BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Water, Sewer/Solid Waste, and Highway Committee Workshop Meetings were held on June 27, 2022, in Municipal Building, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA. The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS VISITORS Thomas Bartholomew Justin Gross Crystal Hausman Bryon Reed Daniel Stevens Joseph Wechsler (via phone) Jeffrey Hausman PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. HIGHWAY Jeffrey Hausman - - Chairman; Members: Joseph Wechsler, Bryon Reed 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Hausman discussed the possibility of an emergency generator for the new stop light. Manager Stevens stated that he had Robert Herzog check at the borough garage and was informed that the generator they have couldn't be used. Manager Stevens suggested using COVID19 LFRF to purchase a generator. President Bartholomew suggested we obtain pricing and to make sure the generator is suitable for multiple issues. b. Councilor Hausman discussed hiring a casual seasonal employee for the Highway Dept. Councilor Hausman stated that Earl is not interested in the job. Due to timing in the year, this probably will not be feasible. Councilor Hausman said that this should be addressed earlier next year. C. Councilor Hausman stated that 2 residents on Shadow Oaks Lane have spoken to him concerning fixing the road. The committee discussed the history of repairs on that road. Councilor Hausman asked if it would be possible to just dig it up and mill it down to make it level and then chip and stone it for now. Justin Gross informed him that the problem with the road would continue sinking. Councilor Reed provided information concerning PA Small Water and storm sewer grants. d. Manager Stevens provided an update on Rte. 873 repaving and restoration project (PennDOT). Manager Stevens stated there won't be any paving on the borough's section this year because this is a 2-year project. The year they will be working on curb cuts in Slatington e. Justin Gross stated they are waiting for the documents for the CDBG for Franklin Street. f. Justin Gross stated that all the design is done for the Slate Heritage Trail restoration. Painting has been done to mark where the storm water issues are. Manager Stevens described the design oft the bridge redecking. Councilor Hausman asked if Welshtown Road could be incorporated in this project. Manager Stevens has called the gas company for their paving contractor, but has not heard back from him yet. 1 Being no further questions from the committee members, and SO the Highway Committee Meeting was adjourned. B. SEWER Joseph Wechsler - Chairman; Members: Bryon Reed, Jeffrey Hausman 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. Councilor Wechsler provided an update on the lightning strike and insurance claim. Councilor Wechsler stated that Duane Szczesny took care of the mechanical and Manager Stevens is taking care ofthe insurance claim. Manager Stevens added that he has received an estimate for the recirc Hearn for $,5061.00, and from Moyer Instruments for both data loggers that were blown out for $6,758.00. Manager Stevens is waiting for a quote from Kromer who had to order equipment for the air conditioner. The plant is back up and running. b. Sewer Plant will make permit for this month (informational only) C. Councilor Wechsler made a motion, duly seconded by Councilor Hausman, to amend the agenda and discuss the bid specifications for removal of the digester lid at the sewer plant. President Bartholomew declared the motion passed following a Voice Vote, All in Favor. The committee discussed the bid specifications for removal of the digester lid at the sewer plant. Manager Stevens received the contract specs. Manager Stevens stated that this grant runs out next June and is looking for direction as to how council would like move forward on putting this out to bid. Councilor Reed suggested Lehigh Engineering since this is not sewer work, but demolition work. Justin Gross will look into it. Being no further questions from the committee members, the Sewer Committee meeting was adjourned. C. WATERISPECIAL SEWER COMMITTEE Bryon Reed - Chairman; Members: Jeffrey Hausman, Joseph Wechsler 1. Committee Member Discussion: a. The committee reviewed the quote from Kohl Bros., Inc. to purchase a Peerless Pump Model 5PV7 for a total of $6,650.00. Councilor Reed would like this placed on the next regular council agenda for official approval. Councilor Reed stated that he will continue to talk with Harrisburg about applying for more water lines grants.
