BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings were held on January 27, 2020, in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Reed at 7:05 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS VISITORS Bryon Reed Larry Turoscy Daniel Stevens David Schnaars Robert Herzog, Jr. Joseph Wechsler Crystal Hausman Ronald Kratz Jeffrey Hausman PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. HIGHWAY David Schnaars - Members: Joseph Wechsler, Ronald Kratz 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Schnaars informed the committee the winter maintenance for Fairview Street has been resolved. b. Councilor Schnaars informed the committee that he has been getting a lot of reports of people parking at the Trailhead over night. He would like to have some signs, to possibly change the ordinance to include no overnight parking. The Trailhead is only open from dawn to dusk. Councilor Schnaars would like to put this on the next regular council meeting to have the ordinance reviewed by Ed Healy. Larry Turoscy provided plans to the committee for the CDBG work to be completed at the Memorial Park. There are 3 alternatives - 2 oft them are one-way and 1 is two-way. The committee and Larry reviewed each ofthe plans. Larry informed the committee he is waiting for the grant for Shadow Oaks. Being no further questions from the committee members, and SO the Highway Committee Meeting was adjourned. B. SEWER Joseph Wechsler Chairman; Members: David Schnaars, Ronald Kratz 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Wechsler informed the committee the grant was submitted for removal of digester lid and has completed its first phase. It is now being reviewed for the financial phase. He is waiting to hear the result by April or May. He also stated he would like to work on the grant for enclosing the trickling filters. 1 b. Councilor Weschler stated that Bryon Reed and people from the sewer plant had met with LCA to review and develop a plan for inspection and repair of the collection system. Councilor Schnaars informed the committee that the Northern Lehigh Recreation Authority may be moving out of their office. Being no further questions from the committee members, the Sewer Committee meeting was adjourned. C. WATER/SPECIAL SEWER COMMITTEE Ronald Kratz - Chairman; Members: Joseph Wechsler, David Schnaars 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. The committee discussed the DE River Basin Commission's Water Audit CY2018. This report will review the available water supply records that include our own sewers imported and exported; review available water consumption records, that include billed metered, billed unmetered, unbilled metered, and unbilled unmetered. The cost would be about $3,000 - $4,000. b. The committee reviewed the proposal for Technical/Inspection Services from Water Service Professionals for $9,180.00. This will be placed on the next regular council agenda. Being no further questions from the committee members, and SO the Water/Special Sewer Committee Meeting was adjourned. Councilor Schnaars asked the committee when a plan will be put together for replacing the water meters. At this time, research is still being done to see which technology system would be most beneficial.
