BURKE COUNTY BOARD OF ELECTIONS 2128 SOUTH STERLING STREET-SUITE 100 MORGANTON NC 28655 MONDAY MAY 12, 2025 REGULAR MEETING Attending; LH Kirksey, Anthony Iovino, Sandi Walker, and Linda Walker. Absent; Beverly Carlton Staff, Kenny Rhyne Guests; Dot Williams, Barbara Myers, Julie Pepper, Tim Buff, Tracey Stamey, Donna Wojcik, Rhonda Diane Scott, Sharon Everhart, and Marty Queen Chairman LH Kirksey called the meeting to order at 9:30AM, led the Pledge of Allegiance, followed by a moment of silence. Public comments: Barbara Myers expressed a concern on citizen input on election matters. Tim Buff thanked the board for their work and praised the board for their dedication. Linda Walker made the motion to approve the agenda as presented. All approved. Linda Walker made the motion to approve the minutes of the meeting for April 08, 2025, as presented. All approved, Business: Representative Hugh Blackwell was scheduled to attend the May meeting which had been moved to Monday May 12, 2025, to accommodate Representative Blackwell's schedule. Rep. Blackwell sent a text to Anthony Iovino on Sunday evening, May 11, 2025. "Ijust realized that I cannot make the meeting with election board members tomorrow morning because I had to come back to Raleigh early for budget meetings. Can you please let Kenny know and give him my apologies for this late cancellation?" Director Rhyne noted he had received a call From Rep. Blackwell's office earlier this morning. Linda Walker expressed her disappointment that legislators have made no attempts to interact with board members on proposed legislation that affects what we do. Updates from Director Kenny Rhyne. NCOA 2nd mailing is 329. He explained for the benefit of our visitors (NCOA) National Change of Address is performed by the Board ofElections twice a year from information sent to the board from the Post Office concerning individuals that have filed a change of address with the Post Office. He explained the procedure of sending out to all on the list which was 400 mailed out in March. The office has made 65 corrections from information received from the first mailing. Information returned in the second mailing will help determine the status of those on this list. Filing for municipal elections will be July 7 8am to July 18 noon. The municipalities include Connelly Springs, Drexel, Glen Alpine, Hickory Long View, Morganton, Rhodhiss, and Valdese. The Board of! Elections budget is up to date and all bills are paid. The Supreme Court race that was pending has been settled with the concession of. Justice Griftin. The race will be certified by the State Board of Elections at their next meeting. Board comments. Anthony Iovino expressed his disappointment at Representative Blackwell's cancellation. Next meeting will be June 10, 2025. Swearing in of the new board will be Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at 12:00 noon.
