Cumberland County Board of Elections Board Meeting (Absentee) November 26, 2024 Board Members in attendance were Chair Grimes, Member Edmonds, Member Devore, Member Baker. Staff in attendance was Director Amaro, Staff Member Roberts. Attorneys present: Hilton Hutchens; Hutchens Law Firm representing the Griffin campaign), Ray Bennett; Womble Bond Dickinson Law Firm (representing the Riggs campaign), William Robertson; Brooks Pierce Law Firm (representing the Democratic Party) The invocation was offered by Member Baker. The meeting was called to order by the Chair at 9:00 a.m. Action: Member Edmonds moves to approve the agenda. (second by Member King) Action: Member Devore moves that the Board find that all deceased voters on the challengers list were removed (second by Member Edmonds). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that Mr. Butler and Mr. Chandler were. found to not be the felons identified on the list provided but people with similar names.(second by Member Edmonds). Vote is unanimous in favor Action: Member Devore moves a finding that Mr. Peele was. found to be a felon and his vote be removed but due to an administrative error his ballot was not able to be retrieved and his vote was counted in this election. (second by Member Baker). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that the other eight names on the felon list presented to us were. found to be felons, their ballots were removed and their votes were not counted in this election. (second by Member Edmonds). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that Mrs. Melvin did moved within the State, is an active voter in Buncombe county, early voted in Buncombe county, her ballot was not challenged in this county and her votes were not removed. (second by Member Baker). Motion passes (for: Member Baker, Member Devore; abstain: Member Edmonds; against: Chair Grimes) Action: Member Devore moves a finding that voters Baskerville, Willis, Davis, Roberts, Curries, and Ortega- Garcia had active registrations in other counties, that they voted in Cumberland County and that their votes were not removed in this county. (second by Member Baker). Vote is unanimous in favor. Page 1 of 3 Action: Member Devore moves a finding that voters Miller and Alica Rodriguez' registrations were removed by the State system, they were not found to be registered in any other county, their registration was active in Cumberland County at the time they voted. (second by Member Baker). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that voters May, Siler, Bodner, Matthews and Tolson were registered in other counties, they voted in Cumberland County and their votes were not removed. (second by Member Edmonds). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that voters Hopkins, Furmage, Godwin, Royal, and Maher are deceased, that they voted before they. passed and that their votes were retrieved and not counted. (second by Member Baker). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that voters Groves, Jackson, Lasane, Amedin, Reid, Jordan, Johnson, Pedrosa, Williams, Copper, and Caruso same day registration cards were returned as undeliverable, their registrations were not cured, and SO their ballots were retrieved and not counted in this election. (second by Member Baker). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that voter Mc Neill cured his voter registration by the deadline and his vote was counted. (second by Member Baker). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves a finding that voters Newberry, Dougherty, Farrior, Lloyd, Andrews, Ferris, Killingher, Evans, and Allred were sent verification cards that were returned as undeliverable, 2nd notice was returned undeliverable as well which put the voter in denied status; per instructions from the State they were made active, sent registration cards and their votes counted (second by Member Edmonds). Vote is unanimous in favor. Action: Member Devore moves to refer others Melvin and Peele to the State Board for further consideration and dismiss the protest as to the other voters. (second by Member Baker). Vote is unanimous in favor.
