Rhonda Cargill addressed the City Council regarding the Chowchilla Friends of the Library's fundraiser, Chapters in Bloom Garden Tour and Luncheon. COUNCIL AND STAFF VERBAL REPORTS = Section 2 2.1 COUNCIL VERBAL REPORTS Legislative, Collaborative Agency, Ad Hoc Council Member Chavez attended the Chowchilla Fair dinner. Council Member Ahmed attended ICSC Monterey. Council Member Barragan attended the Chowchilla Fair dinner and ICSC Monterey. Mayor Smith attended via Zoom Stephens school award presentation for honesty. 2.2 STAFF VERBAL REPORTS Police Chief Palmer went over departmental stats since the last council meeting. Reported on a commercial burglary in which LPR's purchased with Measure N help track down and arrest the suspects within 12 hours. The LPR's also helped capture a wanted person who committed crime in Madera that was hiding in Chowchilla. CSO Avalos will be recognized by CAPMC for her work with child forensics victims. Reported on fatal crash vehicle V an adult pedestrian on Trinity. Fire Chief Gaumnitz also reported out departmental stats since last meeting and gave additional information regarding staffing. Public Works Director Rogers reported Public Works completed and submitted Congressionally Directed Spending requests to Senators Padilla and Schiff for the Roundabouts project. Had a pre-bid meeting for the Runway Rehabilitation project. where 9 contractors attended. Bids are due at the end of the month. Next week, City staff will be working with Cornerstone Church on the spring volunteer event. The big project this year is painting the Ed Ray concession stand along with other projects. And finally, still working on FY 25/26 draft budgets to submit to Finance. Community & Economic Development Director Quintana reaching out to local businesses to see how to best support them; issued 60 permits last week; facilitating ventures with other companies. Deputy Director of Recreation & Community Engagement Wisener focused on Saturday's Easter event. Summer sponsorships are coming in well from local businesses. IT System Administrator Berrocal updated council on current projects. City Clerk McClendon is working on 25/26 budget for City Clerk and Transit departments. City Council Meeting MINUTES April 8, 2025 City Administrator Pruett attended ICSC Monterey, obtained a few good leads and follow-ups from last conference; Community Task Force meeting; labor negotiations; and took some personal time to travel with family to Reno for a volleyball tournament. Motion passed unanimously with Mayor Pro Tem Troost absent. PUBLIC HEARINGS - Section 4 4.1 Introduction and First Reading of an Ordinance Amending Chowchilla Municipal Code Section 2.04.110 - Council Salaries to Increase City Council Member Salaries to the Maximum Allowable Amount (Lerner) Mayor Smith opened the public hearing at 4:43 p.m. No one came forward for or against the item. Mayor Smith closed the public hearing at 4:44 p.m. Motion by Council Member Chavez, Seconded by Council Member Barragan to Approve the introduction and waive the first reading of an ordinance amending chowchilla municipal code section 2.04.110 = Council Salaries to increase city council member salaries to the maximum allowable amount. Motion passed with Mayor Pro Tem Troost absent.
