HEARD COUNTY BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS WORK SESSION February 18, 2025 - 5:30 P.M. The Heard County Board of Commissioners held a work session on February 18, 2025, at 5:30 p.m. in the Commission Chamber of the Heard County Administration Building. In attendance at the meeting were Chairman Tracy McCormick, District 2 Commissioner James Perry, District 3 Commissioner Iris Harris, District 4 Commissioner Larry Hammond, and District 5 Commissioner David Walls. The District 1 Commission seat is currently vacant. Chairman McCormick stated that this work session was called to discuss Zoning and other matters. The Board discussed the current regulations regarding the size of Single Family and Rural Development tracts. A key topic oft the discussion was the potential need to update the ordinance to define limits on how many times a tract can be divided. The Board considered the impact of such divisions on land use, community development, and infrastructure. Various perspectives were shared regarding whether the current lot sizes were suitable to accommodate growth and development while maintaining the integrity of rural areas. It was suggested that the ordinance may need to be revised to clarify the maximum number of divisions allowed per tract and to ensure that future developments align with the community's growth plans. The Board agreed to initiate a thorough review oft the zoning ordinances and updating them where needed. The Board discussed the potential use of a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax (TSPLOST) to fund repairs and improvements to several roads, bridges, and culverts in need of attention within the area. Several critical infrastructure components were identified as priorities for inclusion in a potential TSPLOST project, with an emphasis on improving the condition of roads, bridges, and culverts to ensure safety and improve accessibility for the community.
