Motion by Commissioner Gray, seconded by Commissioner Riley to approve Commissioners Court Agenda for discussion and necessary action. Motion carried. CITIZENS - AGENDA ITEM 7 Rhea Young - 9J1.58 the former Library Director spoke to the court against the approval and action of PCR #58. She began providing positive stats about the county library and the growth it has seen under her leadership. She then describes reasons to believe that her dismissal was not due to her lack of performance but due to attacks from few who do not agree with her leadership. She requested that the court move this item to executive session, reinstate her as the library director, and return oversight of the library to the entire commissioners court. David Martin, Eben Young, Ken Bates, John H., Rachel Walker, Teresa Kenney, Christina Wood, Cynthia Smith, and Deborah Walker - 9J1.58 each spoke out against the discharge of Rhea Young as the Library Director. These residents and individuals state this action was a form ofi injustice seeing that the results of! her work showed otherwise, and she did her best to comply Session of February 11, 2025 Page 2 of26 with the county's ever-changing protocols for the county library. They emphasized that the Library Director serves all residents of Montgomery County; not a specific political ideology. The citizens demanded the court to stop being vague and define what objectionable material means to assist the Director, SO she may perform her best as the Library Director. Michele Knuckles 9J1.58 - opened up to the court that librarians who work with the former Library Director reached out to her about their concerns with the hostile work environment. Knuckles stated that Rhea purposely avoided buying conservative material. Knuckles goes into details of poor communication and mishaps that occur under the leadership of Rhea Young. She hopes the court chooses a new library director that prioritizes neutrality and transparency.
