BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings were held on December 17, 2018, in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Stevens at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS VISITORS Daniel Stevens Russell Hallman Larry Turoscy Ed Ziegler Bryon Reed Joseph Wechsler PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. HIGHWAY Bryon Reed - Acting Chairman; Members: Joseph Wechsler, Russell Hallman 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Larry Turoscy stated that all was necessary was to take the PennDOT standards and replace PennDOT with the Borough of Slatington for the curb and sidewalk specifications. These specifications, the 408 Standards, have the standards on how to build it, what materials to use, how to pay for it, and how to inspect it. Larry suggested to the committee the application for the curb and sidewalk, also be included with the street cut requirements submitted at the January regular council meeting. b. President Stevens suggested a letter be written requesting further information to the County ofLehigh, Marc Grammes, Commissioner, regarding the $5.00 registration fee and their allocation and priorities. C. Larry Turoscy is writing a letter to PennDOT and requesting a year extension concerning the traffic light. Extra funding maybe necessary from PennDOT. Larry Turoscy will contact Dave to find out what was done with PP&L for the street light at Main and Church Streets. Larry will keep the committee informed. d. Councilor Reed discussed all the parking lots that are patrolled. He suggested to the committee to have the parking permits expire all at the same time. The permits could be pro-rated. Example, tickets would be valid from 1/1-6/30 and 7/1-12/31. There were no further questions from the committee members, and SO the Highway Committee Meeting was adjourned. B. SEWER Joseph Wechsler - Chairman; Members: Bryon Reed, Russell Hallman 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Wechsler provided the committee with a schedule for the digester project. The grant is valid till the end of June, but if it is necessary, a one-time extension could be requested to extend it. 1 b. Councilor Reed informed the committee concerning the sewer pickup truck. He was informed that the ABS light is on. The truck was taken to Riverside and they said it could cost approximately $500.00 to repair it. The committee agreed to wait to have the repair done, but the truck will get inspected. Being no further questions from the committee members, the Sewer Committee meeting was adjourned. C. WATERSPECIAL SEWER COMMITTEE Bryon Reed- Chairman; Members: Russell Hallman, Joseph Wechsler 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. PA Small Water grant - Shadow Oaks Lane. Larry Turoscy informed the committee a survey was completed from Oakhurst to all the way up to Sunrise, SO there is enough to go the extra distances. Larry asked if the road was going to be re-surfaced. The committee agreed that it would be and discussed how part of the cost could be included in the grant. Being no further questions from the committee members, the Water/Special Sewer Committee Meeting was adjourned. COURTESY TO THE FLOOR: Ed Ziegler - Signed in and was recognized to speak. There is a light at 578 Main Street that exposed and recommends the owners remove it. He suggested buying property in the 600 block of Main Street to make it a parking lot. The committee discussed the parking issues. Councilor Wechsler made a motion, duly seconded by Councilor Reed to adjourn. All in favor. President Stevens adjourned the meeting at 8:24 PM.
