Library Board Minutes February 19, 2025 APPROVED STATE OF TEXAS S COUNTY OF TARRANT S CITY OF BEDFORD S The Library Board of the City of Bedford, Texas, met at 7:00 p.m. in the Library, 2424 Forest Ridge Drive on the 19th day of February 2025 to review items on the regular agenda and to hear staff reports, with the following members present, constituting a quorum: Present: Deborah Chaney Teri Clifford Susan Hampton Lori Irvin Janet Key Tammy McDonald Amanda Stephens Also Present: Joy Donvan Brandon, Council Liaison Maria Redburn, Director of Library (The following items were considered in accordance with the official agenda posted on the 13th day of February 2025.) CALL TO ORDER Board Chair, Janet Key, called the meeting to order at 7:00 p.m. ROLL CALINTRODUCTIONS PUBLIC COMMENTS No public comments were given. APPROVAL OF MINUTES 1. Consider approval of the following Library Board minutes: November 20, 2024, regular meeting Board Member Clifford made a motion to approve the minutes. Motion was seconded by Board Member Hampton. Motion passed unanimously. OLD BUSINESS 2. Update on the Business Plan. Redburn reviewed changes made to the Library Business Plan after feedback from the City Manager's Office. The following changes were made to the Library Business Plan: Removed enhance outdoor spaces due to unknown impact of Bedford Commons on the Library Greenspace 1 Library Board Minutes February 19, 2025 APPROVED Revised to read "reading challenge for all ages" Revised 20 programs to read "Host a minimum of four culturally responsive programs" Removed programs to outside businesses and organizations The Library Business Plan will be reviewed by City Council on March 11, 2025. NEW BUSINESS 3. Review and discussion about the Volunteer of the Year application and evaluation process. Redburn reviewed the evaluation process for selecting the Volunteer of the Year. Nominees are anonymous and a scoring matrix is used to help narrow down to the top candidates. 4. Distribution and discussion on overall Annual Library Satisfaction Survey results. Redburn reported on the survey results and reviewed how the library performed compared to the previous year. Some of the major findings were as follows: 18% decrease in number of respondents from last year 17% increase in number of respondents who strongly agree that the library is doing a good job of meeting library needs Checking out materials is still the top ranked service 86% of respondents rated the Ability of Staff to Quickly Assist Patrons as Excellent 85% of respondents Friendliness of Staff as Excellent 81% of respondents Knowledge of Staff as Excellent 88% of respondents gave the library an "A" Grade 2025 Actionable tems Awning over library entrance Enclosing the children's entrance Add toys with a WOW factor Increase board book collection Research adding puzzle collection Curate shelves for CloudLibrary Increase ebook and audiobook collection Open seed library to non-residents Start adult programs later Research adding a library app Implement holds nolfication/messaging service Research online booking of study rooms 5. Report and discussion on Library Flash Vote Results. Flash vote results were not available at this meeting. 6. Report on Friends Book Sale and Library Giving Day. Chair Key reported that the Friends made over $7,000 dollars on the Friends Book Sale. The Friends will be participating in Library Giving Day on Tuesday, April 1. Board members are encouraged to place signs in their yards. HEB Grocery Store donated $25,000 for marketing materials. Community Foundations of Texas will be hosting the platform. 2 Library Board Minutes February 19, 2025 APPROVED REPORTS 7. Discussion and distribution of Library Director's Report. Director's Report was distributed and is attached to the minutes. NEXT MEETING 8. The next meeting of the Library Advisory Board is Wednesday, March 19, 2024. ADJOURNMENT Motion to adjourn was made by Board Member Stephens and seconded by Board Member Hampton. The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 p.m. by Board Chair Key.
