Commissioner's Meeting: February 18, 2025 5pm The Bacon County Board of Commissioners held their regular monthly meeting on February 18, 2025 at 5pm. Present: Chairman Shane Taylor, Commissioners Lee Hagans, Rusty Sears, Lonann Sweat, Corey Tyre and Sammy Boatright. Others Present: Charley Medders, Gail Fiveash, Cabe Cartledge, Andy Batten, Danny Turner, Keith Morris County Attorney and Tristara Diaz - The Alma Times. Motion carried. Judges Retirement Resolution: Commissioner Tyre made the motion to approve the following Resolution, seconded by Commissioner Hagans. Motion carried. A RESOLUTION TO PROVIDE FOR LOCAL SUPPLEMENTS FOR RETIRED JUDGES AND SURVIVING SPOUSES OF RETIRED JUDGES, TO PROVIDE FOR AN EFFECTIVE DATE, AND OTHER RELATED PROVISIONS. WHEREAS, The Waycross Judicial Circuit is comprised ofthe Counties of Bacon, Coffee, Ware, Brantley, Pierce, and Charlton; each of said counties pay the Superior Court Judges a supplement to the State-paid salary; WHEREAS, there are currently four (4) Superior Court Judges serving in the Waycross Judicial Circuit; WHEREAS, O.C.G.A. $47-23-106 authorizes counties to pay a supplement to Judges upon their retirement and thereafter to a beneficiary of any deceased Superior CourtJudge; WHEREAS, the Superior Court Judges of the Circuit have requested a supplement upon their retirement as authorized by law; and WHEREAS, such request is reasonable in all respects after many years of service. NOW THEREFORE, BASED UPON THE ABOVE RECITATIONS AND OTHER CONSIDERATIONS, BE IT HEREBY RESOLVED BY MAJORITY VOTE OF THE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS OF BACON COUNTY AS FOLLOWS: Any Judge oft the Waycross Judicial Circuit shall. Upon his retirement from active service and eligibility for retirement payments under a State of Georgia Judicial Retirement System, receive a retirement supplement from Bacon County as oft the date such Judge discontinues active service. Such retirement supplement shall be in an amount equal to the percentage that his State of Georgia retirement payments are to his salary used to determine judicial retirement from the State of Georgia as an active Judge (the State retirement percentage), multiplied by the county salary supplement las received by said Judge from Bacon County. In the event ofthe death of a retired Judge, the surviving spouse of said deceased retired Judge shall be entitled to one-half of the benefit payable to the deceased retired Judge for the duration oft the life of said surviving spouse. In the event of the death of a Judge net yet retired but eligible for retirement, the surviving spouse of deceased Judge shall be entitled to one-half ofthe benefit payable to such deceased Judge had he or she been retired on the date of his or her death, for the duration oft the life of said surviving spouse. This resolution shall apply to Superior Court Judges oft the Waycross Judicial Circuit who are active Judges upon enactment of this resolution. Effective Date: This resolution is effective upon its date of adoption. Automatic Repealer: The terms of this resolution shall be automatically repealed ifthe State fails to enact a judicial compensation restructuring plan and the Judges oft the Superior Court ofthe Waycross Judicial Circuit fail to opt in to such State Judicial compensation restructuring plan within one year after adoption of such State Judicial compensation restricting plan, the intent ofthis repealer being that the County shall not be obligated to pay active Judges supplements, and at the same time, pay retired Judges retirement on supplements. Motion carried. Archiving of Meetings, Minutes and Agendas - $700.00 to Build: The cost to build a program to add Meetings, Minutes and Agendas to the County's website will be $700.00. Commissioner Hagans made the motion to approves, seconded by Commissioner Sweat. Motion carried. Lease on Excavator: Two quotes were received. Caterpillar $238,142.00 and John Deere $307,200.00. Commissioner Sweat made the motion to table, seconded by Commissioner Tyre. Motion carried. Recreation Department - Tennis Courts: The cost to re-do the tennis courts at the Rec. Department will be $78,500.00. The cost will be paid from the Timber Account. Commissioner Sears made the motion to approve, seconded by Commissioner Hagans. Motion carried. Debris Collection Extension: The State is picking up the 25% SO it is back at 100% funding. Deadline is March 24, 2025. (No vote was needed) Holiday- Good Friday: Commissioner Tyre made the motion to add Good Friday to the Holiday list for County Employees, seconded by Commissioner Hagans. Motion carried.
