BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings were held on November 19, 2018, in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Stevens at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS VISITORS Daniel Stevens Russell Hallman David Lear Ed Ziegler Bryon Reed Joseph Wechsler PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. HIGHWAY Bryon Reed = Acting Chairman; Members: Joseph Wechsler, Russell Hallman 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Reed stated we have received the Multimodal application for the Main Street and Walnut Street intersection and the grant was submitted and accepted. b. President Stevens stated the borough can register with the Federal Surplus Property Program. C. Councilor Reed informed the committee the old dump truck broke during the snow storm. The truck has been fixed. d. Councilor Reed informed the committee the back window in the backhoe fell out while plowing. e. The committee discussed the borough plowing Fairview and Church Street. f. David Lear said they had received a PA One Call for the Walnut Street bridge. There are some preliminary plans for working on the utilities for the bridge. This PA One Call is just verification ofthe right utilities, sizes, and location. g. Councilor Reed wanted to know about a street light at Main and Church Streets intersection. He is questioning if there is any liability to the borough since there isn't a light. B. SEWER Joseph Wechsler - Chairman; Members: Bryon Reed, Russell Hallman 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Wechsler and Mr. Kleintop looked at some trees and found that some of them need to be cut back and trimmed. Mr. Kleintop, general 1 I manager at Rentschler, suggested to top them off, cut about 8 feet off of them. The committee agreed to just trim and whack the trees. The entire cost will be paid by Rentschler. President Stevens will send a letter. b. Councilor Wechsler informed the committee the 4-wheel drive is fixed on the sewer pickup truck. Duane Szczesny fixed it. C. Councilor Wechsler stated that President Stevens has signed the contracts for the digester contract project. President Stevens said they have been sent. Informational only C. WATERSPECIAL SEWER COMMITTEE Bryon Reed- Chairman; Members: Russell Hallman, Joseph Wechsler 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. The committee agree to let Springside Sportsmen Club Inc. apply for a grant to redo the concrete at the fish pond. President Stevens will contact them with the decision. This will be placed on agenda for full council approval before the project is done. b. The committee discussed the Shadow Oaks PA Small Water grant. President Stevens is requesting more information from Larry Turoscy concerning the money involved. A 15% match would be $37,500.00. The grant is for $250,000.00. President Stevens informed the committee he had received information from Mike Kukitz concerning a grant for Victory Park. The grant is for $40,000.00, which is 2 for 1. The borough will be responsible for $20,000.00 match. C. Councilor Reed informed the committee that a neighbor had called and said they had dirty water. Councilor Reed had been informed that the school is filling up tankers on the school property to get the field cleaned off by the fire company, which stirred the water. The fire chief will inform the borough prior to any work being done at the school. COURTESY TO THE FLOOR: Ed Ziegler stated his wife's water usage went up to 20,000 gallons this past quarter and says she is the only one living there and usually uses no more than 8,000 gallons per quarter. The committee said the meters can be tested, but suggested that the problem could be from the toilet flapper. Councilor Reed made a motion, duly seconded by Councilor Wechsler to adjourn.
