CARO A REGULAR CITY COUNCIL WORK SESSION MEETING TUESDAY FEBRUARY 25, 2025 @5:30 PM CHERRYVILLE COMMUNITY BUILDING W.J. ALLRAN JR. COUNCIL CHAMBERS 106 S. JACOB STREET CHERRYVILLE, NC 28021 The Honorable mayor pro-tempore Jill Puett called the meeting to order. Councilmembers Gary Freeman, Jon Abernethy, and Janice Hovis were present. Mayor Beam was absent. City Manager Brian Dalton, City Clerk Paige H. Green, Police Chief Brandon Hunsucker, Asst. Fire Chief Colby Heffner, Fire Chief Jason Wofford, and Finance Director Dixie Wall were also present. Lincoln Times News and Wise News Network were present for media coverage. ITEMS FOR DISCUSSION OR CONSIDERATION: AGENDA APPROVAL: Councilmember Abernethy made a motion to approve the agenda as written. Councilmember Hovis seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. END OF YEAR REPORT FOR FIRE DEPARTMENT, FIRE CHIEF JASON WOFFORD: Asst. Fire Chief Colby Heffner presented the end of year annual report for the fire department. He shared the organization chart for the department, values, promotions, new employees, retirements, calls for service, property damage, certifications, grants, and fire prevention information. END OF YEAR REPORT FOR POLICE DEPARTMENT, POLICE CHIEF BRANDON HUNSUCKER: Police Chief Brandon Hunsucker presented the end ofy year annual report for the police department. He shared the organizational chart, call log summary, incidents and investigations conducted based on call types, total number of calls for each month, and the call volumes for the past twenty-four years. DISCUSSION OF CITY COUNCIL MEETING VIDEOS, CITY MANAGER BRIAN DALTON: Mr. Dalton shared that during covid the city started having the meetings videoed for citizens to watch at home. He shared that the city pays $350.00 each month for this service. Mr. Dalton stated that citizens that want to come to the meetings can, and Wise News Network is also here Page 1 of 2 videoing the meetings. Mr. Dalton asked council to consider if it is really necessary for the city to pay for this service when the service is being taken care of with Wise News Network for free. After some discussion, councilmembers agreed to table this agenda item until the March 10, meeting. OTHER BUSINESS: Mr. Dalton asked council to consider a date and time for a budget work session. After some discussion, councilmember Abernethy made a motion to set the date of April 29, 2025 for a budget work session to be held after the regular work session. Also set the meeting to begin at 5:00 at the fire department. Councilmember Hovis seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. Mr. Dalton shared that some of the new flower pots have been put out on Main Street. The flowers will be planted in them on May 3. There will be a total of 34 pots. Councilmember Hovis asked how many apartments will be built on W. Academy Street. Mr. Dalton shared that there will be a total of five building and a community building for a total of 124 apartments. Councilmember Freeman asked if any houses have sold at Calico Creek. Mr. Dalton stated that none have sold and they have lowered the asking price. ADJOURNMENT: Councilmember Freeman made a motion to adjourn the meeting. Councilmember Abernethy seconded the motion and the vote was unanimous. The meeting adjourned at 6:04.
