Hall called the City of South Daytona Community Trust Meeting to order at 6:00 pm. Roll Call: Present: Chairman William C. Hall Director Lisa O'Neal Director Doug Quartier Director Eric Sander Director Brandon Young President James L. Gillis, Jr. Item 3: Approval of Minutes for South Daytona Community Trust = May 10, 2022. Motion by Director Brandon Young to approve the minutes for the May 10, 2022, meeting. Second by Director Lisa O'Neal. Motion carried unanimously. Item 4: Consideration of awarding two scholarships from the South Daytona Community Trust in the amount of $1,500 each to Kiersten Walker and Lauren Duff for their outstanding academic accomplishments. President Gillis explained the annual academic scholarship was created by the Chairman and Board of Directors of the South Daytona Community Trust in 2020. The purpose of the scholarship was to recognize a high school senior from South Daytona who bettered their community through volunteerism while maintaining a 3.0 GPA in their schoolwork. One scholarship is to be awarded each year in the amount of $1,500 paid to the successful applicant's college, university or trade school. Mr. Gillis said this year, the City received two applications for the South Daytona Community Trust 2024 scholarship. Both are outstanding students, deserving of the scholarship. Kiersten Walker has a weighted GPA of 3.6568 GPA from Atlantic High School. She volunteers at the school and her church. A copy of her volunteerism essay has been attached for your review. Kiersten has been accepted into Stetson University and will be enrolling in the Health Services program. Lauren Duff has a weighted GPA of 4.57 from Xceed DME Academy. She also volunteers at her school and church. A copy of her volunteerism essay has been attached for your review. Her goal is to be an Elementary School Teacher and she has been accepted into Daytona State College. Due to the outstanding nature of the applications and stellar quality of the applicants, staff is recommending that the South Daytona Community Trust Scholarship for fiscal year 2024 be awarded to both Lauren Duff and Kiersten Walker for their outstanding accomplishments. A motion was made by Director Brandon Young to amend the motion to include the third applicant, Mr. Enrico Joseph Sita III, for the scholarship award. The amended motion is to have the scholarship awarded to three individuals Lauren Duff, Kiersten Walker and Enrico Joseph Sita III. Second by Director Doug Quartier.
