MINUTES CITY OF DENTON DENTON PUBLIC LIBRARY BOARD Emily Fowler Central Library - February 10, 2025 After determining that a quorum was present, the Denton Public Library Board convened on Monday, February 10, at 5:30 p.m. The meeting was held at the Emily Fowler Central Library at 502 Oakland Street, Denton, Texas. PRESENT: Kerol Harrod, Rebecca Fridley, Kathryn Pole, Patricia Peters, Eva Poole, and Ellen Sullivan ABSENT: Also present: Jennifer Bekker and Marcella Lunn 1. PRESENTATION FROM MEMBERS OF THE PUBLIC None. 2. ITEMS FOR CONSIDERATION A. LB25-011 Consider approval ofthe minutes of January 13, 2024. The Board accepted and approved minutes oft the December 9, 2024 meeting. Rebecca Fridley motioned, Eva Poole seconded, all in favor. B. LB25-015 The Board received an informational report regarding the Denton Public Library's Special Collections department. Laura Douglas, Assistant Branch Manager, and head of Special Collections shared information about the collections, resources, and services. Denton Public Library's Special Collections department includes local history, genealogy, Texana, and a Municipal Archive. Housed at the Emily Fowler Central Library, the Special Collections department works with community members, local and state organizations, and researchers from across the country to provide access to unique historical records and data. C. LB25-014 The Board received an informational report regarding the Friends of the Denton Public Libraries. The Executive Board of the Friends ofthe Denton Public Libraries met Thursday, January 16. The library submitted 2025 funding requests, which were approved. 1 The Friends will be participating in Library Giving Day on April 1, 2025. The fundraising event supports libraries. The Friends will receive yard signs and ask library staff, Friends members, Library Board members, and Emily Fowler Library Foundation Trustees to participate by placing a yard sign in their yards. The group discussed the February book sale and voted to approve a new Executive Board Member. The Friends will expand the Moving Stories initiative to include one additional site in 2025. D. LB25-013 The Board received an informational report regarding the Emily Fowler Library Foundation. There have been no changes since the last Library Board meeting. Library staff is coordinating with Foundation Trustees to schedule a meeting this spring. E. LB25-012 The Board received an informational report and held a discussion regarding: FY25/26 Budget Planning - Planning for the 2025/2026 fiscal year has begun. The department follows the City of Denton budget process each year. Credit Card Payments at Print Release Stations - Library staff are working with Treasury to activate the ability to take credit card payments at print release stations at each library branch. We hope to have the service available by May. Staff Development Day - The annual library staff development day is Friday, February 21, 2025. All three library facilities will be closed to allow all library staff to meet for a day oft training and professional development. Topics on this year's agenda include strategic thinking and planning, marketing, outreach 101, wellness and self-care when serving the public, resource and collection demos, switch game demonstrations, and an overview ofthe library's strategic plan. The day includes a working lunch with a presentation from the City Manager's Office. CloudLibrary Update - CloudLibrary, the ebook and digital audiobook platform used by Denton Public Library patrons, recently had a branding update. The new logo features a blue, green, and yellow cloud design. The vendor is creating updated marketing materials later this spring. All service features remain the same. 3.
