construction of an attached garage with second story accessory dwelling unit. A total variance of 8 feet is requested. Address: 2810 Bay Shore Road. Legal Description: On file in the Zoning Division of the Development Services Department, City of Sarasota. Zoning Code: Table VI-203. Zone district: Residential Single Family 2 (RSF-2). Ms. Christie provided an overview ofVariance Petition No. 24-VAR-01. Ms. Hanlon invited the petitioners to approach the dais. Barbara Stern and Walt Harris, property owners, approached the dais with Consultant, Gina Alexandrov. Ms. Stern presented Variance Petition No. 24-VAR-01. Ms. Stern, Mr. Harris, and Ms. Alexandrov stated their names for the record. The Board briefly questioned the petitioners. There were no public speakers. The hearing was closed. The Board discussed the variances requested. Ms. Nisbet made a motion to approve Variance Petition No. 24-VAR-01. Dr. Turnbull seconded the motion. The motion passed 4-0. (Hanlon - yes; Nisbet- yes; Turnbull - yes; Cherry - yes) Presentation of Topics by Board Members The Board and City Administration briefly discussed the variance request for the purpose of clarity. Presentation of Topics by the City Administration or Legal Counsel to the Board Ms. Christie stated that there would not be a February Board of Adjustment meeting. The Board discussed the possibility of changing the April meeting date. Ms. Christie announced that the Board Member packets will no longer be delivered and asked that the Board Members retrieve their packets from City Hall moving forward.
