Approved and Finalized Absent: 3 Vote For: 4 City of Marietta Page 1 Printed on 2/25/2025 11:43:23AM BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS Meeting Minutes February 24, 2025 VARIANCES: 20250025 V2025-02 VARIANCE FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF MARIETTA V2025-02 VARIANCE] FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF MARIETTA is requesting a variance for property zoned LI (Light Industrial) located in Land Lot 1590, District 16, Parcel 1100, 2nd Section, Marietta, Cobb County, Georgia, and being known as 24 Polk Street. Variance to allow a glass recycle dumpster without an enclosure. Ward 3A Mr: Roth presented variance request V2025-02. Mr: Southerland disclosed that he is a member ofthe First Presbyterian Church of Marietta. A public hearing was held. Mr: James Sommerville represented the request. He explained First Presbyterian Church's goal to offer a convenient locationfor the disposal ofrecyclable glass while conscientiously contributing to environmental protections and reducing the church's carbonfootprint. Mr: Sommerville was accompanied by Ms. Moran, representative, for Ripple Glass who will provide the glass container and recycling services. There was no. support or opposition to the request presented. Mr Maloney had questions regarding the location and how many containers would be on site. He referred to staff comments regarding the city's preferred locationfor the container: Mr Sommerville confirmed there would be one container only and the city's prefèrred. location request was agreeable. The members asked for input regarding maintenance and what preventative measures would be in place to address potential nuisance complaints. Ms. Moran added that each container is equip with a camera which takes screen shots ofthe contents every three hours to determine when it isfull and ready for collection. She continued that there are several units in locations throughout metro. Atlanta with no reported incidents ofmisuse, vandalism or nuisance issues. With noj further comment or questions, the public hearing was closed. A motion was made by Mr: Maloney, seconded by Ms. Carmichael, to approve the requested variance with stipulation, as granting the application will not be detrimental or injurious to property or improvements in the vicinity ofthe development site, or to the public health, safety, or general welfare. The motion carried with a vote of 4-0-0.
