A meeting of the Fayette County Board of Commissioners was held at 10 a.m. on Thursday, March 20, 2025 at the meeting room of 2 West Main Street, Uniontown PA. Commissioner Lohr said once again, grant money is tax dollars. He said the money comes from tax dollars. Commissioner Vicites said the grants are competitive and if Fayette County does get the grants, some other county will. The two commissioners debated the need for grants. Recycling/Stormwater A motion was made by Commissioner Lohr and seconded by Commissioner Vicites to approve Sheila Shea to attend the 2025 PROP Conference in Cranberry PA July 21- 25, 2025, and to use the county credit card for hotel costs. A grant has been received to cover the costs of the conference and certification class. The cost to the county will be for the $556 hotel stay. After the vote, Commissioner Vicites said if they didn't have that grant, the truck would go somewhere else, saying it is the same principle as the trail grant. Commissioner Lohr said it is not the same principle; it is a matter of priority. He said it is the equivalent of if you need a hot water tank for your house and if you want a swimming pool, which would you buy? Commissioner Vicites said you can't use trail grant money on anything except trail grants. Commissioner Lohr said the legislators need to evaluate how funding is allocated. Commissioner Vicites said someone else will get the grants if we don't. He said they are doing their due diligence to help if they can. Commissioner Lohr said the state and federal officials need to evaluate to see what is important. Commissioner Dunn said he disagrees with Commissioner Lohr and he committed to build the Sheepskin Trail. There was not a second received SO the motion died. Commissioner Lohr then said he would table the motion. Solicitor Purcell said it could be tabled but it would only last for a specific amount of time. Commissioner Vicites said he thinks it is a good price and rebidding it may increase the price. Commissioner Dunn said he had questions about how the ad was placed.
