Job Announcement: Road and Bridge Crew - Crowley County Position Title: Road and Bridge Crew Member Location: Crowley County District #2, Ordway Job Type: Full-Time Salary: $32,000+ depending on qualifications, insurance, retirement plan, cumulative PTO and annual raises included Application Deadline: until filled Crowley County is seeking motivated and dedicated individuals to join our Road and Bridge Crew. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and improving the County's roadways, culverts, and bridges. This position requires knowledge of road construction methods, equipment operation, and safety procedures. Key Responsibilities Road Construction & Maintenance: Perform various tasks to maintain and improve County roads, including grading, smoothing potholes and washboards, and ensuring proper drainage through slope maintenance. Heavy Equipment Operation: Operate a variety of heavy machinery and equipment, including graders, backhoes, loaders, and other construction vehicles, to complete roadwork and maintenance tasks. Safety Compliance: Follow all safety requirements and procedures in accordance with local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure a safe working environment for the crew and the public. Roadway Repair & Maintenance: Maintain roads, culverts, and bridges, ensuring all structures are safe, functional, and free of debris. Snow Removal: Operate snowplows during winter months to clear roadways and maintain traffic flow. Traffic Control: Place work zone traffic control devices, such as signs and cones, and perform flagging duties to ensure the safety ofv workers and the public during roadwork. Material Hauling: Transport materials to road construction and maintenance sites as needed. Debris Removal: Remove debris and other safety hazards from roads, culverts, storm drains, and adjacent public areas to maintain safe driving conditions. Additional Duties: Perform other duties as assigned by the Road and Bridge Supervisor or other County leadership. Qualifications and Skills Knowledge of Road Construction: Understanding of road construction methods, materials, and specifications, with the ability to apply this knowledge in the field. Equipment Operation: Experience in the operation and maintenance of heavy equipment and machinery. Safety Knowledge: Familiarity with safety rules, regulations, and best practices in road construction and maintenance. CDL Preferred: A valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is preferred. Must have a clean driving record for insurability. Successful applicant will have 90 days to get CDL endorsement. County will assist with costs associated with process. Education: High School Diploma or GED is required. Physical Requirements: Ability to perform manual labor, including lifting, standing, and working in varying weather conditions for extended periods. Attention to Detail: Ability to follow instructions and complete tasks accurately while maintaining a high level of safety. Team Player: Ability to work effectively as part of a team and communicate well with coworkers and supervisors. Additional Requirements Ability to pass a pre-employment drug test and background check. Ability to work extended hours and be on call during emergencies, including inclement weather.
