TOWN OF VANCEBORO BOARD OF ALDERMAN MEETING Held their regular monthly meeting on April 7, 2025 at 7:00 PM in the. Jimmie L. Morris Boardroom I. Call to order by Mayor Chad Braxton. II. Roll call Those Present: Mayor Chad Braxton, Alderman Steve Belrose, Alderman Thad Jones, Alderman Hud Jordan, Alderman Russell Ipock and Alderman Todd McMillen. III. Invocation by Alderman Jones. IV. Pledge of Allegiance. V. Approval of minutes from last meeting. Alderman McMillen made a motion to approve minutes. Motion was seconded by Alderman Jordan and carried. Vote 5-0. VI. Approval of Cash Receipts and Disbursements. Alderman Belrose made a motion to pay bills. Motion was seconded by Alderman Ipock and carried. Vote 5-0. VII. Public Comment. Marilyn Farr of 229 James Street stated that she has been visiting the Town for over 20 years. Whether she is here or not her water bill is still $86.20 each month. Why? VIII. State Champion Wrestler- JJ Johnson Mayor Braxton introduced a special guest, JJ Johnson. He is the State Wrestling Champion for the 150Ib weight division. This has only been accomplished once before. JJ has the most wrestling wins in WCHS history. We are very proud of his accomplishments. IX. Police Report was presented by Chief Wise. I got with Officer Winnings and Corporal Johnson since I was not here the majority oflast month. My start date was March 19th. We had four businesses broken into, and an arrest was made and items were returned. There was a wreck that caused property damage to two yards that resulted in a DWI with arrest. The Town has renewed the SRO contract for the remainder of the school year. Corporal Johnson was able to extinguish a car fire on Hwy 17 while coming to work. His quick response saved a person's life and property. BLET has increased its hours to complete. The class is more scenario based. I have spoken to Craven BLET class on the possibility of obtaining some reserve officers for the department. X. Mayor's Reports. Birthdays this month include Assistant Town Clerk Brittany Mumford, Public Works employee Nick Crosby, and Chief Wise. Prayers go out to the family of] Lennie Tripp. Town Hall will be closed on April 18 in observance of Good Friday. Carlton Gideon will be at the Budget Workshop on April 29th to present the subdivision ordinance. Public hearing for the subdivision ordinance will be held on May 5th. Strawberry Festival committee will meet tomorrow. We are still in need ofvolunteers. Linda Thomas has been working with the State to hold a presentation for the historical marker in town. We were hoping to have the ceremony on May 2nd but haven't heard anything back from the State if they would be available to attend. Next recycle date will be April 24th. Durango is back on the road after being out of commission for months. Alderman Belrose will have City of New Bern come sweep our streets before the festival. $1609.22 has been collected from Debt S/O. Congratulations to Alderman Ipock's daughter on her marriage. April 29th the auditor will be here to present the 2023 audit. The LGC has accepted the audit and 2024 is now being worked on. Met with US Senator Ted Budd about the water and sewer needs of the Town. Former Alderman Dunn had a premature baby, keep them in prayer. Contractors are in Town trimming trees. Road paving was suppose to start today but has been postponed. May 12th we will tour the water and sewer plant at 6 pm. We will hold off until next month with deciding on members for Planning and Zoning Board. My daughter Sydney completed her Masters at ECU and passed her CPA exam. She has also purchased a house here in Town. XI. Alderman Reports. Alderman Jordan stated the grass around Town is starting to get out of control. Alderman Belrose stated a resident of Stewart Park complained of having trouble getting out onto Main Street because of the bend in the road and cars parking along the side. Alderman Belrose made a motion to have state change speed limit to 25 until reaching the Food Mart. Vote 2-3. Motion was denied. Alderman McMillen, Alderman Jones, and Alderman Ipock voted against. The Strawberry Festival meeting will be at the school field tomorrow at 6 pm. Alderman Ipock stated Sydney Braxton made a great presentation about the Vanceboro Strawberry Festival to the Rotary Club. Meeting Minutes April 7, 2025 Alderman Jones stated a resident on Buck Lane questioned if rumble strips could be placed in front of new houses being built to slow traffic. Several residents thanked public works for prompt pick up of limbs. Alderman McMillen stated two rockers were ordered for the playground. They should arrive in 6-8 weeks. Until then Town should temporarily fill in holes since school is about to let out. XII.
