MINUTES OF THE SPECIAL MEETING OF THE JURUPA VALLEY CITY COUNCIL February 27, 2025 The meeting was held at Rubidoux High School - Elliott Duchon Concert Hall, 4250 Opal Street, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509 1. 6:00 PM - CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL FOR SPECIAL MEETING Brian Berkson, Mayor Chris Barajas, Mayor Pro Tem Armando Carmona, Council Member Veronica Sanchez, Council Member Guillermo Silva, Council Member Mayor Brian Berkson called the Special Meeting to order at 6:13 p.m. 2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE was led by Lt. John Shulda, Riverside County Sheriff's Department. 3. PRESENTATION BY SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA EDISON ON PUBLIC SAFETY POWER SHUTOFFS AND SCE INVESTMENTS IN JURUPA VALLEY'S ELECTRICITY DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM A presentation was provided from Southern California Edison on emergency response operations, electrical infrastructure upgrades, emergency preparedness, customer notifications and informational resources. The following representatives from Southern California Edison responded to questions from the Public. PUBLIC APPEARANCE/CE/COMMENTS The following members of the public appeared before City Council and voiced opposition to the insufficient response received from Southern California Edison during the 8-day electrical power shut-off: Catalina Rosales Wendy Lomeli Nanette Seda-Lotzgesell Bernard Murphy -1- Laura Shultz Zoe Hanlon Nathan Hanlon David Daneshmayeh Maria Lara Mary Vidales Daniel Silvas Mirna Torres George Revilla Gabriela Marquez B. CITY COUNCIL DIRECTION TO STAFF Following discussion, the City Council directed City Staff to work collaboratively with Southern California Edison to lessen thei impacts on residents who are affected by service interruptions, including providing advanced notice of service outages, providing additional resources, and claims assistance. 4. ADJOURNMENT There being no further business before the City Council, Mayor Brian Berkson adjourned the meeting at 8:35 p.m. The next meeting oft the Jurupa Valley City Council will be held March 6, 2025 at 7:00 p.m. at the City Council Chamber, 8930 Limonite Avenue, Jurupa Valley, CA 92509.
