Per council request earlier this year, we will keep them up for Flag Day and the 4th of July. Also reported that the road project near the sewer plant remains on schedule. The engineering design is expected to be completed by the end of June, with the project going out to bid in July. The City anticipates awarding the contract in August or September. Community & Economic Development Director Quintana shared two brief updates. First, a local ousiness owner recently opened a new taqueria, Taqueria Colima, which Quintana visited last week and praised for its excellent food. Second, construction has officially begun on the Maple Meadows development. The project will roll out in multiple phases, with Phases 1 and 2 including a total of 160 affordable housing units and various community amenities. Quintana noted that the project is moving forward with substantial activity on site. He also mentioned attending the fair and associated ceremonies, which he enjoyed. Finance Director Williams reported continued work on the upcoming budget, noting ongoing meetings with Robert and plans to present it at the next Council meeting. She also shared that she, along with the Police Chief, PD staff, and Director Wisener, participated in a special event for approximately 600 special needs children in Madera County. She expressed gratitude to City staff for their involvement and emphasized the importance and humbling nature of engaging with the community through such events. Recreation & Community Engagement Director Wisener reported that she is continuing to work on coordinating multiple upcoming events, noting it is a particularly busy time. She is focused on staying organized and managing the workload. Stacy also announced that open swim will begin on June 9. City Administrator Pruett reported continued progress on labor negotiations and budget planning in coordination with Director Williams. He recently completed a technical internal controls education course and participated in the fair and parade. Following an incident at the parade, he will be meeting with Park staff, including Director Rogers and Deputy Director Roman, to create a plan to prevent similar issues in the future. They may involve other agencies if needed and will report back with a finalized plan. The City Administrator also held a call with the PR team from the North Fork Casino. The casino team is interested in starting monthly or quarterly coordination meetings involving the City, Madera County, and the Tribe to collaborate through the construction phase and beyond. He noted that one councilmember may be needed to participate in these meetings and will share more information as details develop. Additionally, he provided an update on refunding the CFD and met with Townsend, a grant writing firm the City has worked with previously. They are exploring options to renew grant writing services, with Townsend offering a team introduction and potential proposal. The City is evaluating firms to help secure future funding opportunities.
