Staff: City Manager Cohilas, Interim City Clerk Blount, City Financial Officer Wall Notice is hereby given that the City of Hampton Mayor and City Council will hold a Public Hearing on February 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. and 6:30 p.m. at Hampton City Hall located at 17 East Main Street, Hampton, Georgia for the following purposes: SUBJECT: HB 581 - FLOATING HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION AND FLOST To consider all factors pertaining to House Bill 581 and hear from the Public whether or not the City of Hampton should opt out of the floating Homestead Exemption & FLOST. Mayor called the meeting to order at 10:00 a.m. City Financial Officer Ed Wall presented the House Bill 581 and explained the benefits. Recommends to stay opted in because it doesn't hurt and it opens us up to receive FLOST funds. Mayor opened the floor for Public Comment that were for staying opted in HB 581 No speakers Mayor opened the floor for Public Comment that were against staying in and wanted to opt-out of HB 581 No speakers Our mission is to deliver high quality, responsive and effective municipal services to those who live, work, do business and visit our community. Mayor opened up for questions from the Council Does HB581 affect the current homestead exemptions at all? NO Is the frozen clause better than HB581? YES How long does the Frozen Clause last?
