BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Finance Planning/Zoning, Public Safety and Human/Community Services Committee Workshop Meetings were held on January 17, 2022 in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA 18080. The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 7:06 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS PRESENT VISITORS Thomas Bartholomew Daniel Stevens Jeffrey Hausman Ronald Kratz Justin Frable Kevin Steckel Bryon Reed Zachari Halkias PUBLIC COMMENT: Justin Frable - 6228 Rachel Drive. Signed in and was recognized to speak. Justin Frable spoke on behalf of Fire Chief Austin Berger. Justin informed the committee that they have 1 applicant for the fire police captain and would like this placed on the next regular council agenda to approve Jeremy Henry as fire police captain. Jeffrey Hausman - 46 So. Walnut Street. Signed in and was recognized to speak. Jeffrey would like to ask the council to reconsider their thoughts on the current ordinance for fire chief. Jeffrey would like to see the council amend Ordinance 684, Chapter 22, Section 2a-3, to open it up SO that the fire chief could be allowed to live outside of the school district. Jeffrey has spoken to other fire departments and most oft them do not require the firechief to live in the school district. This will be placed on the February committee agenda. Jeffrey stated that years ago when monies are left over at the end of the year, that money went to the fire truck fund. A. FINANCE/PLANNINGIZONING Ronald Kratz - Chairman; Members: Kevin Steckel, Zachari Halkias 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. The committee reviewed the transmittal for review 25-27 Willow Avenue Subdivision. Manager Stevens stated that currently this is a double, but they had one water and sewer line. Work has been done to split the water, sewer, gas meters, and electric etc., to sell as individual homes. There were no questions from the committee members; the Finance Committee Meeting was adjourned. B. PUBLIC SAFETY Kevin Steckel - Chairman; Members: Ronald Kratz, Zachari Halkias 1. HUMAN/COMMUNITY SERVICES Zachari Halkias - Chairman; Members: Kevin Steckel, Ronald Kratz 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. The committee discussed potential fees for use of amphitheater. Manager Stevens stated that Lindsay Taylor from NLRA suggested the amphitheater fees be the same as what is charged for the pavilion at $100.00 per day. Nonprofits would not have to pay as is currently the practice. President Bartholomew would like this placed at the next committee meeting. b. The committee reviewed letter from the Walnut Street Playground Association concerning shutting off the electric service to the refreshment stand building. (informational only) C. The committee discussed Walnut Street Bridge - trail lighting. There would be lights for the trail attached to the new bridge. They would install the lights, but the borough would be responsible to pay the electricity and maintenance. Councilor Kratz suggested to obtain the lights and decide ifthe borough wants to maintain them later. This will be placed on the next regular council agenda. d. The committee discussed the request from the NLRA to sell alcohol at various programs and events in Slatington for year 2022. President Bartholomew would like this plaçed on the next regular council agenda. There were no questions from the committee members; the Fuman/Community Services Committee meeting was adjourned. D.
