BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON COUNCIL MEETING MINUTES 1-17-22 The Special Meeting Minutes of Council was held on Monday, January 17, 2022, at 6:00 PM, at the Borough Hall, 125 S. Walnut Street, Slatington, PA 18080 Presiding: Thomas Bartholomew: President of Council Recording Secretary: Daniel Stevens, Borough Manager/Secretary The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 6:04 PM with the following in attendance: ROLL CALL PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS PRESENT VISITORS Thomas Bartholomew Mayor Schoch Timothy Wagner Bryon Reed Ed Healy-via phone Kris Porter Joseph Wechsler (via phone) Daniel Stevens Pete Wayda Ronald Kratz Kevin Steckel Jeffrey Hausman Zachari Halkias 3. PRAYER AND PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG 4. NOTIFICATION: President Bartholomew announced that all public sessions of Borough Council are electronically recorded and such recordings are maintained as part of the meeting record until the minutes are transcribed and approved by the Board, at which time the recordings shall be erased. 5. PUBLIC COMMENT - (For Agenda/Non-Agenda Items) please use Podium (3 minutes) - None 6. EXECUTIVE SESSION: President Bartholomew recessed to executive session at 6:04 PM. At 6:53 PM President Bartholomew, reconvened the meeting. Matters of personnel were discussed in executive session. 7. Councilor Halkias made a motion, duly seconded by Councilor Reed, to approve holding 2 recycling events: Saturday, March 26, 2022, and November 12, 2022, from 9:00 AM-11:00 AM (hours reduced, but cost will remain the same) President Bartholomew declared the motion passed following a Voice Vote, all in favor. 8. Discussion of essential duties for the chief of police position (see attached) and possible motion to appoint officer to temporarily fulfill those duties 9. Councilor Hausman made a motion, duly seconded by Councilor Kratz, to authorize Solicitor Healy to assemble and to review the 2006 materials related to the appointment of police chief and update as needed, any and all materials related to the duties of the chief of police including the job description. Also authorizing Solicitor Healy to assemble an interview package for the chief of police, as well as an applicant package. President Bartholomew declared the motion passed following a Voice Vote, all in favor. 1 Councilor Kratz made a motion, duly seconded by Councilor Reed, to amend the agenda to direct Sgt. Deron Dorward to perform the responsibilities and fulfill his job description. President Bartholomew declared the motion passed following a Voice Vote, all in favor. Dorward to fulfill his job description as acting sergeant.
