Officers continue to patrol the Village and improve our community-oriented policing activities. - - have no major incidents to report. I want to commend all Officers for doing a great job at keeping the Village safe. The applicant for our Officer position is scheduled to take the Basic Law Enforcement Exam on 4/17/2024; if successful we can continue with the certification process. On March, 18th, Chief Turbyfill, and Officer Brown completed Forensic Tests for Alcohol training recertification in Boone. Our entire staff is in the process of completing Mandatory In-Service Training. The importance of continued training and further education will assist our department in providing quality law enforcement to the Village. On 3/14, Chief Turbyfill and Officer Linkous investigated a reported gift card scam at a local business. Scammers contacted an employee and instructed them to purchase gift cards. In these cases the scammers are overseas, and nearly impossible to locate. Please be aware of these types of scams, do not purchase gift cards and give the numbers to someone over the phone. On 3/23, Officer Clark was called to Sugar Mountain Resort. Officer Clark Located a male subject who had skied down the ski area after closing. The male subject was arrested for second-degree trespass. On 03/26, Officer Brown conducted a traffic stop at the Food Lion Shopping Center. Officer Brown found that the driver had a revoked driver's license and an order for arrest for failing to appear in court. During the investigation Officer Brown located 1.5 Grams of Methamphetamine on the driver. The driver of the vehicle was charged with possession of Methamphetamine, and driving on a suspended license. Lowes Foods reported a suspicious person who was harassing staff on 4/2. Officer Linkous located the male subject, who had refused to vacate the property. Officer Linkous arrested the subject and charged him with second-degree trespass, and resisting an officer. It was later found that the male subject assaulted a Lowes Foods employee; an additional charge of assault on a female was added.
