City Manager Frank Rodriguez III-- City Manager's Report City Manager Frank Rodriguez III publicly recognized and praised the Fort Stockton Police Department for their continued dediƧation to public safety. He highlighted the leadership of Chief Ernesto Velasquez, who assumed the role on February 6, 2023. Since taking office, Chief Velasquez has demonstrated a strong commitment to the community, exhibiting exceptional work ethic and professionalism. He has emphasized collaboration with other agencies to improve the safety and well-being of Fort Stockton. City Manager Frank Rodriguez III commended ChiefVelasquezs management approach, noting his dedication to mentoring officers, fostering skill development, and promoting a culture of guidance and support within the department. Recently, the Police Department secured grant funding that covered the purchase of six brand new Chevrolet Tahoes. The grant also included the cost of radio systems, graphics, and other essential modifications. City Manager Frank Rodriguez III credited the successful acquisition ofthe funds to the collaborative efforts of Finance Director Maria Rodriguez and Chief Velasquez. He also expressed gratitude to Congressman Tony Gonzalez for the opportunity to apply for the grant. In addition, City Manager Frank Rodriguez III acknowledged the vital work of Fort Stockton Police Department' S Dispatch Supervisor Mariam De La Rosa, along with dispatchers Nina Rife, Paula Martinez, and Heidi Castro. Chief of Police Ernesto Velasquez explained that this resolution would authorize the Fort Stockton Police Department to apply for the "Click It or Ticket" STEP Grant Program through the Texas Department of Transportation. The grant would support enhanced traffic enforcement focused on seat belt usage in both cars and trucks throughout the city. The enforcement period would take place over approximately two weeks, beginning in late May. Information about the campaign will also be shared on the department' 's social media platforms and website.
