MINUTES CITY OF DENTON DENTON PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD North Branch Library - March 10, 2025 After determining that a quorum was present, the Denfon Public Library Board convened on Monday, March 10, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was held at the North Branch Library at 3020 N. Locust, Denton, Texas. PRESENT: Rebecca Fridley, Eva Poole, Ellen Sullivan, Patricia Peters, Kathryn Pole, and Kerol Harrod ABSENT: Also present: Jennifer Bekker and Amanda Brown 1. PRESENTATION FROM MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC None. 2. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION A. LB25-021 Consider approval ofthe minutes ofFebruary 10, 2025. The Board accepted and approved minutes of the February 10, 2025 meeting. Patricia Peters motioned, Kathryn Pole seconded. All in favor. B. LB25-019 The Board received an informational report regarding the Denton Public Library's world language collections. Technical Services Manager, Rachel Reeves, and North Branch Assistant Manager, Kasey Fanucchi, shared information about the types of collections, public input to determine languages offered, and collection selection and maintenance processes for world language materials. Denton Public Library's world languages collections for all ages were refreshed in 2024. Spanish language materials are available at all library locations. South Branch Library also houses a collection oft materials in Chinese. In addition to Spanish and Chinese materials, North Branch Library offers small collections of materials in German, Korean, Japanese, and French. C. LB25-016 The Board received an informational report regarding the Friends ofthe Denton Public Libraries. 1 The Friends will be participating in Library Giving Day on April 1, 2025. The fundraising event supports libraries. The Friends asks Library Board members to. participate by placing a yard sign in their yards. The February Big Book Sale resulted in total sales of $4,691.97. Members of the Friends Executive Board will be joining the library's monthly department virtual meeting in March to provide information to staff about the organization, their programs and projects, and how they support the library. D. LB25-018 The Board received an informational report regarding the Emily Fowler Library Foundation. There have been no changes since the last Library Board meeting. Library staff is coordinating with Foundation Trustees to schedule ai meeting this spring. E. LB25-017 The Board received a report, held a discussion, and considered approval of the following Denton Public Library Policy and associated Agreement. The Library Management Team recommends withdrawal. Should laptop circulation services return in the future, updated policies will be presented to the Library Board. Laptop Circulation Operating Policy Laptop Circulation Guidelme-Agreement The Board approved the recommendation to withdraw. Eva Poole motioned, Patricia Peters and Rebecca Fridley seconded in unison. All in favor. F. LB25-020 The Board received an informational report and held a discussion regarding: Emily Fowler Parking Lot - The two parking lots at Emily Fowler Central Library were restriped at the end of February. Both lots will be completely redone later this year, but the restriping was necessary at this time to meet ADA standards. DPL University Staff Training - The Library is coordinating staff training opportunities to grow skills, expand professional knowledge, and learn about best practices in the City of Denton and the library field. Trainings include informal mini-trainings at monthly department virtual meetings, scheduled in-person and virtual training classes (1-2 hours), and team- specific tours of other libraries. Examples include: how to become involved in professional organizations, strategic thinking, stress management, using MS Planner for project management, and incident management. Upcoming trainings include: introduction to the Friends of the Denton Public Libraries, active shooter training, tour of an area library 2 for library leadership team, tour of an area library for youth services team, City of Denton grant process, and other topics. South Branch Manager Position - The South Branch Manager position will be posting shortly. The library hopes to do interviews the second week in April. TMLDA Achievement ofi Excellence in Libraries Award - Denton Public Library has been awarded the Texas Municipal Library Directors Association (TMLDA) Achievement of Excellence in Libraries award. To qualify for the award, libraries must exhibit excellence across various criteria including serving underserved and special populations, enhancing services, marketing, promoting cultural, topical, and educational programming, providing literacy support, providing summer reading clubs, pursuing collaborative efforts, supporting workforce development, providing for digital inclusion, and comprehensively training staff. Library Staff Presenting at Texas Library Association Conference - Denton Public Library staff members are presenting several educational sessions at the Texas Library Association Conference this year.
