I would like to voice my support on the Cambria Skate Park getting done. I don't understand why there is such a delay in breaking ground. Everything had already been approved and permits in place. Time is running out! Our town's children need this! They are having to go out of town to find a skate park. That's ridiculous! When I was a kid growing up in Southern California I had a neighbor who was a skateboarder and I would go with his mother to watch him compete. He became a professional skateboarder. So many fun memories! I still enjoy watching to this day! It is a wonderful sport that could lead to competitions, possibly even in the Olympics! Please push this project forward. Stop delaying! Our sweet town needs it for the kids! Thank you for you consideration. Your commitment to the youth in our community is important. Your donation of$175,000 from the General Fund as well as the $600,000 Grant you secured shows your commitment to the project. I also want to acknowledge the hard work and dedication of Skate Cambria fundraising. It appears the current funding from CCSD, Skate Cambria and community donations is very close to the preliminary estimates submitted to the District. There is one estimate which is significantly higher, and should not be considered in the running. Especially since they are not experienced in skate park construction. I also highly recommend the District explore using the park designer, Spohn Ranch, as a contractor for the project. They provided the plans and specifications and are highly qualified, having built numerous skateparks under various site conditions. They also have expressed a high level of interest to see the project completed and become an asset to our community. It seems logical since the funds being held could get a significant portion oft the project, if not all ofi it completed, that the District proceed with formal bidding and construction as current fundraising continues. Several other skateparks in our County have portable toilets installed instead of permanent bathrooms. They seem to service the park users just fine. This could save at least $200,000 from the construction costs. I understand it may be a County regulation to have aj permanent bathroom facility, however it may be worth pursuing a waiver on that requirement. A suggestion might be to initially use a temporary toilet SO the skatepark can be completed and be in use sooner. The permanent bathroom, if required, could be built at a later date. There are SO few options for the kids in our community, they deserve to have a permanent facility that positively promotes activity, health and well being. This skatepark will be a place for locals and tourists in a variety of ages. It will be a welcome addition to our community. As a General Contractor and former skateboarder. I approve this message! Please share with the public the proposal by Spohn Ranch who specializes in building skate parks. The demand set forth at today's meeting is requesting Skate Cambria funds to be deposited into CCSD General Fund : I suggest that funds remain in the Skate Cambria possession and be drawn on when invoices have been submitted. This project represents in my opinion a lack of trust, stall tactics, and disrespect to our Community not to mention lack of transparency. With this being said and time passed since the $178,000.00 was proposed I recommend that CCSD Board of Directors allocate an additional $50,000.00 budget adjustment to close the gap and move this project forward in a reasonable manner. Dear Board and General Manager 9 A few years ago the CCSD board voted to repair the parent built skate park on Main Street. Contrary to that vote the Pro's commission (not committee ) decided it should be torn down and directed Carlos to do SO . Pro's didn't have the authority to remove it the board directive was REPAIR (see minutes oft the pros commission) . To complete the new skatepark please choose the lowest contingency, cut corners when legally possible, use local contractor help > be creative carefully examine loan feasibility . Regards 2 Mahala Burton Ps - It is time to rectify the error of removing the parent built skate facility by making every effort to fill the funding gap IFCAMBRIASKATE after a good faith effort is unable to SO. Dear Board and General Manager, > The district has an obligation to the community to meet public needs. The skatepark has centered community enthusiasm and brought Cambria together. Community members have raised significant funding to support this project. They, and all Cambrians, deserve the district's support in bringing the skatepark to fruition. The board should support this community project. Construction this summer season will reduce the cost significantly. Take this opportunity to build a million-dollar facility for less than 20 percent of the cost to the district. Thank you. If the GM was indeed committed to building the skatepark as he says we would already be building it. I have questions I would like to see answered during this April 24 meeting. Why have there been SO many estimates including from a consultant, Monte Soto, the board hired? In a letter, that consultant even called his estimate a proposal and said thank you for requesting it. Seems like you have already sent out requests for proposals improperly and are calling them estimates and mock bids? This would give an undue advantage to those contractors in the bidding process. The multiple MOUS are between the Board and the CCC. Why is the GM inserting himself into the process at this point? Why is the Fire Chief, who does not live in Cambria, speaking during public comment to say we need a fire truck instead of a skatepark? This seems like a plot to turn public sentiment against the skatepark. Our community is capable of Written Public raising funds for more than one thing as we have proven. If the average of the estimates is 1.2 million, why not just Comment: put out a real true request for proposal and see if we can get bids, including contingency, for under that? Or for the amount raised? If the GM is truly worried about the general fund being depleted can't it be put in the project contract that overages will not come out of the general fund? Our GM likes to write letter after letter trying to explain where he is coming from when in reality he just confuses the issue. It is not appropriate as again the MOU is between the Board and the CCC. Frankly I find lots of his letters nappropriate as in he is running the board and trying to influence the public often against board decisions. They almost seem like executive orders. These letters are to the public outside the board meeting process. What is his role? What is his role in the skatepark project specifically? I would think it is to facilitate the project after the board approved it. We all now know what facilitate means, to make things easier, not harder! Let's get this done. From: Suzanne Kennedy To: BoardComment Subject: skateboard Date: Thursday, April 24, 2025 11:28:36. AM My husband and I have lived in Cambria for 35 years. While Cambria is a wonderful place to raise a family, we appreciate how limited the recreation is for young people. We had to fundraise to provide any local recreation for our children and most of the time we were relegated to traveling outside of town to use the resources provided by other towns. Our son loved skateboarding and he and his friends learned to make their own skateboards with the help of a local carpenter. They competed in the County, but had to go outside of Cambria to practice. It would have been nice to have a local park while he was growing up. Skateboarding is alive and well in Cambria. The art and business of skateboarding has been taught in our local High School for the past 5 years. The students learn how to create a business/marketing plan for a skateboard, design and produce the product, and then engage in a business pitch in person to Skatewarehouse- one of the three largest worldwide online skateboard retailers. The time is now. To delay is to add costs and further postpone project completion. Don't allow this to be the strategy for serving the youth in Cambria.
