CITY OF SCHULENBURG SCHULENBURG, TX March 17, 2025 The City Council of the City of Schulenburg met in regular session on Monday, March 17, 2025, at 6:30 P.M. in the Council Chambers located at 607 Upton Avenue, Schulenburg, Texas. The elected officials present included Mayor, Connie Koopmann, Alderman Greg Thomas, Alderman, Clarence Ahlschlager, Alderwoman, Kathy Kleiber. Alderman, Frank Wick III, and Alderman, Roger Moellenberndt, were absent. City Staff present were City Administrator, Tami Walker, and Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller. Visitors included Darrell Vyvjala of the Schulenburg Sticker, Mike Ohnheiser, and Ivàn Velasquez. Mayor Connie Koopmann called role. Tami Walker said a prayer over the meeting and its members, and Mayor Koopmann led the Pledge of Allegiance and the Texas Pledge. Alderman Thomas made a motion, seconded by Alderwoman, Kleiber to accept Consent Agenda Items A and B. The motion passed unanimously. A. Minutes from the Regular Scheduled Council Meeting held on March 4, 2025 B. Payment of Current Bills Ms. Walker then explained to council the need to take appropriate action on the Appointment of the Election Judge and Alternate Judge for the City of Schulenburg General Election to be held on May 3, 2025. Elections Administrator, Donna Macik presented the city with an Election Judge, recommendation of Gwendolyn "Wendie" Syrinek as the Presiding Judge and Benajmin Barnett, Alternate Judge. Councilwoman Kleiber asked if the Election Judges will be used for the school election. I then explained they are there since we hold a joint election. Afterwards, there was no additional discussion. Alderman Ahlschlager made a motion, seconded by Alderman Thomas, to approve the Appointment of the Election Judge and Alternate Judge for the City of Schulenburg General Election to be held on May 3, 2025. The motion passed unanimously. Operations Manager, Darryl Moeller, reported the following to Council: Electric Department cut the power at city hall, set a pole NICOR Water Department Weisinger Water Well Services installed soft start equipment at Well #12, met with BEFCO for the College Street project, aerator motor at the Main Pump House, installed new meter at SISD. The Mechanic serviced police vehicles, City Administrator's car, and ongoing with Garbage Trucks Sewer Department jet the lines for Boys & Girls Club, certifying lines for the sewer project, verify manholes on Kallus Street, vaccted out the Bone Yard lift station Street Department provided a box at City Hall for the contractor, trimmed a tree for service line on Pierce Street. Sports Complex - mowing is ongoing, water leaks at all the fields City Hall contractor was working 7 days a week to remove the cladding from the building. The wind caused them to stop early a few days; otherwise, they were on track with the proposed timeline. Civic Center they continue to paint, stain will be going on the floors, a lot of progress going on. Alderman Ahlschlager asked Moeller about City-Wide Cleanup. Moller replied there were 4 containers filled the first Saturday. City Administrator, Tami Walker, reported the following to Council: City Hall cut a hole to see the area where the proposed elevator Civic Center clarity on the 18-ton package unit is planned for the building. Temporary unit will be installed while waiting on the specified unit. Cleaning the building up and adding letters to the outside, removal of the pecan trees, a new side-walk, and a sprinkler system. Complemented city staff on cross training and filling in with two employees being out. We have moved Johnnie Demel into the offices to learn the business side of collections and other services provided. City Council then went into an Executive Session pursuant to Local Government Code 551.072 (Deliberations about Real Property) located at 605 Upton Avenue at 6:39p.m. Mayor closed Executive Session and reopened Regular Session at 7:12p.m. There was no action to be taken at this time. Mayor and Council agreed to allow Tami and Darryl to obtain an appraisal of the building and an inspection. Otherwise, we would wait until all council is present. Therefore, the item will be discussed at the next meeting. Alderman Ahlschlager made a motion, seconded by Alderwoman Kleiber, to adjourn the meeting at 7:13pm. The motion passed unanimously.
