Town of Triana Regular Council Meeting Monday, February 24, , 2025 6:30PM The meeting was called to order by the mayor. The clerk was asked to call the roll. Councilmember George Ragland - Present Councilmember Erica Hopkins-Present Councitmember Theresa Nelson-Present Councilmember Casey Whitman-Present Councilmember Levoneia Ayers-Present Mayor Mary Caudle - Present Members present constituted a quorum. Legal counsel Caleb Ballew and the clerk Sharron Humphrey were also present. Motion by Councilmember Nelson to accept the minutes dated Feb. 10, 2025, Councilmember Hopkins second the motion. Motion carried. Mayor Caudle's Report: Received notification from USDA that they have received all documents to move forward with getting with the bank to set a closing date for the Fire Station, looking at next week. The mayor spoke with TARCOG about setting up a conference call to start on the Comprehensive Plan and what it might cost us. She plans to bring information to Council once everything is set up. REPORTS OF STANDING COMMITTEES: Fire & Police: Chairperson Ragland reported Fire Dept. responded to 11 medical calls and 5 outside fires. Police Dept. traveled 2,784 miles, made 19 traffic stops, 17 warning citations, 8 traffic citations, 44 calls for service, 1 arrest and 9 reports. Councilman Ragland stated before his term is up, he would like to see thet town hire a Police Officer and al Fireman. The mayor stated the Council has already approved the hire of 2 police officers, and 1 fireman under the salary budget. She stated once the final budget is approved, they will be able to move forward with the hires. Finance: Chairperson Hopkins presented the Bank Reconciliation Statement dated Jan. 31, 2025. Motion by Councilmember Hopkins to approve the Bank Reconciliation Statement ending Jan 31, 2025. Councilmember Ragland second the motion. Motion carried. Councilmember Hopkins presented a proposed budget worksheet on the expenses, she asked council to look over for review. Work session scheduled for March 10th at 5:30pm to discuss the new proposed budget. 1 Jurlene Rogers reported that the sign in front of the new Subdivision on Landess Cir has been knocked down. The mayor stated we will let the developer know she stated they're responsible for putting sign back up. Tanesh Roach thanked everyone for their diligence. She stated she has been communicating with the mayor and that she has her board of commissioners in place. She stated that she asked her resident representative Mr. Ronald Kimbell to attend the meeting. Councilmember Whitman reported that he along with Councimember Nelson and Fire Chief Chad helped with opening the Tornado shelter on Feb 16th * He stated they had about 50 people to come out. Councimember Hopkins asked if they had any issues with cell service. Councilman Whitman stated no, he stated they have a T.V. to watch and the Fire Chief and Mrs. Nelson both have fire radios. Hel has amateur radio that he can contact out to. Not an issue with cell service. Fire Chief Beddingfield stated he has been looking into how many storm shelters are registered in the Town of Triana. He stated there are 18 storm shelters registered with the County. Chief Beddingfield stated there's a place on the County's website to register storm shelters. He stated his fear is that if a tornado hits a large area and it's not registered it will be hard to locate them if they're not registered. Councilmember Ayers thanked Chief Beddingfield for posting pictures of the roads last week after the snowstorm letting us know they were clear to travel. Moved and properly seconded to adjourn.
