CITY OF SAINT MARYS COUNCIL SPECIAL 279 MEETING MAY 29, 2025 CALL TO ORDER A Special Council meeting of the City of Saint Marys was called to order by Mayor Lyle Garner on Thursday, May 29, 2025, at 5:00 p.m. This meeting was held at the St. Marys Community Pool, 498 Wolfel Avenue. Notice of this meeting was sent to Council on May 23, 2025, posted at City Hall, and published in the Daily Press. PLEDGE TO THE FLAG ROLL CALL Mayor Lyle Garner, Deputy Mayor Shane Schneider, Nedward Jacob, Jerome Sorg, Anthony Gregory, Joe Sarginger, Manager Joseph Fleming, Solicitor Lauren Brennen, and Recording Secretary Rachael Hughes. Stephen Bagley was excused. City Staff: Director of Parks and Recreation Dani Kugler and Finance Director Charles Nunamaker. VISITORS Dawson Krug, Angie Neshadka, Angela Regulski, Kim Fenice, Greg Gebauer, Nanette Cordero, Char Geci, Lynne Mulcahy, Kathy Sarginger, Heather Kocjancic, Aaron Straub, Kelly Breindel, Travis Reed, Tracey Duncan, and Russ Snelick. CITIZEN COMMENTS ON Nanette Cordero expressed her curiosity about the proposal AGENDA TOPICS process which was clarified by Recreation Board member Travis Reed, and Recreation Board Vice-Chairperson Greg Gebauer. She asked if there were other options to tackle the project, such as leaving the building or specific parts and only replacing others. Greg Gebauer answered by referencing the feasibility study and Coumsiman-Hunsaker's recommendation that nothing be reused. TOPIC OF DISCUSSION: Community Pool Maintenance Supervisor Russ Snelick stated Follow up on Community Pool that the maintenance that is needed on the pool every season is Feasibility Study more than he can keep up with. Councilman Joe Sarginger questioned the $10 million price tag for a new pool and requested a breakdown of costs. He suggested getting a direct quote from a pool construction company and an itemized list of prices from Counsilman- Hunsaker. Recreation Board member Kelly Breindel stated that she has done research on other pools of the same size in Ohio and Pennsylvania and prices are comparable to the quote received. 280 CITY OF SAINT MARYS COUNCIL SPECIAL MEETING MAY 29, 2025 Councilman Shane Schneider brought up funding options and the need for grants, bonds, fundraising, and an increase in taxes. Mayor Garner suggested putting a referendum on the fall ballot to get an idea if residents would want a pool knowing their taxes would be increased yearly.
