BOARD OF DIRECTORS COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT Regular Board Meeting March 13, 2025 - MINUTES STATE OF TEXAS - COUNTY OF MONTAGUE CITY OF BOWIE On this 13th day of March, 2025 the Community Development Board ofl Directors convened for a regular board meeting. Presiding: Jamie Rodden Members: Mildred McCraw, Sylvia Henning, Matt Hunt, Renee Hart, Vickie Howard Executive Director: Cindy Roller City Liaison: Mayor Gaylynn Burris Absent: Debbie Halbrook, Donna Ballew, Marty Elmore Meeting was called to order by Board President jamie Rodden at! 5:01 p.m. OLD Business 1. Previous meeting minutes presented from February 6, 2025, Mildred McCraw motioned and Sylvia Henning seconded with no objections minutes were. approved as presented. 2. Cindy Roller gave a report on knowledge gained while completing Community Development Institute. Advanced Course and passing the Professional Community and Economic Developer examination to earn the PCED initials and certification. She will have to continue attending economic training in order to keep certification active. (See attached certificate). This year's Advance Course held in The Woodlands was based on' This year's Advanced course was hosted by Strong Towns and had a focus on street design, safety, transportation, and traffic calming measures.. Attendees were provided mobility strategies for adapting street design for all road users, With the upcoming Downtown Revitalization Grant on Smythe Street, downtown Bowie, Texas was used as an example in the instructor's presentation. 3. Roller, gavea an update on Texas Lakes Trail Region Travel Information Center (TIC) Blitz and the detour to the Bowie Knife as well as Grapevine, Wichita Falls, Gainesville, and Denison. 4. Tourism Friendly Certification is completed and awarded at City Council meeting on February 27, 2025. Governor's office made the announcement. as well. The Board also presented White's Magneto and Supply with the Texas Treasure Business Award. NEW Business 1. The Board reviewed spring Sip activity possibilities. It was agrecd to offer the Mom's Night Out basket giveaway again. 2. The Board suggested decorating the Bowie knife in red, white, and blue for Tourism Week. Roller already has those lights and will get that handled. 3. The activities for the 30th Annual Chicken and Bread Days Heritage Festival were discussed. Mildred McCraw motioned tol bring back the cluck and crow contest. The availability ofa carnival was researched. The theme for the fall was decided toi be focused on our heritage from the railroad to chickens for the BIG: 30. Cash prizes will be offered Sip for storefront deçorating contest. Judges along with People's Choice will be offered, 4. Other event suggestions were made from a food truck race to power of purse. More research will be given. 5. Roller updated on the Downtown Revitalization Grant for Smythe Street. Sealed bids to be opened on March 13, 2025. This improvement will be focused primarily on the sidewalk from Montague Street to Wise Street and arcas around the Christmas tree by Bowie News. She continues to work with businesses interested in the façade improvement 6. Future' Texas Treasure Business Award suggestions were made. The deadline is May 1. grants.
