CITY OF BOWIE PARKS BOARD MEETING MINUTES FEBRUARY 27, 2025 Attendance: Chairperson Margin Latham (Facilitator), Clyde Johnson, Bonnie Kinder, Michael Eichler, Jennifer Clark, Kristi Bates, Council Woman Donna Ashley, and Janice Blahuta. Call to Order: Margin called the meeting to order at 5:33PM. Approval of Minutes: Margin entertains a motion to accept the minutes of the January 23, 2025 meeting, Jennifer motioned, Janice seconded, motion carried. Old Business: Green Building at Second Monday: Janice asks ift this building can be used for Pickle Ball. Kristi says that will not happen. Michael says he does not know what is going on with this. Bonnie says the issue is restrooms. It was suggested that we get the police to lock them at 10PM when everything closed, nothing has come of that. Parks Board Budget: Bonnie says money for1 the Parks Board is not rolled over. Donna says in budget that says Parks Board $100,000. Bonnie says this is a restricted fund. Spending is taken to the City Council for approval. Walking Trail: Donna asks if the Parks Board is allowed to get bids from private companies, as well as from Stoney at the City, answer, yes. Michael says if we are not going to do the pickle ball at Meyers Park, he proposes to refinish the walking trail and the floor of the metal building across from the Community Center. Janice makes a motion to have a new floor for the metal building across from the Community Center and repair as much of the walking trail that we have funds for, Michael seconded, motion carried. Michael will get bids and bring them to the next meeting. He will also talk to EDC about this. Pickle Ball Court: $15,000 has been ear-marked by the Parks Board for Pickle Ball Court. Michael says the man that did the resurfacing of the Court at Pelham Park is wanting to give a bid for the court at Meyers Park. Jennifer says we need to table Pickle Ball for now, all agree. Resurfaced Pickle Ball Court at Pelham Park: Clyde will get the bench moved to there. Christmas Fantasy: Jennifer asks about this. Margin says this was an idea Jose had brought to the board. It would be around the walking trail - story trail with lights in the trees. Itis said there is a company that does this. We could take donations. Jennifer will get with Jose about this. Music Festival: Bonnie says there will be a Music Festival June 14th with Vendors, Food Trucks, etc. Chicken & Bread Days: Bonnie says Chicken and Bread Days in October in Pelham Park with be the 100th birthday. ADIOURNMENT: Margin adjourns the meeting at 6:45PM.
