BOROUGH OF SLATINGTON The Finance Planning/Zoning, Public Safety and Human/Community Services Committee Workshop Meetings were held on May 16, 2022 in Council Room, 125 South Walnut Street, Slatington, PA 18080. The meeting was called to order by President Bartholomew at 6:30 PM with the following in attendance: PRESENT ABSENT OTHERS PRESENT VISITORS Thomas Bartholomew Mayor Schoch Austin Berger Ronald Kratz Daniel Stevens Kevin Steckel Zachari Halkias PUBLIC COMMENT: None A. FINANCE/PLANNINGIZONING Ronald Kratz - Chairman; Members: Kevin Steckel, Zachari Halkias 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. Councilor Kratz provided a copy of a reference from a higher-ranking person at the post office. Councilor Kratz feels this position of part time code enforcement officer is needed and would like to begin the process again. Councilor Kratz would like this placed on the next regular council agenda for a vote, after Manager Stevens checks job history. b. Councilor Kratz discussed a commemorative plaque for Chief Rachman and Det. Wagner for 25- and 15-years' service, respectively. Manager Stevens has contacted contractors. Councilor Kratz would like this placed on the next regular council agenda. C. Moratorium on the conversion of single-family dwellings to multi-family dwellings. Councilor Kratz had spoken to Attorney Healy and was informed that this could be done based on the square footage allocation. Councilor Kratz would like this placed on the next regular agenda to authorize Attorney Lisa Young to provide an opinion. d. Permits for each car above 2 cars per household. Councilor Kratz had spoken to Attorney Healy and was informed this could be done. Manager Stevens suggested this be advertised for public comment, as it may be very controversial. Councilor Kratz would like this placed on the next regular agenda to authorize Attorney Lisa Young to provide an opinion. There were no questions from the committee members; the Finance Committee Meeting was adjourned. 1 I B. PUBLIC SAFETY Kevin Steckel - Chairman; Members: Ronald Kratz, Zachari Halkias 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. The committee discussed the need for additional cameras at the police station, and reviewed a quote from Nicholson Security, LLC to install 2 new cameras for $611.96 at the police station. Councilor Steckel would like this placed on the next regular council agenda for approval. b. Update on possible grant for fire company. Manager Stevens informed the committee that he is waiting for an estimate from Krom er Plumbing concerning the furnace. C. Update on carpet and floor replacement in police station. Manager Stevens informed the committee that he is waiting to hear back from contractors. There were no questions from the committee members; the Public Safety Committee meeting was adjourned. C. HUMAN/COMMUNITY SERVICES Zachari Halkias - Chairman; Members: Kevin Steckel, Ronald Kratz 1. Committee Member discussion on listed topics: a. The committee discussed a verbal request from Denise Martinez to use Victory Park pavilion (for free) on Saturday, September 17, 2022, from 12:00- 3:00 PM for 3 weddings for couples in need. Councilor Halkias would like this placed on the next regular council agenda for approval. There were no questions from the committee members; the Fuman/Community Services Committee meeting was adjourned. D. INFORMATIONAL ITEMS: Manager Stevens informed the committee that the security camera at Victory Park has been fixed. E.
